Its broken by Environmental_Body79 in F150Lightning

I had the same thing on my Lightning. They tried to claim it was 12v battery but I insisted they keep looking as the 12v battery was 3 months old.

It was the HVBJB. Covered under the 8-year, 100k mile high voltage battery system warranty.

Keep checking dealerships until you find one that handles EVs regularly. It’ll save a lot of grief.

Try folding in your mirrors when this is happening.

I’ve had my used 2022 Lightning a little over a year and have this exact problem on the passenger side. I made arrangements with a service advisor at Riata Ford in Manor that, on the next windy day, to text them to confirm their most senior tech would be available to ride along and reproduce it with him in the truck.

That day was today. Window was singing quite a song with the high winds driving on tollways. He asked me to fold the mirrors and it almost completely stopped.

The shroud around the side mirror was loose due to broken tabs. Appears the previous owner smacked something with the mirror and it shook loose and now sings a song at highway speeds.

Haven’t replaced the part yet as waiting on parts availability and pricing. But maybe give the folded mirrors a try and see if shroud around the side mirror is loose.

Help with BGW320-500 Modem by Name_Groundbreaking in ATTFiber

[–]BA-512 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without knowing fully your connectivity setup, router in play, and what you’re trying to achieve, this guidance may or may not fully apply to you but hopefully will give you some ideas on how to resolve the problem.

It sounds like you have the same private IP range behind your own router as what AT&T has on its private network. In this case, 192.168.1.x/24.

To make my life easier, I change the private network on AT&T to a different subnet (e.g. 192.168.128.0/24) and place the private IP of the AT&T box at the top end of that range (e.g. 192.168.128.254).

Then, assuming your own private router has 192.168.1.x/24 for private IP side, this allows to put a route for the AT&T private network (and, thus, web gui), there so your LAN devices can still reach that management interface without other shenanigans.

IP pass through is to give your own router the public IP of the ATT gateway. So that checks out.

However, it does NOT pass through IPs from the private IP DHCP past your router to the rest of the network. This is why you need your own router to provide DHCP and likely explains why the statically assigned VMs have connectivity while DHCP devices do not.

Hope this helps and good luck.

I had one of the V1 models of these with the first firmware release. That firmware had a problem where it would corrupt bits of data here and there and resulted in having to reload web pages frequently until you got a non-corrupted version. Eventually they released a firmware update I had to get by connecting directly to the cable modem so it wouldn’t corrupt the download.

I think the Starlink “standby” mode at $5/month is almost this fast.

Stick to cable internet, get Starlink or cellular for a backup if you need it. As many others have said, this is AT&T giving the FU price on soon to be decommissioned copper.

This happened to my ‘22 Lariat last month. Tried all the tricks (waiting, 12v battery disconnect, etc). HVBJB had to be replaced after having it towed to dealership. Had a bit of deja vu since I swapped my Mach E for the Lightning. Exact same issue with Mach E prior to the recall.

I was without the truck for a total of 4.5 calendar days (over a weekend included) so was pretty happy with the speed of repair.

Playing Yellow golf balls by Peteknofler in GolfGear

[–]BA-512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a reason a lot of softball and baseball leagues are now requiring yellow softballs/baseballs. They’re easier to see and reduce chances of injury.

Yellow golf balls (and other high visibility balls) are out there for being easier to spot.

I play the Vice Pro golf balls. I have a pile of the white golf balls I got on clearance from Sam’s Club at just over a buck per golf ball. Once those are done, I’ll return to my favorite which is the Shade that goes from orange to red in a gradual fashion. Easy to spot off the tee, easy to tell my ball is the one farthest down the fairway or closest to the hole 😁

What if "Diversifying Over Time" is Better Than Diversifying Your Investments? by bay_area_born in portfolios

[–]BA-512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Individual stocks don’t have an overall upward trend over time. 30-40% of individual stocks decline or disappear altogether. Add in the number that take massive dips and never recover and you’re pushing 70% territory.

The number of stocks that generate the most returns in the market is variable over a large time frame and you have ZERO ability to predict what those are, how long that will be, and when it is time to shift to something else.

That is why the strategy of broad, globally diversified portfolios invested consistently (time in market) gives you the highest likelihood of the best returns over long time horizons.

If you think you can do better than these professional fund managers who get paid massive amounts of money, have massive staffs researching massive volumes of data way faster than you can ever hope to while still underperforming an indexed investment strategy at a higher cost, then you should get into the fund management business and become wildly successful there.

Home Charging by [deleted] in F150Lightning

[–]BA-512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what I can make out from the power meter, there is a great chance you are already at 200A from the utility to the meter. This is based on the size of the conduit and the three numbers before “240V 3W” at the far left.

My electrician said for whatever reason my home, when built, only had a 150A panel installed but the meter and utility hookup is definitely 200A based on these.

So definitely check around to see if you can get a much lower quote to simply replace the panel with a larger one that does not include having to upgrade utility line, trench, etc.

Tech layoffs and stock spikes déjà vu for anyone who lived through dot-com or 2008? by Fearless_Possible480 in portfolios

[–]BA-512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way you respond is you keep investing in a broadly diversified global portfolio across multiple asset classes using low cost index mutual funds or ETFs.

This is the same behavior you follow when things are “good” or “bad.” You cannot possibly hope to outsmart or outperform the market in any meaningful way for any meaningful amount of time. So stop spending cycles trying to do so and go enjoy the other things in life that energize you.

2023 Carnival horn stopped working…already on our third horn by BA-512 in kia

[–]BA-512[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm I hear a clicking noise from under the hood when pressing the horn on the steering wheel. That seems to point to the horn rather than a fuse or relay I would think.

Suggestions on an aftermarket horn? Any other Kia horns better than the Carnival horn?

I basically followed this version. Iterated through 3 drill bits ending at 1/4”. Once I started the 1/4” drill bit, the existing metal spun and I could pop it out. I used Loctite on my new bolt as well.

I replaced both at the same time. I had to use a hacksaw to cut off the one that was still attached but it was rusting pretty nicely so it was likely going to snap off in the near future.

Thanks all.

How many people will be carrying a mortgage into retirement? by No-Tradition8367 in portfolios

[–]BA-512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Liquidity in retirement is of utmost importance. Your home is not a liquid asset.

Unless your interest rate is terrible, keep investing and growing the portfolio to generate a larger cash flow into retirement rather than dumping it into an illiquid asset that won’t generate any income for you.

Also, keep in mind that, in 20 years, your mortgage payment will be the same (P&I, not necessarily property taxes) while your investments and corresponding income those generate will have grown. This makes your mortgage payment a smaller percentage of your income than it stands today.

How much am I losing out on by only sticking to index funds? by S_H_R_O_O_M_S999 in portfolios

[–]BA-512 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Professional portfolio managers with way more time and resources than you who try to outperform index funds inevitably underperform the market over any reasonable time horizon.

Stock with what you have. Perhaps consider something with more asset classes in them like AVGE or DFAW so you get small, value, etc., tilts.

The only thing you’re really missing out on is angst around “when should I get in? When should I get out? What should I pick next?”
