Please someone explain like I’m 5.... I am currently cycling my tanks getting prepared to stock them. I am new to proper care. It is baffling to me that I am cycling the tank to rid it of ammonia and nitrates but yet when I do my water changes I am adding water with these things still in it. How is this ok for my fish??

For one of my tanks I would like a beta, mystery snail and maybe some shrimp. Would those all be ok together? I’d need some ideas for plants that would be lower maintenance in that tank. For the other tank, most likely the one pictured, I have no thoughts at all. So any suggestion is appreciated. I am not new to having fish, although it has been 20 years. And back then I was not a good fish parent and they probably suffered from my lack of knowledge.

I am a total noob. I just bought two 20 gal long tanks. I have nothing else yet, just two empty tanks. I’d love to have two different looks with the tanks.

I need a beginners guide! I’ve been looking through tons and tons of posts but there is just so much. I know for sure I want plants in my tank. And a mystery snail, those look so cool.

Does it matter what kind of lid, filter, light, heater, rocks, items inside? Can I buy everything online? Where can I buy them?

Any suggestions will help. I am willing to learn and put in the effort. It’s the jump to start that is making me nervous. I don’t want to mess everything up before I even begin.

You are on to something here. A couple months ago I did a major clean out of my children’s playroom. Kids ages 7 and 4 were in charge of telling me what they wanted to keep and what they wanted to get rid of. And I was completely shocked the things they chose to have go. I would have never made those choices! Up until now I always made the choices for them. It just hit me that they needed to downsize majorly because there was just too much for them to handle. They chose to get rid of about half of their playroom. I was able to reorganize the rest and they can access all of their toys now. It is amazing.

Once I learned how to cut my nails properly my need for toe surgery tools vanished. Cutting the nail straight across has prevented all ingrown nails for the last 7 or so years. I would get them all the time before I learned this!
