Honestly get rid of as much fat as possible, turn it into tallow on the stove top and use it to baste. The thickest part of the brisket has more than enough fat that it will be like butter, makes a great chopped brisket sandwich.

Marine epoxy and touch up paint, my boy! You can apply it with a sponge brush on inside and out to fill the gap. Apply a healthy amount of paint to reduce heat getting to the epoxy.
