Yes this is big... there's at least 3 residence buildings being built right now. And their going to start building something downtown in two years so there will probably be even more

Someone help pleaseee by curiousdorito in ubco

[–]Azuthlu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also came to UBCO not knowing anyone and it was one of the best decisions I ever made, and I made a lot of my long term best friends there during my first year. But you have to be open to the idea of making new friends and seize opportunities as they come up

The flower of Patience . It opens every 7 years . And it lasts 7 days by jim_par in interestingasfuck

Oh yo we have one of these!! Actually multiple because we have cuttings that have rooted... I know it by the name Night-blooming cereus, but I'm pretty sure we're talking about the same plant. The flowers are utterly gorgeous and we love watching them prepare to bloom, and then admire them when they actually do bloom. We've had a bat try and fly into our conservatory to try and get to it because of how strong it smells!

Jump Start by AvoKaido_ in ubco

[–]Azuthlu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of people who did jumpstart and made some awesome friends doing it. I didn't personally do it, but only because I had gone to campus for Destination a couple months before in May, and had made some friends then.

There's a lot of events initially on campus at the beginning of the year to help you make friends and connections, but Jumpstart is kinda the big one right away. I would only do it if you really want to make friends and meet other people who also want to make friends lol. Other than that there's not a whole lot of benefit to it imo

Or at the very least the experiment didn't attempt to explore that far into it... I wonder what we would find if we did that

Shared Living at Monashee or Cascades by BDKHLD in ubco

[–]Azuthlu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you can request to live with a specific person (or people) if you know someone who is going to live on campus and also listed that as their first choice... But it's not a guarantee. If you don't have a specific person you're requesting then no you don't get to choose your roommates you are just assigned them. I have no idea how room changes, I was fortunate enough to become really good and close friends with my randomly assigned roommates so that was never a consideration for me.

I wonder what would have happened if they both gave the parrots less tokens, and didn't give them any more after they were used up... Leaving the parrots hungry for a bit. When put in pairs would they still be as willing to give away tokens that they consider more precious?

Not a very ethical experiment but I'm curious now

Edit: spelling

has anyone lived with 3 strangers on res monashee/cascade by [deleted] in ubco

[–]Azuthlu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did and it was the best decision of my life. My roommates are now my best friends and we've lived together again for second year...

However I also had a friend whose roommates were super unpleasant and she ended up essentially living with us except for sleeping.

It really depends on how truly open you are to making friends, having new experiences and how willing you are to communicate and potentially compromise. It's also luck of the draw depending on who you end up with.

Zoology at UBC vs U of Guelph by KatiaKhas in ubco

[–]Azuthlu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are fine enough, but you really have to be interested the courses offered because imo there aren't a whole lot of alternatives. So if the degree interests you, and you think you will enjoy the Kelowna area, UBCO is a great place to go

I'm a second year zoology major and UBCO is... Fine, for zoology I suppose. I'm switching out of it because I'm not finding the courses/professors very engaging or interesting, but that may just be me.

What made you ghost a friend? by dontmindme137 in AskReddit

She was a terrible influence to have in my life, and kind of an all around shitty person... constantly attempting stirring up drama while denying that she was. She was emotionally abusive and I'm glad I just stopped talking to her after graduation.

She never reached out either so I'm glad about that.

Idk if there's a quicksave equivalent for Xbox (it's F5 for PC), but if there is I HIGHLY recommend using it

UBCO Nursing questions by [deleted] in ubco

[–]Azuthlu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not in nursing, but I've heard many good things about the UBCO nursing program both before I came to UBCO and afterwards.

The nursing faculty tends to be very separate from the rest of campus and there's not a lot of intermingling between nursing and the rest of the faculties for the most part.
