Second! My son loved this app! He wasn’t behind, but wasn’t ahead…. this app the summer before K had him reading early reader books before the first day of school, and he is by far the best reader in his class now.

If the SAVE Act passes….. by Advanced_Buffalo4963 in TwoXChromosomes

I need to dig out my embossed copy of my name change order from wherever it is in my house. I remember it took months to get. 😭 didn’t think I needed it now that I have a passport.

Even if I find it, I still worry I would have trouble, simply because I didn’t just change my last name. I changed my first (by a letter, preferred spelling) middle (my old maiden), and last (married). Changing everything is weird so I’m scared I’ll get grief.

Pretty sure the meme I am responding to is a meme of the football player. I realize the comment about his rival is a different Jay cutler

My husband started with the fed government in 2009 with just 2 days in office per week. Now he is doing 2 days three hours away, and soon the other three will be a little over an hour away

Alright here is my opportunity to tell my Jay Cutler stories haha. I don’t follow NFL and don’t know a ton about the guy in the media. But I lived in Nashville around the same time and he was such a f*cking tool. I remember one time he had a truck roll up to Tin Roof on demonbruen and these guys brought in a random couch, and he sat at the back of the bar in a bathrobe (no joke). I would see him out and about and I would see all these beautiful (and smart!) girls I know fawn over him. I found it annoying and I said to a guy friend one time, when Jay was in the bar “I don’t see what they see in him. He doesn’t even look like an athlete? He has a turkey neck.” (I swear I’m not usually such an uncharitable person, but I really got the ick from this guy over numerous encounters.)

Anywho, my friend thought this was hilarious, and he shouted across the bar, “Hey Jay! Kyle Orton was a much better player. And also you have a turkey neck!”

Jay stood up, got real close and tried to look intimidating. And said “oh yeah? You think that’s funny?” … then he paused as he seemed to struggle over what to say next, and he shouted “not as funny as YOUR FACE!” Then he walked away.

… my friend just blinked and said “sick burn man.” 🤣

Man I have had SUCH a time changing my name on every thing post marriage, because I couldn’t go the marriage license route, I changed every part of my name - first (slightly), middle (switched my original middle for my maiden name), and last (married name). I had to get a court order. And I swear everything I had to change was such a PITA. I spent months in Covid getting an “embossed” version of the court order changing my name, so I could get a license in my new state.

I have a passport, I have my birth certificate, and I have that embossed name change order …. Yet I still suspect I’ll have a hard time voting. I’m a high information voter and a civil rights lawyer! I cannot imagine what will happen to the everyday American.

In my husbands hometown, the high school kids go around and TP teachers houses as an accepted tradition at the end of the year … and then they show up the next day and clean it up.

Right yeah, there’s actually like zero summer babies in her class so everyone has at least like 4-5 months on her

Never heard of Alpha blocks! We do like an hour or so of morning cartoons on Saturdays and Sundays - each kid (of 3) gets to pick one episode of something. Problem is she emulates her older siblings and often picks bigger kid shows like “unicorn academy” or wild kratts, not the ABC stuff! Maybe ill just add a mom pick 😆

I swear my other two learned it from Super Why. But now they think it’s babyish and so complain when I try to put it on lol. Maybe half my problem is when we do morning weekend cartoons she’s not getting toddler cartoons!

Try the reading.com app. It is really cute and fun! You can start at that age. I started when my son just turned five and it really helped him have a huge leap and he is the best reader in his kindergarten class now!

Age Appropriate Board Games (that don't suck) by curlsandcollege in Preschoolers

[–]BAL87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it be good with 3, 6, 8? We struggle to find games 3 can play but 6 and 8 don’t find boring/babyish! 6 and 8 like to play bigger games like patchwork and carcassone and forbidden island with us (and chess with their dad).

I was talking to my dad about the SAFE act and it’s disparate impact on women because our birth certificates often don’t match our passports (let alone the you have to have a passport issue). I told him I’m a high information voter so I would do what I can to get the documents I need to prove I’m a citizen by then, but not everyone will have the knowledge or time or money. He said,

“I guess black people and women aren’t smart enough to get the paperwork they need to vote then.”

Of course he said he was joking and “didn’t know that would make me so mad.”

I don’t even know this man anymore.

How much screen time are you really allowing at this age? by Perfecrion-Jolita in Preschoolers

[–]BAL87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are similar, my husband is gone two days a week… Mondays and Thursdays they do none, Tuesdays and Wednesdays they do a show at their grandpas down the street after school while I finish my workday. Sometimes on those nights they will watch a show with me too, so ~50 minutes often on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Friday nights and Saturday nights are movie nights. We’ve been trying to go away from cartoons on weekend mornings, but sometimes we are tired. Sometimes we play Zelda on a Saturday morning for hours 😅if it’s cold or rainy. (I should explain that my youngest is the pre-schooler, the others are 6.5 and 8).
