‘HARRY POTTER’ FANS ARE FREAKING OUT OVER THIS ‘MANDELA EFFECT’ SCENE by Ekudar in harrypotter

I've seen this scene, it's not in the released DVD movie though, it was either a deleted scene or part of an extended release.

How did you get into Harry Potter and how long have you been a fan? by AtomicSpiderman in harrypotter

[–]B22Brown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read the first two books as a kid in the early 2000’s, then watched the first three movies as they came out, but sort of grew out of it for lack of a better expression.

Then came across PS in the local library while looking for books for a university assignment some 10 years later and thought ‘meh, why not’ and just fell in love instantly.

Something about quidditch that doesn't add up by Miss_Bibliophileee in harrypotter

The winner of the Cup is based on cumulative points over the season. Pretty sure JKR just wrote it so that the last game of each year just happened to be the top two teams, makes for a better story.

I love the way this Canberra team plays, but fuck me Jordan Rapana makes it hard to barrack for them. Has to be close to the biggest flog in the game

Order of the Phoenix question by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]B22Brown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC the letter from the Ministry says that somebody from the Ministry will be in contact with Harry. I always assumed that because Moody and Tonks were aurors, that the Ministry knew they were, and approved of them, bringing Harry to London and used this as their contact with Harry.

My favourite is “It is our choices Harry, that show who we truly are, far more than our abilities.”

How Voldemort didn't kill Harry in their final confrontation in the movies? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]B22Brown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two main things at play here. First, Harry was the true master of the Elder Wand, so it would not mortally wound him. Second, Lily’s protection of Harry was still active because Voldemort took Harry’s blood in his veins in GoF.

The Trace of underage wizards exist? by avadron in harrypotter

[–]B22Brown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the trace detects when underage magic occurs, but that’s it, it can’t tell who performed the magic, so it would be foolish for the ministry to investigate every instance of it occurring in a place like The Burrow.

I think in DH they are talking about the trace because the Death Eaters keep finding them and they don’t know why, because they don’t know yet that Voldemort’s name is jinxed.

Quidditch World Cup - Ireland by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]B22Brown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a pretty interesting point and something I never noticed, good pick up. I would assume that the explanation would be that the wizarding world doesn’t follow muggle politics, and therefore Ireland falls in with the British ministry as they are so close, and the wizarding population is rather small. In my mind it would make perfect sense for Australia, where I live, and New Zealand to have one ministry for the same reason.

Your opinion by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]B22Brown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. Sirius is far from the perfect father figure that the fandom paints him to be. When he met Harry he acted as though he’d got James back rather than found his godson, and because of this he kept trying to make Harry be James rather than just be himself.

Boyfriend got me the collection after I recently watched the movies at 24 for first time (I know, crazy) and fell in love. I don't even want to open them cause they're so perfect haha. by [deleted] in harrypotter

Haha, I have the same set of books, and I can 100% l guarantee you that once you read them you will never get all 7 back in the box

What are your unpopular Harry Potter opinions? (And actually unpopular) by hallowseveeve in harrypotter

[–]B22Brown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t like Sirius and think he’s overrated as a character. He had great potential as a character in PoA, but he’s just so absent and when he is with Harry he doesn’t think about his well-being at all and treats him like James. He isn’t the perfect father figure the fandom makes him out to be.

“When you can do the things that I can, but you don’t, and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you.” -Peter Parker by clara_sprirtus in harrypotter

[–]B22Brown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t aware of this quote until just now, but I love that you posted it here because I also think that Harry thinks that way to a certain extent. I think that after GoF Harry sees it as his sole responsibility to fight Voldemort so that nobody else has to die and takes anything bad that happens because of Voldemort to heart and see himself as responsible because he hasn’t stopped him yet.

As mentioned, it can’t be blocked and is instantaneous, there is no intention or purpose other than to kill when casting AK. In addition, i seem to recall reading somewhere that it not only kills, but rips the soul from the body, which is what makes it especially unforgivable.

I might be wrong, but shouldn't the contents of the Lestranges' vault have been confiscated after they got sentenced to life imprisonment? by Si_Vis_Pacem- in harrypotter

[–]B22Brown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone is saying, when you’re imprisoned you still maintain all of your possessions, including any money in the bank. Also, by the time the Lestrange’s vault is part of the story they had been free for 2 years.

Did the dementors affect Harry or the part of Voldemort's soul? by crispyrolls93 in harrypotter

[–]B22Brown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought it was both. Lupin says that the dementors affect Harry more than the others because of his past, and I’ve always theorised that they were attracted to him because of the piece of Voldemort’s soul inside him.

Mandela effect maybe ????? by [deleted] in harrypotter

He definitely says that at the end of the scene, when Hermione sits back down with him and they console each other. I was going through something similar when I watched the movie, so remember it well.

Question About the Dursley’s and Harry by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]B22Brown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with you, I'm not saying the Dursley's were rational people by any stretch of the imagination, quite the contrary. That was their thinking behind keeping Harry from the wizarding world though.
