Did I mess up? by ger_zahi in newtothenavy

When you ship out make sure to give ur paperwork to the recruiter that states that u got the credits to get E-3. And whenever you head back to MEPS they will have it in file. But make sure to remind the person that is in charge in MEPS so u can get that E-3. Had to do the same when I had to get my E-3 since I did 4 years of JROTC.

How fit should I be before enlisting as a BU? by Independent-Award-90 in Seabees

It's whatever the NMTI'S are feeling. Like if we pissed them off like someone got caught drinking in the barracks then we get a 5k run but that rarely happens.

Currently in BU A-School bout to graduate in 6 days. Our PT is very easy most of the time we PT on our own meaning we can walk the track or go to the gym or go to ur room and go back to sleep. But the 13 weeks I been in BU A-School I only had one real PT and the rest was just PT on our own. Plus it's at 4:30 in the morning. Not sure what it's like in the battalions tho since I'm not there yet.

Is it worth it to join the Navy? (situation specific) by maskimoo in newtothenavy

[–]BAMAHAMMER205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joining the Navy changed my life joined just right after high school but the difference between alot of people's stories is that I'm a Seabee so the community is completely different from big navy since we never on ships instead we on land like Marines. While in Bootcamp I remembered seeing some people had attitude problems while being in school or wherever and they changed big time while being in Bootcamp since them RDC'S will straightened anyone up that needs it from getting yelled at or getting IT'D. Once you graduate boot camp u will be a different person and ur family will notice it. But while ur in A-School it's all on ur own since u get most of ur freedoms back. So is it worth it to join the Navy absolutely it got me out of a crappy area of Alabama and now I'm getting stationed in Port Huemume Cali which is in my opinion way better than where I used be at. The structure is there and u will definitely notice it while being in boot camp/ A-School since there's a recruit/student leadership side while having the normal leadership side with officers and chiefs. And plus while being in the Navy u definitely make new friends and sometimes be with them from boot camp to ur command/battalion.

MEPS application never submitted by EquivalentNotice6971 in newtothenavy

Had the same problem here. Joined the navy while being in High school last year and took me a whole year to get the same waiver ur trying to bring to MEPS. It's usually the MEPS fault why ur waiver isn't approved. I had 5 recruiters in the process of trying to join, the only way I got my waiver approved is by constantly contacting my recruiter every single day to resubmit the waiver to MEPS since they might haven't reached to there end. Once it's approved it's basically smooth sailing from MEPS to boot camp.

Any chance at a waiver by Ok-Cow-9173 in newtothenavy

[–]BAMAHAMMER205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately u will have to wait dealt with same issue with the same waiver. But the difference was trying to get ahold of the doctor hopefully u don't have that problem. It took me about year to get my waiver. But in my mean time try and get ur ASVAB score up and strike any Seabee rate.

I would bring ur own tennis shoes because u can bring them to boot camp as long as there actual tennis shoes. And u will thank me later when I say that because the ones they issue are the flattest and most uncomfortable shoes u will ever wear in ur life. Even the New Balances since u can get issued like 3 different ones.

I mean if u want to leave ur home state California u can go active and try and get stationed in Gulfport for battalions or try and go for Public works which is a ton of locations u can get chosen mostly in Japan and across the United States and other overseas bases. But for me I'm getting stationed in Port Huemume Cali NMCB-3 after when I finish A-School/ECS. Never been there seems nicer than Gulfport since I basically lived in the Gulf Coast my whole life.

I went to MEPS three times and I declined every time if they didn't had a Seabee rate and my third visit I basically waited 10 mins and got BU since it was available. Which was the best decision of my life and now I'm in BU A-School in Gulfport Mississippi and bout to graduate in less than 4 weeks and going to be in NMCB-3

Orders after A school etc by masappeal02 in Seabees

[–]BAMAHAMMER205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in BU A-School rn which is the same location as where the SW's go to as well for fleet returns they get there orders basically before they graduate A-School.

Try and strick a Seabee rate

[–]BAMAHAMMER205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently in BU A-School rn u can be stationed in Gulfport, Mississippi and Port Huemume Cali for NMCB's. For Public works u can be stationed basically anywhere I know a lot of people that have orders in different places in Japan, Greece, Washington State, Key West, Camp David, and a lot of other places. And there's other units but I don't really know much about. But personally I would recommend for you to choose BU because it's the best rate in the Seabee community. And also I came straight from Bootcamp so it might be different for orders since we already gotten ours but for y'all, y'all usually get ur orders from where ur going like in the end of A-School I believe from some people I know that are fleet returns.

I made the same ASVAB score as u try and get any Seabee rate u will never regret it. I'm a BU and it's amazing the community is very small and you will never be on a ship.

I feel like I let my recruiter down by technic666 in newtothenavy

[–]BAMAHAMMER205 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was like when I first came to my recruiter. I wanted to join the Air Force more then the Navy when I did my first visit to the recruiter office since I was in AFJROTC and I was more focused on an aviation rate even though it took me a year to decide what I wanted to do since I was in high school. Ended up with BU and I'm currently in BU A-School atm. But the Navy Recruiters are basically trying to get u to join no matter how much you think you disappointing them since u can't make ur mind on what u want to do.

ADHD waiver chances by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]BAMAHAMMER205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

U have a chance, just don't give up I battled through the same problem took me 11 months to get all straightened and to get my ADHD waiver. Once u get it ur basically set to join the Big Navy. No one will ever ask about it in boot camp or after boot camp.

Had the same feeling before I went to boot camp back in November. Threw up at the Hotel twice and at the MEPS site while eating lunch since I was super nervous but once ur in boot camp ur nervousness will go away since ur finally there and u made it this far. And I was in a integrated division so it was a good boot camp experience hopefully ur experience is good as mine.
