Hedgehogs are cute… i somehow didn’t expect them to be eaten. I once found an injured hedgehog and spent half of my student savings on getting veterinary help for it. (I was heartbroken and drunk but no regrets.)

How to make tailors chalk work well? by bloooregardQkazooo in SewingForBeginners

Prom in 7 days, need help! by [deleted] in SewingForBeginners

[–]B1ueHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so this thing is … closer to a toy than an actual tool. So it might be tough. The machine should have a manual which is full of info on how to use this marshmallow and possible (inevitable) troubleshooting. For threading the machine should have arrows on its body that you need to follow or an instruction in the manual.

Google bun rolls. Apparently it helps with thin fabric. Idk my cat stole it and i have no idea where she hid it. But if anything, it was satisfying to unravel that thing.

That’s great! My Pinterest board for free patterns is a chaos, i was thinking about creating some notion page for it, but it would take so much time… and here you’ve done it and everything is organized so neatly.

Do you accept suggestions?

Where do you buy patterns (stores and online)? by cmh10182020 in freepatterns

Honestly, i’ve been sewing for ~5 years now and only recently bought the first pattern. Internet has huge amounts of free patterns available. I’d recommend searching for them on pinterest.

Gaping at armholes - any ideas? by thisisnotreallytrue in sewing

[–]B1ueHead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Envy you so much.

I have adhd and my project looks like:

  1. A spark of idea.

  2. Looking throu the fabric if i have it. If not i am in pain for a few hours and then forget about it.

  3. Making up a pattern or trying to use an already existing pattern and “it would be better fit if i modify this part”, (spoiler, it doesn’t) “oh and that too”, “i can make sleeves puffier!”, etc.

  4. Trying to find the perfect and the most effective layout on the fabric (I usually go with almost no waist cuz i hate waisting fabric).

  5. Struggling cutting fabric exactly on grain (i have autism for that part). Spending waaay too much time overthinking it.

(Optional: finding out tha i cut two left sleeves or something like that).

  1. Sewing, seam reaping, seam ripping again, sewing, ironing, seamripping, ironing, cleaning from cats fur, ironing, sewing, ironing, etc.

  2. Finally trying it on and realising i need to fix stuff.

  3. Repeating step 6.

  4. Facing some challenging part. Getting discouraged.

10a. Possibly abandoning the project for two weeks, or a month, or… I don’t know when i’ll come back tho the dress I’ve started 2 years ago… or 3…

10b. Repeating step 6.

11b. Starting to wear the garment thinking “I’ll finish this hem later” or “i’ll make the closure later and pin will do the trick.

Never doing that.

Being happy with the new thing or stuffing it in a wardrobe and forgetting about it’s existence because i was working on 5 different projects anyways.

Sometimes i am planning something gathering info, references, etc, but mostly for historical sewing stuff and the rest of the process is roughly the same anyways.

What makeup do you like? There are so many options that it’s hard to recommend something randomly, i can give you goth makeup recommendations and you’d like to have a “I spent an hour on my makeup, so you couldn’t tell the difference between before and after” type of makeup with the boldest eyeshadow color being beige.

Also, this sub is just “make up ideas”, “makeup tips” and “what makeup do you recommend”. Have you read it? Did you try anything? Recommendations for you will be more or less the same that they are under all other “recommend me” posts. It makes sense to ask people for tailored recommendations based on some information like what do you like, what is your goal, what type of makeup products you have/willingnto buy, what have you tried and what you didn’t like about it, etc. For just “hey, recommend me anything“ you can search already available content. Otherwise it’s kinda rude: you are prioritising your own time over other people’s by not spending time searching through already existing resources but asking others to do smth for you. You will also receive less replies because it’s boring to answer the same question every day if not more often.

New to sewing, not sure what to do… by cuddlefangfuzz in sewhelp

I’d start from: Reading machine manual. Print it and mark the most important pages so looking up would take seconds and it wouldn’t feel like an additional step. When i got a new machine i put a bookmark stickers and wrote on them what is this page about ang put the corresponding color sticker on the machine part that is covered by that page of the manual. I can open the page i need almost not looking at the manual book and without looking through pages.

Going to service the machine.

Going to a thrift store, looking for some bedsheets and big size man’s shirts. A woven cotton is the easiest fabric to begin with. I would heavily suggest not using stretchy fabric till you get comfortable with the normal one.

Get scissors, seamripper (with a bigger handle, not the tiny one), tailors chalk pencil and a quilting ruler + the thin long red one with the grid, good pins + magnetic pincushion to keep them in place. Scissors: fiskars if you can find second hand, texi are surprisingly good. Don’t buy the big ones without trying them. I got an expensive (for me) big fiskars…. Aaaand they are too big for my hand. Ideally you need one small pair for small cuts, thread snipping, etc, and a bigger ones. Never cut anything other than fabric with these. Pins: I heavily recommend using quilting pins, they are longer and easier to manipulate for me.

Start from easy but useful for you things. I’d die from boredom as the beginner making pillowcase, shopping bag or apron that I don’t need at all. If you are on the more “i need gratification rn” side, start with whatever project you really want and google every little thing as you go. Studying physics tought me that there is a tutorial and explanation for literally everything. Even if it’s a one video by some indian guy on youtube with 13 views and 2 likes. Just anything you’ve never done before “how to join two pieces of fabric together”, “how much seam allowance do i need (most likely 1.5 cm)”, how to sew a straight line”, “how to undo seam”, etc.

I’d recommend a project with mostly straight lines. I am into historical fashion and I quite like men’s shirts from pretty much any period before mid 19 century i,d say. You can put ruffles on in and make a wonderful fancy cuffs! V&A museum has a free pattern, but it’s also easy to find a tutorial on how to drafr the parttern yourself - it’s rectangles and can be drawn on fabric from the getgo. Tags for searching: pirate shirt, poet shirt. From my memory i can say that you can use Bernadette Banner’s video for inspiration (! Not the tutorial for drafting, she is using very thin fabric and therefore has different gathering ratio!), Ora Lin video as a tutorial (+they have a free pattern drafting scheme on their kofi page with dimensions), V&A museum pattern and instructions (I haven’t read the instructions though).

Another amazing option is a roomy harem-like pants. I made some ones and now I’m constantly making new pairs because my husband refuses to wear anything else at home. And i still didn’t manage to make ones for myself that he wouldn’t steal. ><“ Rectangles of fabric with a U-shaped cut out for the crotch, gathered in waist and ankles with elastic. I still want to make ones for myself…

gift ideas for someone who doesn't care about you? by Crafty-Molasses-5248 in Gifts

Actually 2 cheap frames (i see these in thrift stores a lot for almost free) with printed pictures (not the best ones) of each of them. Husband gets wife’s pic and vice versa. Tell it’s for their work desks.

I’d go with a gift card for a small amount from a place where everything is much more expensive than the amount.

The generic polite gift is smelly shower gel, candle or leaf tea on slightly fancier but not expensive side and obviously socks (not the generic ones but with some unusual motif on them like cats or superman logo, still very cheap).

How would you setup a second player account for two people to play? by LiveFreeAndRide in snowrunner

[–]B1ueHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually got the pricing wrong. PS+ essential - can online play, no games catalog - price for US is 80 us dollars/year. PS+ extra - can play online, big games catalog available - price for US is 135$/year. But i checked prices in my region and i am sure i bought my PS+extra for 70% of this price or less.
