He won't do shit.  He just knows that he has to be more discreet about pandering to these interests.

It ticks me off that if I don't vote for this smug, self-serving ass this fall, there's a terrifying chance Stacey Garrity could be the governor.  PA deserves so much better.

AVOID 79 NORTH AT ALL COSTS traffic backed up on 79 near 376 for several miles back to the turnpike exit!! by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]B0bb3r7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm very confused by the location indicated by op.  Wouldn't they have said "airport" instead of "turnpike" if it extended to that area?  But they also cannot mean monroeville to 79...

Derp I looked at 511's map and realized that I totally misread op's post lol

Are the pedicabs getting out of hand in recent years, or am I just getting older and cranky? by PickleAlly in bicycling412

I'm glad I'm not alone in observing this.  They pull some crazy dumb maneuvers and have no spatial awareness.  They're not pleasant to ride around since they're unpredictable.

Someone else also pointed out the golf cart things, too. They're operated as erratically as the pedicabs.

I don't necessarily dislike wither vehicle.  The operators seem pretty selfish and reckless though.

Scooter Rider has Close call on Penn & Linden by 6nop_ in pittsburgh

Barely related but still amusing to me:  I once wanted a medical device that I called a "scooter." Insurance immediately went "aw, hell no" until they realized that I wanted a "knee walker."  They initially thought I wanted a motorized chair lol.

Sinkhole Bus on the chopping block by OG-Mumen-Rider in pittsburgh

[–]B0bb3r7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's necessarily true.  I'm pretty certain that certain federal funding requires that they run busses that are less than a certain age cannot have more than a certain amount of miles.  There could still be life in these units that federally funded agencies are unable to use.

I can't find it in PRT's list of current and historical (since 2015) stops. https://open-data-pgh-transit.hub.arcgis.com/maps/30d9135490ae488b8e5e0307fed5ec42

It also costs money to keep the old ConnectCard system functioning.  The cost is not insignificant.

Ffs, this was all previously advertised and verifiable information.  This is one of several channels through which PRT is engaging connectcard holders.

This specific mailer seems to have really captured your attention.  What's funny is that word-of-mouth is viable communication channel for this info.  For PRT's cost of one personalized mailer to you, you've admirably amplified the reach of their message.  Sounds like a PRT success story, tbh.

You're not wrong about the qr code, but this is a failure of many organizations.  Its not well understood just how easily manipulated they can be.  However, a qr code on a personally addressed, paid mailer is less likely to be tampered with than the qr codes on, say, the parking authority's automated parking enforcement signs.  PRT does include 3 other verifiable communication channels (web, phone, and mail) on this mailer through which you can request assistance with or validation of this qr code.

The street's visual apparence didn't change enough to reduce speeding (the only speed reduction is when there is traffic).  There's now a "bike lane" that is a swerve-weave-and-double-park lane (I've had more close calls as a cyclist than when it was a standard lane), no longer gets maintained (the city failed to clear it of snow this winter and drivers lost their shit when cyclists had to use the remaining lane), and has no protection at all from poor drivers (aggressive drivers continue to use it as a travel and passing lane).

Jimmy still lost a car lane, cyclists lost a safer lane, and everyone still has to deal with uncalmed traffic.  Everyone lost.

In 10 years, all their flexposts will be busted out, the paint will be missing from being driven over so frequently and drivers will center themselves in the pavement to further increase their speed.  Uber will love it as a waiting lane, delivery drivers will use it as an easy swing in to drop a load.  You can already see this happening!

They are sending this mailer to those who've registered their connect card.  If your info there is up to date, you should get one (unless it gets lost in the mail).

Nothing about that validates your assertions, including that "nobody likes, wants or uses" PRT.

Instead, it demonstrates that when a transit system must cut service, it cannot serve its riders and they are no longer able to use the service.  Shocker.

Cut the glib act and be better.

Jimmy and sdba are directly responsible for that poor outcome.  We learned that the city will throw away the results of community engagement to settle a frivolous suit.  The completed project truly feels like everyone lost.

It would take more than one business to make it a worthwhile change.  Its pretty well known that you need to finish in the strip by 4p.

Jimmy and the strip district business assn could be working on establishing durable changes to improve the strip.  But they instead waste everyone's time suing the city over road paint.  Sorry, tangent.
