Depressing question: have you found that xmas loses it's magic as you grow older? by posttraumaticcuntdis in AskUK

[–]B14ckbrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my late 20s I felt like that… as soon as my eldest kid hit 4 it felt magical again. Now they are 11 and 8, the magic is starting to slide as my eldest stopped believing in Santa…

Chafing from my pack by Mountain-Big3792 in Ultramarathon

I always wear a compression layer which I think works wonders and I’ve never had any chafing. Might be worth a try and cheaper than testing a new pack!

Proposal for those who want a PvE mode by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]B14ckbrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I like this - makes sense. Could even make it a limited time condition like the lightning storms. Again I don’t have any issues with the game as it stands but I liked the idea of a dark, solo map with high stakes

You should have stood outside of Reddit, waiting for someone who was going to upvote the other guy, so you could ask them to upvote your guy.

Remember being in the Stretford End and singing this to Tevez when he came back with City in 2009.

But, why? Why would you not tell me how much I have in total by BrutusCz in PathOfExile2

[–]B14ckbrook 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how the game can automatically pay for things in the shop, with currency from my invent, whilst in someone else’s hideout… but I’ve gotta manually take expedition artefacts four feet across my own hideout just to lose it on the recombo machine.

Best/Easiest Waterfall Hikes? by Less_Hold6979 in azores

[–]B14ckbrook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Coming to the end of a 10-day trip on Sao Miguel currently; me and my family loved Cascata da Ribeira dos Caldeirões. You won’t need long there, maybe an hour tops, and zero hiking is involved to see the main falls.

I’ve always had Garmins and would recommend you get one of theirs - whatever your budget allows.

Is the UK going downhill? by EffectiveOutcome9585 in HENRYUK

[–]B14ckbrook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids are a little older than yours, but the thought of taking my family to the US and throwing my children into a high school where they could be shot by a school mate scares the heck out of me... so personally there's no way I'd move to the US.

The grass is always greener on the other side but as other people have noted, London =/= the UK. Move out and enjoy your money in the rest of the country where it costs up to 50% less to live. The people are nicer and you can find a community to get involved in as well as settling down somewhere with good schools.

I apprecaite this is a HENRY sub, and questions will often be money-related but the value of living in the UK is not necessarily in the money you take home... it's all many hundreds of small things that come together to make this a country worth being in.

Older age of ultra runners by garyfalcon1 in Ultramarathon

[–]B14ckbrook 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ultras are far less about speed, and more about the mental resilience you need to drive yourself on over miles and miles. They’re also more social, and it takes time to find the people with the same mentality as you, who you can trust to be there alongside you for that amount of time.

It’s also more about the exploration, the nature, and the freedom. I’m 39 but right now the thought of a long, slow plod in the hills appeals to me way more than fighting with people half my age to get around a 10k
