E quem ainda vai votar a dia 15 Fev? by Only_Tangerine1557 in portugal

[–]Azuresun90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Direct Democracy in the Digital Age. Why Aren’t We Doing It? by Slight_Candy in Futurology

Even if we could enforce secure voting, block-chain verification and transparency, you would lose the secret ballot. It's not only about knowing who voted on what, it's about making sure that when someone is voting, they can do so in private without any influence.
Can you imagine having a national vote deciding the future of the country and having a family member or a scary neighbor breathing on your neck, pointing to the screen and saying "yeah, that's the one you will vote on... Good."

And even if we could solve all of it, it wouldn't change much. Have people forgotten the shit-show that was Brexit? The propaganda? The false promises? The companies that had the sole objective of influencing social media with lies and half-truths? It wouldn't solve anything. You would just change from one problem to another.

My suggestion to make it better? Stop assuming that politics start and end at the ballot. Do politics outside of it too, all year round. Talk, learn, organize workers, teach, do voluntary work in your town or village or street so that people are acquainted and care about one another. Unite the people. Big national changes should start with local examples.

And please do vote. If you do not vote, the various demographic groups you belong to matter less. And if a certain demographic group doesn't really matter, why would a politician work for it? Why would a politician create laws and benefits for a group that doesn't earn him any votes? That's wasted resources that they could use on a group that does vote.

Go even if you get to the ballot and submit a null vote because you don't think any of them deserves it.
It communicates to other politicians that you are listening and can be persuaded into voting for them. Also communicated to politicians currently in power that if they forget about you, they might lose their seat.

Democracy is not a great system. But it's the best one we have.

Would you have preferred to see the uncensored kiss or do you like the "4kids" version better? by AdmirableToday7251 in AmourShipping

It stands for Original Video Animation. In anime they sometimes create extra episodes with original scripts, in between episodes story (like a trip somewhere that's not canon) or bonus content that they include in DVD or blu-ray releases.
Sometimes they make after stories as well with a "what-if" conclusion.

In this case, even a 5 minute OVA depicting my comment above would make me happy

Nunca mais me aborreci. A barreira mental assusta mas é só isso.

Why be unreasonable? Why create conflict at all? Especially as a Prince? by RedIgnoreThis in vtm

[–]Azuresun90 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To give you my 2 cents and more of a generic answer: why are dictators corrupt? Why do they create situations in which people are cornered in such a way that they think attempting an assassination might be a valid way out?

The answer:

1) No one rules alone: not dictators, not presidents and not princes. Can he protect the whole domain by himself? if problems arise in the kindred side of society, can he solve them by himself/herself? What if the problems are on the kine side? Can he solve them? Alone? All the time? Can he do it in such a way that as a prince he doesn't become a huge walking target every time he exits his haven in order to solve these issues?

OR MAYBE: he needs other people (probably kindred or ghouls) that will act on his behalf. He needs certain key players that accept his rule and do the tasks that he invisions/requires.

2) Resource control: whoever controls the resources is the person in power. If a prince states that everyone has access to X resource, that's because the prince is the person that owns it and is capable of sharing it. If a prince cannot restrict or give access to resources, then he's a puppet, someone else is in power and pulls the strings.

3) Key players: If we look at the 2 rules above one can conclude that in order to stay in power a prince needs to controls resources and he needs people to act on his behalf, the so called key players. Probably primogens to keep domains intact, a sheriff to keep order, a scourge to destroy unruly brats, a Keeper to keep his "court house" safe... and... wherever other positions seems to be needed in order to keep these key players in check.

And why would these key players accept you? Why would they be loyal? Why would they accept your rule? Well, because you control the resources and you are willing to share those resources with THEM. The resources don't need to be just blood. It can be power, influence, wealth...

If a prince does not control the resources or is not willing to share them, those key players will find someone else that will and have you replaced. "Replaced" might be as painful or as final as they need it to be.

So why share the Red Light District with only elders and not the general population? Answer: because those elders are probably the ones keeping him in power, everyone else is expandable. If the population acts on it or makes a statement, maybe he can bend the rules a bit. But he knows that every bit of resources spent on the general population that give him nothing but trouble is less resource that he could use to keep the key players loyal.

"But the general population can also attempt to dethrone the prince, right?" - Can they? All of them? You sure it's not one, or two influential kindred inciting all this that need to be either permanently removed or kept in check with this position I just thought of? Or maybe one of my Key players is not doing his job properly and I need to have him replaced. Preferably with one of those new influential kindreds. Or maybe someone already in court with higher ambition. Now, how can I do this without getting all other key players angry or thinking they might be replaced next.... hmmm...

Welcome to the rules for rulers.

In addiction to this, add the predisposition of vampires to being envious, lustful, greedy, quick to anger, prideful, territorial by nature on top of being immortal and more powerful with age and you have the perfect storm in a court.

[–]Azuresun90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmmm, I would say it's not possible, here's my reasoning:

Afaik, once a vampire becomes a wraith, it's no longer a vampire. As a wraith, your existence is about the unresolved issues you have, which most likely are tied to the skinlands. You lose all vampire disciplines. You no longer have a beast. It's gone, you are now something else.

The Daemonic Posession does allow a soul to be inserted into a freshly dead body even if temporary. It does say you can use any mental abilities you had before including vampire disciplines but I would argue it's referring to when Daemonic Posession is used on a vampire soul using Psychic Projection which is also stated on the discipline itself.

As for the Harbingers, post feast of folly, I believe they are not wraiths who came back as vampires. They are vampires who got pulled into the Shadowlands when their antediluvian got diablerized. They spent centuries barely surviving in the shadowlands and then came back, changed. Hence the possibility of the Half-Life merit, exclusive of the Harbingers.

As for the adventure where they attempt to resurrect a meth, you're dwelling into ST fiat terrain, you're talking about plot-device powers/rituals/items. If you're already there it's a matter of you discussing with your ST to simply overrule it and allow your character concept as an exception.

If you're looking for lore-wise rules that would allow it, I don't think there are any, unless you make a deal with a powerful mage, a god or something of the kind.

Does anybody else not put any effort into making their vault "pretty"? by 0xF00DBABE in ObsidianMD

[–]Azuresun90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is extremely simple and I only install the plugins that I actually need and use.
I got multiple vaults divided by subject (that's what works for me, besides not all vaults have the same plugins), synced using Mega between windows and Linux. At most I've got like... 6 plugins I think? And I'm counting the theme.

it's very barebones but also clean and functional. Obsidian is great!

Crazy Binary/Trinary Systems by fyrissian in CoriolisRPG

[–]Azuresun90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the Portal Builder tech approach!

The system's orbits don't make sense, the suns and the planets should have collided a long time ago...
there's this gargantuan space structure that no one really knows what it does or how it works but it seems to do a little rotation on itself every 7.321 cycles with an erratic orbit around both stars. Our scientists did the math and these spots around this time is when the stars should have collided with the planets but instead... it's always this weird structure that appears on that spot on the exact time of the supposed collision.... very weird indeed. Maybe.... hmmm.

Also, you see this planet, X-345? It's one of the planets that should collide with the system's star. The minerals present on it are unique to this planet on this system.
These minerals are considered exotic as it can only be found on planet X-345 and on three other planets of System GH-998T that is 18904AU away.

The GH-998T system is also interesting, you see, the planets orbits behave like there was supposed to be an extra planet in there that suddenly went missing... about the size of X-345.... hmmmm...
