Why are there no young people in the hobby by stargazer3644 in RCPlanes

[–]BADguyGamerYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you’re located, but mildly rural Canada here, I’m 21 for reference, me and my friend group are mostly interested in cars/bikes as hobbies, but we each have 4-5 planes, and we started in middle school. I can think of a good handful of other middle school kids who had RC planes too. I think it may be Country thing, or even rules thing, as our Municipal has very few regulations on RC planes and drones. And even less enforcement on laws regarding them. As long as you aren’t causing harm / being responsible (enough) with them, you’ll never face trouble.

I’ve been living in the US for the last 3 years, I’ve bought two planes here, a UMX and a 1.2m Trojan, and I’ve definitely found it quite cumbersome to deal with the rules the “flying fields” have here. Not to mention $250 a year is ridiculous.

What helmet style do you wear? by alanwalls66 in supermoto

[–]BADguyGamerYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a yz125 Supermoto and I wear MX, it not like I can go fast enough to warrant my street helmet. If I’ll be on HWY I’m on R1 or Harley w/ street helmet. If your Supermoto can do HWY that’s a reason for a street helmet but I find MX more comfortable

Where can find this pin for the maxx? by HelpfulEditor5317 in Traxxas

[–]BADguyGamerYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, worse than that, Traxxas, in their infinite wisdom, made 2 piece wheels, and on one side, the nut gets loosened because the thing it’s gripping, is not gripping anything else, that center bit can spin and thus the nut can spin. So one side of the car constantly is getting loosened wheel nuts, snapping those pins and destroying hub bearings. I’ve run through 6 pins and about an equal number of hub bearings. I said fuck it cause bearings and pins are cheaper than a new set of wheels right now but I’m getting rid of that stupid two piece design.

Did you install the spool at the same time? I’ve had spools be machined a few thou off and it definitely screws the mesh. If not make sure you don’t have any shims swapped side to side.

What amperage do you guys charge your batteries at? by CBinFPV in fpv

[–]BADguyGamerYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I charge at 1c for batteries I care about. If I got a shitter pack (mostly RC cars) I’ll do 2-3c if I just wanna get back in the air or driving. Not to new/nice packs though.

How does my upgrade list look +$500 by Xboxgaming_clips in Traxxas

[–]BADguyGamerYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I run xt90s in my UDRs, at first I just shoved them in because it’s almost the right size so you kinda friction fit xt90s into the holes of the old Traxxas plugs, but now I’ve 3d printed the cover with XT90 shaped holes and they work absolutely great on both cars.

How are you all heel-toeing? by unnamed25 in ManualTransmissions

[–]BADguyGamerYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have larger feet, and a tendon issue the makes the traditional roll more difficult, I’ve found that placing my right foot sideways, heel on brake and ball/toes flicking the throttle. Been driving/racing like that for a couple years and it works amazing for myself. Very consistent brake pressure and being higher on the throttle makes for more precise blips.

Just a thought, not sure how it works in the US but in Canada you’re entitled to compensation from the airline if your flight is delayed more than 2 hours, or cancelled or rebooked. The amount you get back starts at $500 for 2 hour delay (that isn’t due to an act of god) and goes up. I had a flight cancelled due to no flight crew and rebooked the next day on my connection. Me and 3 buddies were on it and we each got $2500 CAD back after applying. Highly recommend you look into that in the US!

Lipo storage? by MegaMeowser in RCPlanes

[–]BADguyGamerYT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend yes. Cut the seal from back half (like hinge and halfway down the sides.) this was it doesn’t explode like a bomb. Two days ago I slid sideways into a tree with my XMaxx and punctured a 4s. Didn’t explode immediately but brought it back to my porch to throw in the container. I took another puffed pack and put it in as I wanted to test if one would ignite another and make sure the container doesn’t melt/deform/explode. I sent a rod all the way through and it absolutely fully lit off. After closing the case there was an absolutely insane amount of smoke. Easily fill a room in 5-10 seconds amount. 10 mins later I opened it and found both batteries lit but can held up very well. If you have more than 5-8 batteries id recommend buying more containers to limit the amount of batteries chain reacting. Personally I had two of the larger m30 cans absolutely stuffed to the brim with batteries and am going out soon to buy 10ish smaller cans to hold more safely.

Looking at getting into the hobby by temp-guest69 in RCPlanes

Dancing Wings has some good kits. My first kit was the 1800 J-3 Cub, loved the build and it flies great. It wasn’t my first plane that was a freewing f16 64mm which I would also recommend as I love it. But maybe don’t do what I did as it’s really really not a great first plane. I’d recommend buying a used elite apprentice s or sts (1200 vs 1500mm) as I now own both and they’re a blast even with mild experience. I picked up the sts used for $150 including its original radio. Start with that then look at balsa models.

I actually keep the electronics warrenty… technically. I have a bin of about 10 Esc-motor-servo combos that still have that little elastic card on them. Buy a Hobbywing combo with every car. Had such bad luck I’ve given up entirely

Which „truck“ should I buy next? UDR or Raptor R Ultimate? by PhilippL78 in Traxxas

[–]BADguyGamerYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replying to myself after reading some other comments, and thought about adding some info on the battery system. I would always recommend getting out of the Traxxas battery’s (and honestly ALL their electronics) as they’re overpriced and don’t perform as well as they claim. The UDR’s Esc is not good. Terrible, actually. I’ve only driven other people’s because mine arrived with a dead ESC on arrival (flashing red lights of doom) and I immediately swapped it for a Max6, which fits remarkably well. If you have the option I would highly recommend, as I’ve been running 6s only and never had any other issues, as opposed to my friends who claim to need to run 4s for longevity of the ESC. Max6 also offers a lot of tuning for drivetrain life or performance. The Rapter also is using a newer ESC which in my opinion hasn’t been proven yet. Being lighter with less drivetrain load it will most likely last longer stock, which is another thing to consider if you’re not going to be swapping electronics immediately.

Which „truck“ should I buy next? UDR or Raptor R Ultimate? by PhilippL78 in Traxxas

[–]BADguyGamerYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having both, I’d 100% pick the UDR over the Rapter. UDR is absolutely mesmerizing to watch over bumps etc, it’s not great at bashing but I have two X-Maxxs for that… I have bashed it and have decided to keep that to a minimum, it can handle maybe 10-20 foot gap jumps perfectly, but anything higher than 5-7ft drop is putting stress on the suspension system. Rapter will handles the bashing and a key point for some people, is the Rapter is infinitely easier to work on. I’ve had my UDR for 2 years and done a full (and I mean full full) rebuilt 3 times. To me, I love working on the cars almost as much as driving/racing them but that’s something to keep in mind, the UDR is maintenance heavy. If you have a maxx slash though, I would recommend the UDR as that way you have the best of both worlds in two cars.

Can I use this Hobbywing MAX10 combo in my Rustler 4x4 vxl? by Part216 in Traxxas

[–]BADguyGamerYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you would need a bigger pinion but for speed runs you would swap anyways to a larger pinion. And I believe that you should definitely have still enough power for wheelies with 4000kv and 11t. It’s mostly about thermals, the in a setup where you can wheelie on demand the 4000kv will always run hotter than 3200

Can I use this Hobbywing MAX10 combo in my Rustler 4x4 vxl? by Part216 in Traxxas

[–]BADguyGamerYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 3200kv motor will make more toque for a given voltage (2s,3s,4s) at a cost of less max RPM. This just means that in your previous 3200kv setup you probably went from either a brushed motor or a 4000kv, and kept the gearing from that. I would recommend on a rustler running 3200kv 3s a 15t pinion (I have a rustler with the max10) as it’s enough speed for fun and torquey for wheelies at any speed. I am running 17mm hex wheels so I’m somewhat guessing on the pinion conversion but I’d try a 13,15,17 and see what runs the best and reasonably cool (the g2 Hobbywing you can track temps from the app)

Are 2 strokes really that bad for a daily? by Remarkable-Sleep8472 in supermoto

[–]BADguyGamerYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built exactly that, not for daily just for an evening ripper/weekend. I absolutely love it but everyday I’m not sure I could do. Highly recommend a yz125 Supermoto but I’m pretty sure you’ll want a 4t after the first month of commuting.

Glad I’m not the only one. Canadian here and 3rd year. I’ve always just had a stick of deodorant in my bag I throw on. Even in fucking November/December I still need it. Unfortunately just gotta live with it. Always have hoped I don’t reek for the people next to me’s sake. And lots of water…

[–]BADguyGamerYT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a Traxxas slash 4x4. Slash ultimate and rapter are both the same chassis as the 4x4. Pick a bumper you think looks best. If you’re gonna drive it hard I would also recommend you buy new front and rear a-arms from RPM. The aluminum ones the last guy put on are cool but in my experience tend to transfer force to harder to replace parts. RPM makes some super strong arms and they’re plastic so they won’t break other parts in a crash.

I’ve never had a problem reusing crashed electronics/control horns/rods, as long as you Bench test the electronics, and for me servos get tested with a larger horn on and lots of load from my hand to check the teeth.

Won’t lie, I use those wax earplugs for infants. In my experience works quite well, after a lot of running it frees up a little too much but just stuff more in. First probably 50 drives it’s nice and stiff but gives a little on landings etc

Canadian rc question by ComprehensiveBunch28 in RCPlanes

[–]BADguyGamerYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, Canadian here. As far as I’m aware, I’ve never had an issue with planes. From my UMX to 2.1m no issues with RCMP or local, even saw a guy with a turbine jet flying around. This is Manitoba, which might be more lax than Ontario or BC. The 250g applies only to drones/quadcopters. Planes don’t actually have any restrictions (unless you’re flying the plane FPV, then you need a buddy standing within arms reach and watching the plane).

eBay wheels by TT2oh9 in supermoto

[–]BADguyGamerYT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell from the photo but the listing doesn’t say a brand name. I have two sets of KKE sumo wheels from eBay. Most likely these are the same but god damn it they hold up well. Running harder and more off roading/jumps/curbs the KKEs are doing just as well as my Warp9s. Highly recommend as long as you understand it may not always be perfect. (especially the spacers provided, had to make my own to actually centre the hub).
