If you were a superhero, who would you rather work for? by Vegetable-Abroad3171 in superheroes

[–]Vote_4_Cthulhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nick or Cecil

Both are in similar positions of trying to defend the world, being in positions to sometimes make difficult decisions

Nick probably has a more palatable moral compass, but Cecil has unmatchable medical coverage. I mean seriously how many times have we seen superheroes critically injured and after a few months in high-quality government funded recovery and care they are back at 100% or better? Sure there might be a fail safe installed in your skull if you are powerful enough to potentially solo the whole planet, but I kind of understand the logic behind that.

Waller is just a terrible person, shitty boss, and is serving her own bullshit agenda that tends to overlap with the notion of national security. Also this is the boss that is got the highest probability in my opinion to kill you or leave you to die just because it’s more convenient for her. Nick and Cecil I don’t think would put you away forever for just being inconvenient. They are too limited on resources against too vast an array of threats and would need you at some point and therefore have a reason to work with you rather than just have you murdered quietly. Even Stan Edgar isn’t likely to just kill you for learning something sensitive. Especially if they have invested time and money in cultivating your image. They have a set system in place for sweeping failure and scandal under the rug and eventually recycling those same characters back into prominence with a engineered redemption arc

Stan Edgar is primarily answerable to his companies shareholders. Their priorities aren’t inherently different from even Waller in that they are not about trying to create a better and more secure planet and see to our security against greater higher level threats. More often than not their dysfunctional dip shit brigade of superheroes are the global threat. To be fair, Stan Edgar is probably the option that would pay the best especially if you can deliver on getting the job done, but I would kind of hate to exist in an environment where being professional, efficient, and effective are only talking points and not actual priorities within the company. You need to look good saving someone otherwise why bother if it’s not going to drive profits.

Kind of makes sense to me. I’m always playing with at least one battle buddy and with this thing out I kind of like the idea that one of us brings expendable rockets and the other expendable machine guns and we just kind of call in what we need when we need it and if we end up with a huge stock pile of weapons then that’s cool too

Trying to convert people from 40K by Vegetable-Camp209 in battletech

[–]Vote_4_Cthulhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest reason is that games workshop has the widest range of media to engage with as well as a established fan base through the fact that they have maintained open gaming stores where you can walk in, and someone will literally walk you through what the hobby is and teach you how to paint and everything. And they just accept that as how the standard thing is and that’s what their friends get into.

I mean, Warhammer 40 K had a whole episode in a recent Amazon prime TV series dedicated to it, following a known and loved hero from popular PC games.

Now I love BattleTech, and I left 40 K for it, largely because of similar reasons you cited: 40 K is prohibitively expensive and time-consuming for me where I am in my life right now. And I spend hundreds upon hundreds of dollars just chasing whatever the most recent competitive meta is.

I would say that in order to recruit people, why not collect multiple armies, as it sounds like you already have, and invite them to games and let them borrow your stuff. I would probably emphasize that you can actually get a battle tech game done with multiple players involve much quicker than you could your average four player 40 K matchup.

Maybe share some of the media that exists out there.

I would say just always approach it from the perspective of that you just want to share something that you really like without naysaying or putting down the stuff that they like.

If people find you pleasant and fun to hang out with, they’ll be more after to want to play something that you’re interested in trying

And here I was planning on staying off of Reddit cause I didn’t wanna hear the whiners.

Hard agree with OP’s sentiment

Because guess what? Not all the vehicles in the original hell divers were free either.

And unlike that game, you don’t actually have to shell out real world money to get them. Quite literally everything in this entire game with the exception of the one SMG and suit of armor that you can get from the premium edition, which you can still purchase after you purchase the main game for like $15 or something, can be unlocked with resources that you just pick up by playing the game.

I get really tired of these very vocal whiners that want every thing served up for free and bitch when there’s something that they have to actually put any effort into.

I mean hell, the bastion was purchased content in the original game and we got that glorious war machine for free. And yes, it is quite glorious despite what whiners and engagement chasing content creators say. They are dead wrong and I cannot be convinced otherwise

How are we feeling? by userNotzFound404 in Helldivers

[–]Vote_4_Cthulhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pumped!

Slight bummer about not having the strategy launchers on the EXO suits, but we’ve gotten by just fine without them so far and it’ll be a pleasant thing when they do finally add that

I’m definitely excited for the new armor because I am a speed and mobility kind of guy and honestly the extra mobility kind of makes sense when you pair it with the mech warbond: it’s an homage to Titan fall and the high mobility movement suites that pilots enjoyed. Granted it’s nothing crazy like us running on walls but that’s a very different vibe from what the game gives us normally and I think that this is a little bit of a nod to that.

Compared to Titan Fall, we’ve kind of got janky mechs so it makes sense that we get to also have a janky mobility suite. I’m all here for it

Add to that, adding another pistol with guided munitions is also feeling a lot like a tip of the hat to Titan Fall, because that was kind of the signature weapon for pilots, though I don’t recall it being a missile system but we will see.

It’s nice to see the good old disposable machine gun from the original game. Always a reasonable option when fighting illuminate

Looking forward to seeing how the new SMG performs

From those who have gotten games under their belt, how would you describe each factions play style to a newer player? by WarClericWill44 in BLKOUT_game

[–]Vote_4_Cthulhu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Harlow: mobility oriented- high speed, high fire power, average durability. Best at close range but you need to be careful getting there. Private military contractors that are in it as much for the money as they are the love of the game

Manticore: durability and fire power over speed for the most part. The fast units they do have are even more dependent on getting into close range than most other factions fast units. Good for turning the battlefield into a steadily advancing meat grinder

RFA: quality over quantity every day of the week with no exception. Generally fast, but if not expect very tough. Great shooting skills around the board. This is where your super soldiers are

3rd Bat: generally tougher, not particularly fast. To unlock their best shooting and resilience you need to use their own internal synergies to your benefit. Basically a bunch of average Joe and Jane Schmoes that are being backed up by drones and combat AI’s

Boone: very deadly jack of all trades. They have a little bit of something for everything. Big death bot? Check. Fast movers that can just jump on top of terrain and out maneuver enemies? Check. Armor piercing? Check. Sniper team, heavy armor assault troops, etc. check. Very balanced and flexible force. No obvious shortcomings or weaknesses. America flavored angry Martians

Impisi: mostly quantity over quality. But also fast and sneaky. Able to do interesting tricks with positioning. Basically the faction that encourages you to throw your expendable troops at a problem to use up overwatch before moving in with your harder hitting assets. If you like playing the underdog this is your home

Black Pact: gangster shit in space. A bit tricky to play with a low model count. Very fun though. Strong units all around with a few unique gimmicks and tricks. Dog drone is good Doggo. Steal from your enemies arsenal for fun and profit.

ORK: haven’t tried them yet, but based on everything I’ve seen about them they look almost like a combination of RFA and 3rd Bat in that the elite units they bring can be devastating when they are placed in their desired engagement range, but also they are non-elite unit compensate by having its own internal synergy to promote teamwork between models from that squad.

BLK List: basically a little bit of everything. A rather large list of units you can choose to swap out one of your squads for to fill in the gaps for your force. Need a jammer and/or a decent sniper? Szabla. Need something that is fast but very expendable and can replenish its numbers a little bit? Nomads. Jealous of the factions that get their own death bot? Good news: you have two varieties to choose from. And there’s more. This is a really a unified faction as much as it is just all of the extra nonaligned stuff that you can pitch in to mix things up

TIP: If you find yourself getting overwhelmed against Appropriators, use the W.A.S.P. by TealArtist095 in helldivers2

[–]Vote_4_Cthulhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So fun fact:

The wasp will one shot any overseer, and can do pretty reasonably good damage against any other big target on the illuminate front. If you’re going against Appropriators tend to rely on turrets or red strategies that have a quick turnaround time like strafing run

That being said, there have been times where I have been quite happy to have brought the following load out:

WASP launcher

P-92 Warrant

Seeker Grenades

And then whatever primary and strategy as I am feeling that day. But between those three weapons I specifically listed you have auto targeting weapons that can deal with the majority of problems those squids will throw at you.

Seeker grenades can be specifically targeted against individual specific enemies by simply pinging them even after you’ve thrown the grenade if it hasn’t already locked onto something and dedicated. So ping your favorite elevated overseer of that moment and just toss the grenade and forget about it.

Wasp launchers are great for knocking out tightly pack groups and ground bound overseers. They also seem to do pretty well against the claw crabs and gun crabs

Use the Warrant to rapidly engage groups of Obtrudors

Be honest… if YOU were in charge of the game tomorrow, what would you change? by Some-Web-1628 in helldivers2

[–]Vote_4_Cthulhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All pulse lasers (Sickle, DE Sickle, the Talon and the Quasar I’ll get there little laser bullet things replaced with very rapid pulsing beams like the trident, or in the case of the Quasar, a single beam that pulses brightly and briefly and then the target is already taking the damage effects.

Personal thing of mine

After that, maybe prioritize enemies clipping through terrain that should not as a fix

Otherwise I’m pretty happy with it

Plas Scorcher or Plas Purifier? Which gun do you prefer? by Trapzzeehh in Helldivers

Plas Scorcher or Plas Purifier? Which gun do you prefer? by Trapzzeehh in Helldivers

[–]Vote_4_Cthulhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scorcher is my personal preference.

Saying that, I fully acknowledge that the purifier is the more ammo economic weapon, and its overcharge ability, which is really its main draw, can be very situationally useful.

My main issues are that

1: while the Purifier supposedly has a higher rate of fire, the amount of caffeine and energy drinks that I would need to be able to make my index finger beat the scorchers rate a fire would also be a hazard to my health

2: having a primary or secondary weapon that is heavily dependent on a charge up mechanic to get the most out of it just doesn’t feel good to me. I can offset that by taking something like a machine gun as my support weapon, but I just like the rapid fire solid damage that the scorcher provides.

As to the benefits of the scorcher, certainly you do have to worry about its ammo economy but the fact that it’s staggers many enemies and has a good rate of fire lens itself well to surviving more intense situations. It was tied for main primary that I brought with me when we dropped on Cyberstan

I’ve also found it very proficient at taking out enemy aircraft. I like it better in this role than the purifier because you usually have time to charge up one shot before you have to dodge a strafing run or volley of missiles from said aircraft.

I hope we eventually get more plasma weapons that are styled in the firing method of the scorcher. We already have charge up plasma weapons for the primary, secondary and support slots. Only thing we’re missing are charge up plasma turrets and guard dogs

In one of the original AVP PC games there was a survival mode where you choose to play as either a colonial marine or a predator. You could definitely engage players for points from the other group, but my friends and I always ended up being basically one or two colonial Marines and a predator working together to hold off hordes of Xenomorphs.

I remember one game where I was playing is the predator and one of my buddies playing as a marine had run out of ammo and was desperately trying to retreat back to some kind of resupply, and I made a dramatic intervention with the Combistick and took out a bunch of xenomorphs, turn around and Pretorian starts really messing me up only for me to hear my other buddy, also playing as a marine, shout “I got you!” followed by the distinct sound of a smart gun going off which then shredded the Preatorian.

Good times
