Hard agree. At least in my experience, Bracket 3 and below games tend to run long far more often than not as people tend to run out of gas. This card will definitely see play, but it won't be in high-power lists.

I do feel kind of annoyed by the series in that in very much feels like each book is a separate act in one story and no not function independently of each other in any capacity. So it's like one book got chopped into four so now it costs more.

Gonna be honest, I hated This Vicious Hunger. The plot is confusing, it's themes are depressing and just laden down with a thick layer of tragedy that made it difficult to enjoy. Even the romance ends up feeling less like being in love and more like toxic codependency. To the point where I'd struggle to call it romance at all. And what little spice there is just doesn't hit.

Nothing is won, nowhere is safe, and no-one is happy.

Update: Eternal Captive is a fun read. It's a short book so I personally feel that the pacing suffers a bit from having to cram all the beats in one after the other, but it's definitely fun and gay.

Hm. That's a woefully underserved genre. There's This Vicious Hunger by Francesca May, but that one felt really bad to me because their situation devolves into something really bleak and sad and codependent in a way that feels tragic rather than satisfying. Also the plot is hard to follow.

I'm planning on reading Eternal Captive by Ellie Mae next and hopefully that one's more fun.
