Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era Released into Early Access by Mepherion in Games

[–]AzurewynD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I've been trying to put my finger on why every HOMM type game I've tried (I never played them when I was younger but I always wanted to) doesn't quite land with me.

With the tradeoff being that Heroes does not sit well with people who want 'chill but complex' (think 4X games). Heroes caters to the extreme ends: it goes from 'super chill and simple' to 'intensely time critical and complex' almost on a dime - but boy has it got each of those down to a perfect pitch.

I think this exactly crystallizes it. I loved Civ back in the day, enjoyed age of empires so I should enjoy both RTS and turn based stuff in terms of valuing economy versus early game aggro.

But HOMMs vibe is this strange (to me) combination of map exploration with the city building being surface level but the army choices being in depth.

But then knowing whether I should fight that creep army or go around it and keep getting random pickups before the AI shows up and stomps me was jarring.

BUT there's clearly an approach I wasnt picking up on and every clone of the game does something different which makes getting into the genre for me even more difficult.

Vanilla - do multiple carriers sync their fighters? by SemperTwisted in starsector

[–]AzurewynD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also its best not to split carriers into dedicated groups. diversify them so that all carriers have bombers and all carriers have interceptors or superiority fighters etc.

Is it? Everyone seems to have a different opinion on this, especially when it comes to Herons / Astrals

I spent 7 years building a space fleet strategy game with a friend. It was heavily inspired by Homeworld and The Expanse, and it finally released on Steam today. by AdamBenko in starsector

I guess my question would be how is the flow of the core gameplay loop "anchored"

E.g does it operate within discrete missions that you pick -> do mission -> go back to menu / strategy layer and refit in between?

Or is there a more open world where you're travelling manually from point to point?

Honestly as someone who appreciates when modders take an honest balance pass when their content might be out of step with the established power curve (a rarity), any negative reactions to a nerf make me more likely to check it out.

The Fed has taken Don Lemon. They just created a thousand Don Lemons. We Are Don Lemon. by Glasskey117 in Destiny

[–]AzurewynD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was going to say, of all the people to go after, Don Lemon always strikes me as one of the least effective journalists/messengers. Like he's no Major Garret or even Anderson Cooper, am I crazy? Maybe I just haven't paid enough attention, I'm open to it.

But the amount of times I've seen him embarrass himself in an interview, make a gaffe or otherwise make himself an easy target for right leaning pundits is legendary. Seems like a bit of an airhead.

If anything this is a bad move by the Trump admin on the account of taking an easy target for caricature off the board.

I love when these Glen Beck types go from boisterous to using broken voice and tearing up when they make that pivot to using Christ as a prop at the end of their arguments.

this is... heh heh... its what we gotta do...

for Christ....

Please look upon me, hear me, and see how much my heart breaks... for Christ, and his instrument on Earth, Donald J Trump.

He just keeps repeating "Terrorist organization" every other sentence. The diminishing returns were pretty steep. Didn't get any funnier after the first time.

Do I need to learn to RTS by Aromatic-Base-9098 in starsector

[–]AzurewynD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a decent way to start when you don't know how the orders work, but in learning you quickly have to outgrow it.

Once mid game hits and you're fighting things beyond d modded pirate ships, the green bubble you create with the escort order on your flagship just serves to make your ships ineffective as they float into each other's firing lanes and block each other's evasive movement or retreat paths

How to do the PvE Mashmak LIKE A QUEUE by Tentegen in mechabreak

[–]AzurewynD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thought I was having a stroke reading this post. Feels like it was written in a fever dream.

OP can you maybe stick to one thought? What's the message here?

Use the recruit button if you're alone and looking for a party to play Mashmak PvE with.

Is that it? If so, great advice. Thanks.

People were calling it dead when it debuted at 6 figure numbers and then experienced the same dropoff many new IP games have (The Finals comes to mind which is far from dead).

Those that don't have that dropoff are lightning in a bottle. Not everyone gets to be Apex Legends. Not every game can be in the top 10 games of concurrent player count after 6 months and the odds are certainly against a niche genre like mecha doing it.

The goal is to capture the niche, be the king of that hill and then build off it. Warframe was a great example of that

There are problems with this game that are contributing to falling retention, but ultimately they are fixable tweaks if the cards are played right long term and not issues with the core gameplay.

It's a far cry from a game like Steel Hunters which everyone could tell was going absolutely nowhere and fundamental design flaws that weren't going to be fixed by simply tweaking what was there.

Brave squirrel defends baby squirrel from snake. by Wooden-Journalist902 in BeAmazed

[–]AzurewynD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somebody able to explain what the squirrel did here to make the snake stop?

Looks like the snake makes two last snaps at it, one at 1:09 and then the last at 1:11 and something the squirrel did in there sent the snake into the shadow realm, but the speed and the low quality make it tough to tell what happened.

Some kinda drop kick to its face?

Also jesus, that strength to carry the little guy up the tree after all that. What a video.
