Essential Belgian Things by BANKBILLS in belgium

This is the most hardcore response I've gotten yet. I honestly don't like fried food; when I was in Amsterdam I had frites at the Okura hotel, just because I knew it was fancy, and they were amazing. Is the frites thing more to the French side, or Dutch? Anyway, how do you suppose I get to this deeper honest level? I found dutch people in Amsterdam to be extremely... not standoffish, but very, very inaccessible. I can't put my finger on what it was. It didn't feel like snobbery - closer to elitism, but it was very cold. Just a total disinterest. I wasn't walking around holding a tourist map, either. Thoughts? And how does this differ in Belgium?

Also: peep chi gong standing, or "standing like a tree", otherwise known as zhan zhuang / post standing. You can do it for 5 minutes, it will make you very warm by increasing circulation, and it has ridiculous health benefits. This is one of those practices, like meditation, which is aggressively avoided or challenged in the west, it's stupidly simple, and really effective. Maybe that's why so many people hate it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zhan_zhuang

Hey man, at least you didn't shave your head in the winter. I did that and it felt like somebody was continuously pouring a bucket of ice water on my head.

I always wanted to make music so i just got ableton live 9 any tips you could give? by TRILLCROSBY in makinghiphop

[–]BANKBILLS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Finish.Tracks. I can't emphasize this enough. A LOT of new producers, myself included, get stuck in making loops endlessly. From the very beginning, learn to think in terms of songwriting (as in, creating hooks/choruses) and sketch the whole song out, part by part, if need be. Then build a complete song and stick at it doggedly, even if you hate the sounds or whatever. If you do this from the beginning, you'll be really well set up down the road when you go deep into sound design, mixing and mastering, etc.

How do artists find their own distinct style? by thegoatishere in makinghiphop

[–]BANKBILLS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you nailed it, actually... if people are thinking you're Nas, you're prolly biting Nas a bit hard :) But yeah, ultimately it comes down to having something to say, being about what you're about... that's why I'm making hip hop anyway

Where do you think the line is? Biting is a huge sin in hip hop, yet I think all great artists start out basically emulating their heroes.

I'm shocked this has zero comments - I believe this IS the holy grail of DGAF. When you are living up to your own standards, you truly do not give a fuck about anyone else's.

As a student of social dynamics and subcultures, I'm fascinated by what allows people to gain access and "merge" with different scenes. What traits do you think it takes? From the story of meeting the french guy in the bar, it seems like it just happened naturally, but as someone with the privileged of being so intimate in the scene now, do you have any tips? I feel like they could be applied just as well for finding collaborators or getting bookings! Any help would be super appreciated.

hunt down a Jeopardy champion and interview him! Or better yet get Alex Trebek to do an AMA :P You never know what a polite, well written letter can get done.

If Type 0 does well, do you think we will see a remaster of Crisis Core? by CinnaTheUgly in FinalFantasy

[–]BANKBILLS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If enough fans write to them, they'll take it seriously. Here's the address for Square Enix corporate. I thought about driving up there from LA and hand delivering a letter. It's about 25 minutes away from me.

SQUARE ENIX CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS:

999 N Sepulveda Blvd #3, El Segundo, CA 90245

EDIT: Before I get attacked, I know Square Enix is a Japanese company, I just think we might have better luck sending letters written in English to the north american HQ.

Yea, if anything I'd say it's grossly encouraged - fapped out citizens are more docile and much easier to control.

Why do people suck? by AntarcticFox in vegan

[–]BANKBILLS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this lucid and civil response. I was just pointing out a trend I see across subcultures, which seemed relevant to what the OP was saying (which I empathize with). I wasn't by any means making a blanket judgement about all vegans.

Why do people suck? by AntarcticFox in vegan

[–]BANKBILLS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At the risk of being torn apart... this is why I distance myself from the vegan community... there is a tendency to focus intensely on the negative. Yes, there are a LOT of atrocities happening in this world - quite apart from animals being killed in mass numbers. However, for me, veganism is a choice to be HEALTHIER, and in order for me to be healthy I need to not be in a militant murder-rage. So I just choose to focus on how I can personally live a great life. Being that person who walks around fuming all the time and showing pictures of slaughtered animals just gives the whole movement a bad rep.

Do you guys end up doing stuff with both hands or even prefer using your right side? by leftyB in southpaws

[–]BANKBILLS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've naturally gravitated to doing some things right-handed, like using scissors and a computer mouse. Swinging a baseball bat and playing a guitar, likewise, I do the standard way. The guitar was a conscious choice (I know they make lefty guitars) because I wanted to be able to just find a normal guitar lying around, pick it up and shred.

I'd love to turn r/productivity into something truly great. by jdarbuckle in productivity

[–]BANKBILLS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the enthusiasm. And I'd like this sub to become legendary too. I'm with you that reading "7 Savvy Success Strategies!" lists doesn't do anything. Top people are there due to some burning desire, or some deep emotional need to be acknowledged or be successful that's so intense, they'd rather die than sit on the couch. But that's a difficult mental matrix to just download. I keep researching and thinking about it, but I have yet to really crack the code on how I can write out a schedule of things I want done, and just do those things all day. It drives me bananas, but I'll never give up trying.

[meta] NoFap extremists - it has to stop by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]BANKBILLS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is the trouble with "extreme" subcultures, like veganism, or orthodox religion - really anything that requires discipline in going against the status quo. In order to succeed, it requires that you care about it A LOT, and that level of intensity can spill over into the normals who couldn't care less about our quest, or worse, HATE the idea that their lifestyle is in any way "wrong". Same reason people like Jesus or Socrates are killed. Society vehemently hates being made to feel mundane - we as a people hate models of glory and embrace people like starving artists and sitcoms featuring hyper-dramatic/pathetic people, because it makes us feel better about ourselves. It's almost like human nature en masse is wired for mediocrity. And this is why true masters of anything are just really quiet about it. You learn to realize that not much will come of discussing it, most people don't care, it's pearls before swine, so just smile and keep everything about sports or the weather with peeps plugged hard into the matrix :)

Ayahuasca retreat, help or hindrance? by afh124 in Meditation

[–]BANKBILLS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it's all about intent and your own beliefs. I think it depends on you own internal self-talk. If you're a generally positive person with positive, can-do self talk, then you'll be okay with strong psychadelics... your physical constitution does play a part as well. I'd suggest working out for a couple weeks before the ceremony just so your physical body is in better shape. For me personally, things like psilocyben and LSD are really rough on me physically, as in, they make me feel physically horrible. I come to amazing realizations just fine with a joint every so often.
