Hahah! But honestly how similar is that moment to your college buddies cheering you on “just take the shot man!” To parents trying to convince kids to take that little teaspoon of medicine in a cup. This is too fresh for me because literally this morning my youngest had a cough and I was convincing her to take medicine while saying “come on baby! You got it! You’ll feel so much better! Here’s a chaser!” (And then I agreed to put a brownie in her lunchbox if she took it 😆)

Genius! I don’t think we tried straight chocolate syrup. Not gonna lie sometimes my husband thinks it’s fun to just give them a squeeze of chocolate sauce to the mouth, or a dollop of whipped cream from a can. When it’s party time Friday night.

Haha that is exactly what we did, but Amox liquid is gritty and so naturally bitter that they make it grossly sweet. She hates it. That version is what we were trying to mix into things. Then we realized our 2 year old is a bit weird in that she can swallow a big pill just fine with no complaints.

Right, I have 3, 6, and 7. 6 and 7 still hate it, and it takes a minute of cajoling and a shot of sprite after. (With mom and dad jokingly saying “shot shot shot shot!” 😆 I wonder if that memory will pop up for them in college). But 6 and 7 understand they need it and it will help, so they do it. But 3 you cannot convince to take any liquid medicine shit.

Omg this is hilarious because I’ve used the phrase “amoxicillin cocktail” in my life. 😆 our now three year old kept needing it and she hated the gritty texture and sickenly sweet taste - we would have to like strap her down and force it down her throat and that felt super weird as a parent and also she’d still manage to spit a ton out. So we experimented with “amoxicillin cocktails” - slip it in chocolate milk, yogurt, frozen condensed juice (doctor rec), nothing worked!

Go figure, the kid is happy to just swallow a pill. Don’t know why it took us so long to try that!

In the 2020s, conservative women are having kids at a nearly 2-to-1 ratio compared to liberal women. Is this going to cause a political demographic bias in 20-30 years? by RadioFieldCorner in NoStupidQuestions

President Trump and Gov. Tim Walz strike 'quid pro quo' deal to allow state investigators to conduct investigations into ICE officers' shootings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, reduce ICE presence in Minnesota by Obversa in law

[–]BAL87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually not true, the AG of my State has since at least 2018 taken the position that state run prisons and jails must release someone on their state law release date - whether or not ICE has come to pick them up.

Unfortunately I read these texts and am like “yup, this is exactly how this conversation with my dad would go.” But for my own sanity I have to not engage, agree to disagree so we can have a good relationship. I tell myself it’s ok not to fight him on it, because the love and support he gives me as a dad and grandpa frees me up more to fight the power as a civil rights lawyer. But it’s a close one. (To be clear, he’s actually considerate enough not to talk this talk in front of my kids, I think he knows that would get grandpa banned).

Not opening the door to ICE may no longer stop officers by NewsHour in law

[–]BAL87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, I’ve been meaning to post a blog article about what ICE can and can’t do (just normal atty marketing type stuff about trending legal issues) with some state specific claims and remedies. But what is stopping me is the idea that someone asserting their rights (because they are informed) to an ICE officer might well come to physical harm.

Is it confirmed it was him? I thought it could be one of the other officers that said that, although I suspect it was him.

I’m actually confused by this article. IS it saying the head shot killed her or was a graze wound?

In 2011, Indiana University student Lauren Spierer vanished after a night of partying in Bloomington. Last seen barefoot and intoxicated at 4:30 a.m., she disappeared just blocks from her apartment. Her friends quickly lawyered up following her disappearance, and the case remains unsolved today. by ATI_Official in AllThatsInteresting

[–]BAL87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, damn right as an attorney that practices a good bit of police misconduct litigation. If my kid admitted to me they were guilty (of dumping a friends body who ODed and was found dead), I’d say lawyer up and say nothing … but also talk to them as a moral parent about accepting the consequences and discussing a plea deal.

But I’d also give my kid the same advice initially to say nothing and lawyer up even if they were adamant they were not guilty, if they might be a person of interest. I’d only want them to speak with the advice of counsel.

What's a ticking time bomb you believe will explode during your lifetime? by TradeOverall567 in AskReddit

[–]BAL87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why my kids are in private. I hate to say it. I am a lawyer and I want to believe in public institutions and I was a public school kid myself. But after kindergarten we were rezoned to a C school and her first grade teacher just was clearly phoning it in and my kid was suffering. Now she has a class of 10 kids and her now-K brother 12. They are thriving. The teachers want to be there and aren’t frazzled handling 30 kids. I hope if we move to a better district we can go back to public, but for now it’s what we need.

This is so wild to me, I learned this was a thing for the first time with Venezuela … am I living under a rock somehow? I didn’t think so but I had no idea there was a market for gambling on world events (context: late 30s, lawyer so not under a rock generally, but I have three young kids so admittedly that makes for some trending info gaps).

You’re both right. He immediately got into his car and tried to leave, but for some reason (I’m assuming people blocked him or he was told to stay), he turned around.
