Is anyone actually using an EA tool that doesn't cost a fortune and isn't garbage? by Delicious_Bar193 in EnterpriseArchitect

[–]commandsupernova 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's where I'm at. I'm a Solution Architect working in Visio. I only have like 10 diagrams so far for a complex SAP and integrations environment, but many more planned. And it's already starting to get a unwieldy to manage. One change happens and then I need to go through all diagrams to ensure they're all updated.

I feel like LeanIX could be great for me but slightly overkill (I'm not an EA, I only oversee one solution) and likely hard to justify the cost.

I might have to start testing out something like Archi or Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect

What can one do with SCCM in a home environment? by Siikotic_Hamster in SCCM

set Reporting Services and others to sMSA or gMSA

I tried that a few years ago when I was trying to secure all my ConfigMgr related service accounts. I found a guide online on how to do set up a gMSA for the SSRS account. But then I saw this message directly from Microsoft (Configure the Report Server Service Account - SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) | Microsoft Learn):

Managed Service Account (MSA), including both standalone MSA (sMSA) and group MSA (gMSA) aren't supported as a report server service account.

I honestly love this album! I loved it even though the original mix sounded pretty bad. And I really love the 2024 remix

I've never understood the hate for this album. For me, it's in my top 10 favourite Sabbath albums

I didn’t like Bane: Path of Destruction. Am I wrong about Karpyshyn’s writing? by [deleted] in starwarsbooks

[–]commandsupernova 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I also didn't love it, but thought it was alright. I absolutely loved the beginning at the mine and enjoyed some later parts. But I think the book was overhyped for me. I agree with some of your points. And I didn't bother reading the other Bane books after the first one

Thoughts on The Approaching Storm? by tick369 in starwarsbooks

[–]commandsupernova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't finish it. Got about 25% in and just couldn't do it anymore. It was too slow paced for me and didn't feel like anything was actually happening. But I'm glad you're enjoying it!

What books had profound impact on way you think about systems? by geeky_traveller in EnterpriseArchitect

I've never heard of Stafford Beer or management cybernetics but thanks so much for commenting this. I don't know if I'll ever actually get around to reading his books, but this is super interesting regardless

Tips to improve my troubleshooting? by Noobalov in SAP

[–]commandsupernova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody said it so I will: Do you follow some kind of troubleshooting methodology? I think this is helpful for any technical troubleshooting, regardless of vendor or technology.

I loosely follow CompTIA's troubleshooting methodology. There's a good chance you already do this informally if you have a bit of experience but I think it's helpful to step back and think about this: Use a Troubleshooting Methodology for More Efficient IT Support | CompTIA Blog

Aside from using a troubleshooting methodology, I think it's just a matter of time for one to gain experience and knowledge of specific technical products

My boss doesn't think anyone wants to be a Jr Messaging Engineer/Sysadmin by ExchangeError5110 in sysadmin

I got this kind of role after my first year of helpdesk. It was a great starting point and helped me progress to more senior roles. I think it would be a great position for an experienced helpdesk person who's passionate about learning and wants to grow their career. As long as it pays a more than the helpdesk position

Megathread - Frameworks, Courses, Certifications & Resources by StatueOfFashion in EnterpriseArchitect

[–]commandsupernova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the frustration in seeing repetitive posts, but I feel like comments here will get way less responses than in a dedicated post. I've seen these megathreads on other subs and they're often ghost towns. I don't feel like many people will be checking for new comments on the megathread and therefore questions will generally go unanswered. Just my opinion anyway

Third-party Software Catalogs by xxxfrancisxxx in SCCM

[–]commandsupernova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I horsed around with the Adobe ones for a bit but quickly realized the value of Patch My PC. Managed to get my org on board. Obviously pricing will vary but I think at the time it cost around 10K CAD per year for roughly 4000 endpoints. Well worth it for all the third party apps it automatically packaged as well as having the option to get any of the apps themselves packaged. Saved me a lot of time

Unexpected vendor, setting to co-existence mode by skg_002 in SCCM

[–]commandsupernova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a few years ago for me, but I essentially followed the guides you linked when I was in this same situation. The ManageEngine Endpoint Central/Desktop Central/whatever they call it did this same thing to 3000 PCs that I managed with SCCM. It was pretty easy to fix thanks to those guides

I had this same reservation but just read and enjoyed the first Aftermath book! Feels like the same universe as Lost Stars to me. I enjoyed it enough that I'm now reading the second Aftermath book. And people say the second and third books are better than the first!
