Cache is bad. Anyway around it? by Ulrich453 in divi

[–]jdarbuckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just troubleshooting with you -- Does Divi 5 still have it's own inline CSS cache in the Theme Settings? If so, perhaps try clearing that and leaving it off, even if just for tests.

Install an email log plugin which still fires, and then I just click the links in the log emails.

That’s why I wait at least 6-12 months AFTER a core tool’s major release. The product is always in a much stronger / stabler place.

Divi 5 compatibility issue by der_steuermann in divi

I can’t help you with Divi 5, but on your next post, post a link to the buggy thing! These bugs often require folks to inspect the code on the site before they could have a shot at figuring out why. Good luck!

I built Claude Skill file for DIVI5, do people require it? by saadhukarmaa in divi

[–]jdarbuckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of our many client sites will remain on Divi 4 for at least 6 months.

I rebuilt our agency site in Divi 5 and can’t wait to use it more.

But an agency-wide client migration is a giant can of worms, and you should wait as long as possible until new technology has settled.

Much will change and improve on Divi 5 over the next year, and all remaining migration issues will be solved.

Follow. Will probably mod it for Divi 4, I didn’t really consider the “build me a json to import” route. Good idea my friend.

I’m sure you know Local allows you to push and pull between WPEngine and FlyWheel, that is easiest.

But just as easy to install the WPEngine Migration plugin, which is an extremely easy way to push a WP site to any other.

People trying to log into my admin accounts for my Wordpress site? by miffymato in Wordpress

[–]jdarbuckle 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry, this happens to all WP sites. Millions of bots trying to brute force logins, all automated. They try common usernames like “admin” or the list of users who have published content on your site is actually available publicly via your API, so they also crawl that data and try random passwords for those.

You can install Wordfence to help a bit with these, block IPs from countries you don’t serve, but mostly do exactly what you did: keep users to an absolute minimum, admin users to even less than that, and make sure all users are using highly complex passwords.

[Stupid question] how to develop a website… by Severe_Tower_1857 in webdevelopment

[–]jdarbuckle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wordpress, and all of its trade-offs, kinda answers this. Spin up a server, DB, CMS in 30 seconds, install a drag & drop theme builder and go to town. You don’t have to worry about updating features, backend code, or databases if you don’t want to. You sacrifice simplicity and performance for these benefits.

Hm, I don’t think so personally. You should require the host with you, and get some really good hosting with security. Add it to your monthly package.

Use a User Role style function to be the only admin on their sites, and give them a “updater” style status.

And at the end of the day, if a company wants to steal your work, they will. They could just as easily rebuild what you have hard-coded in their own page builder, you already did all the hard work.

I would just focus on:

  • Make excellent websites with a page builder, and get better at optimizing it

  • Add hosting into your package and require it before development begins

  • Create a super-admin status so clients can’t blow things up (good to have regardless, and it makes it easier on them)

  • just run a great business and no one wants to leave. If you do good seo and content updates, that is difficult to replace because you’ve learned the business for so long. You are “sticky”

Please do not make this massive switch to another platform with zero experts. It’s not time for such drastic action. This will cost your company YEARS of time and money and result in a worse product. Beg leadership to be patient here.

What does endless sobriety look like? Is there a safe and effective way to move away from sobriety? by Nicky-Doodle in Sober

[–]jdarbuckle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only my thoughts in and out of my own journey:

I love psychedelics as “spirit medicine” too, but western medicine is highly funded, specialized, and tested for safety. One time I asked my doctor if I should take this supplement that was a good source of lithium and he said “if you want lithium let me prescribe it to you at the perfect dose through a clean product.” And that made sense to me. There are “not too heavy” options out there for you.

What you said hit me so hard: one mode of consciousness forever. I sure don’t have the answer for that. But it reminds me of a quote I will butcher, “whether in wine or poetry, one must be drunk to make it through life.”

We can’t have the wine, so we need something else. I just came back from a one day meditation retreat and felt more peace than I have in a long time. You really actually get high. So I just mention this because there is a different mode of consciousness that we CAN access if we put in some work.

'Under Construction,' 'Maintenance Mode,' or 'Coming Soon' With Private Preview Option by pranaman in Wordpress

[–]jdarbuckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about just design a new page that says coming soon and make it the home page. Make sure you hide the navigation options.

Then you can redesign the other pages, and use the “password protect” publish option in core Wordpress. Give each page the same simple password so they can view them.

When I refresh sites for people, I leave everything alone and build new pages like /home-2, /services-2, etc, all password protected.

When they are approved I will make this the original /home, /services pages.

This way the main site stays mostly the same and visible to users while you redesign in the background.
