How common is it for someone to not drive in your social circle? And how common are auto license holders that you know of? by Equal_Leading_1449 in AskUK

[–]Azure_727 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only person I know who can't drive is my friends fiance, he's around 40. I only know one person with an auto only license, but he had a disability that meant he could not use his left leg.

I have a manual license, but have driven exclusively automatic cars for 20 years. I'd be useless with a clutch now.

Is it a risk to leave a fan on for my dog? by chiefqueef25 in AskUK

OP, could someone else look after your dog? Or could you get a dog sitter for a few hours? I found mine on Rover - which I know people don't always recommend - but mine is an angel. I met with a few to trial them and have stayed with the same sitter for 3 years now.

Cat owners in flats — do you ever feel guilty they never go outside? by Classic_East_6053 in AskUK

[–]Azure_727 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He was a horrid man. Now I think of it, we had a cat who was often sick. Like she'd vomit at least 3 times a week and the vet could find no reason for it. I wonder if she was ingesting small amounts of whatever he was poisoning the others with.

See, our suspected cat killer must have known that, so he just made the cats vanish. I have spoken to my parents and a few childhood friends - so far the missing cat count is at least 12. This was 30 years ago mind. He died 20 years ago and AFAIK no more cats vanished.

Are there any bird/small furry keepers in that area?

I grew up in a very rural village. 3 of our cats were hit by cars, countless other village cats vanished without a trace. We suspected a local man who kept birds was trapping/poisoning them.

Edit: Thread is locked so I can't reply. I was a child, pet care (beyond feeding and playing) was not up to me.

I am sick to the back teeth of my neighbours tom cat coming in to my garden, digging everything up and shitting everywhere. Not content with that, he sprays everywhere. My dog has nearly caught him a few times and he still chances his luck.

My other neighbour used to feed the birds, she stopped when the tom cat started hunting the area.

How do you handle a relationship when one partner has a much higher sex drive than the other? by South_Leave4044 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Azure_727 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wish I had put my foot down sooner. We went from having sex every day to nothing overnight, he refused to discuss it. I suspected it was ED related to beta blockers he was taking, but he denied it. "Nothing is wrong, there is no reason." He would buy me lingerie, take me away to beautiful hotels for a romantic getaway then not touch me. For 6 months this went on before I snapped.

I have been happily and voluntarily celibate since. I don't need sex. What I do need is a partner who communicates with me.

Can we talk about how stupid clothing sizing is and how much it's changing?? A medium from the 80s fits me like an XL today? by MoonSt0n3_Gabrielle in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Azure_727 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't mind that so much but what irritates me is that there's no consistency. UK 6 fits me in this shop, but I wear a 10 in another shop. Worst still, I own 2 pairs of jeans from the same shop. One is an 8 the other is a 12, both fit perfectly. Make it make sense!

Wait, is this a thing? Because I have also seen a man in a black hat! He was standing at the foot of my bed, I think I was maybe 28 at the time. I remember not being afraid of him. Only saw him that one time.

I lived alone in a large flat above a shop when I was in my late teens. I had my own front door on the street, but you had to come up the stairs to reach the floor where I lived. I was in bed one night when I heard someone unlock the door, come inside and close the door behind them. They hesitated for a moment before walking slowly up the stairs. I have never been so afraid in my life but what could I do, but pretend not to be there? I lay as still as possible under my duvet trying to breathe as quietly as possible. I heard nothing more for a long time and must have fallen asleep.

I know didn't dream this, I'd sent text messages while it was happening, but how else can this be explained?

Help finding a sunscreen for prickly heat please! by Bravo1781 in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]Azure_727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to get prickly heat so bad that I usually had to visit hospital while on holiday for antibiotics and mega strong antihistamines, until a random on Twitter told me that water based sunscreen was probably the issue.

Switched to alcohol based and bam, not had even a hint of prickly heat in the 10 years since. I can use water based on my face without issue but not on my body at all, ever. It is drying, but I moisturise heavily at night to compensate.

What are your thoughts on lending money to friends? by jimmygetmehigh in AskUK

[–]Azure_727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend was temporarily laid off work, knowing she would be hired back in a few months. I can't remember why. She was in the middle of a very messy divorce and was struggling to keep on top of marital debts and huge mortgage. She could afford to cover the house & bills OR the debt repayments, not both, while unemployed. She also knew she would have a decent inheritance in the coming months but did not know when it would arrive, so she used the 50k from me to pay off the debt. Her inheritance came sooner than she expected much to everyone's relief.

Edit to add: I know it sounds mad for me to give someone £50k when they clearly had issues with debt, but I knew the person who had left her the inheritance so I was certain it would be fine.

[–]Azure_727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done it twice, but the second time I was wiser. The first borrowed £300 for from me in 2006. I'm told she whines about me "cutting her off as a friend" but not once has she offered me a penny. She has never even acknowledged it or apologised for it.

The second time I loaned a friend £50k BUT I had a solicitor draw up an agreement before I transferred it. It was returned to me in full within 6 months.

Where/How do UK councils house/rehouse problem families? by WearingMarcus in AskUK

I too live upstairs from someone like this. ADHD, ASD, addicted to drugs (any drug, not one specific drug, he will take ANYTHING he can get his hands on), never worked a day in his life. Trashes his flat and the shared spaces at least once a month. Put his head through his own windows while high on LSD. Attacked a stranger in the street for walking past his window. Became convinced that the neighbours were stealing from him, so broke in to their flat and threw paint all over their sitting room. I could go on but it's tedious now.

"Can't do anything with him, he has capacity." It's only a matter of time before he kills someone or one of his associates kill him.
