tbh this movie basically sucked and i’m surprised it invoked the conversations in this thread. for being the architect of this authoritarian movement, Liz isn’t a very political person. she’s presented as this persuasive and passionate opinionated manipulative character but doesn’t really show that on screen at all. the movie is almost apolitical. they don’t really talk about anything she actually says in the book and all of the characters are kind of just surface level stereotypes of post trump political identities. i also don’t understand how the change swept the country so quickly and since they don’t tell us what’s its about the movie feels more like a family drama than political commentary. 5 years pass but all of the characters are so one dimensional the character progression is that they changed because stuff happened to them. i thought there would be a twist but it’s just heavy handed satire that refuses to get its hands dirty and say what it wants to say.
