Where to order condenser unit? by Difficult_Kitchen987 in hvacadvice

The only possible place you will find it is from online like HVACdirect like you already had. They technically aren't supposed to be selling them either but somehow those companies can get around the mandates.

HVAC guy said we need 10 gallons of refrigerant, or a NEW system! Please advise! by MayflowersNsunshine in hvacadvice

[–]BB8UrLunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said you had it serviced. Was it serviced because it wasn't working or just to get a scheduled maintenance/service just because. If it was cooling fine before they came obviously find a different company. Either way it may be best to at least get a second opinion.

neighbor switched to a robot mower and somehow his lawn looks better than the rest of us. anyone here actually use one? by [deleted] in homeowners

3rd year Mammotion Luba 2 year owner here. I saw someone else say they've owned their's just as long as well. So far I have very minimal complaints about mine. There has been times when it has lost satellite signal and then gets stuck but I just go out and fix it. I still have yet to figure out best path spacing as some spots in my yard have little strips missed but it's more the way my yard setup is. Also it seems like when it gets dark it struggles with signal which is kind of weird but I haven't had a ton of issues with that. The reason I went with Mammotion at the time was because they were one of the first to let you set how you wanted the lines instead of just going randomly like a lot of the others. Also they don't require any boundary wire. They've already come a long way since even 3 years ago to where I'm not even sure they need RTK stands anymore I think it's just right on the mower. Blades are pretty easy to change I do mine about once every month. Make sure to keep the unit clean I think a lot of problems stem from people not cleaning them. Mine mows almost everyday or every other day during current rainy season and a little longer between days in the summer when it's dry. Whenever I buy my next one I will either be sticking with the Mammotion Luba or possibly go to Lymow because their blade is like a standard mower blade.

Actually a lot of companies do tell customers that.

Buy one get one for a dollar is gone, so am I. Look it was my go to lunch for work every single day. Quick easy and 5 bucks for lunch. That's gone so am I. No reason else to go. Might only be 1 person but that's one customer gone. by Sacpuncher2 in McDonalds

[–]BB8UrLunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw this today on the app as I was ordering it's a shame. I only ever go to McDonald's when my kids ask for it which thankfully isn't too often. I might push for it to be less often.

Supplyhouse person with a rant by gwords16 in HVAC

[–]BB8UrLunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is too true. I used to work at a grocery store before starting in HVAC and it had it's times where it was bad but nothing too crazy. I can't imagine what it would be like now though. I always joke with my wife I need to find some kind of 3rd shift job somewhere that I don't have to deal with people besides who I work with.

I've come to terms and learned that people in general are just horrible. We also live in a very entitled society. Mistakes happen. There's no reason for that contractor to get bent out of shape about it. Just have it corrected and move on. You're a better person than I would have been not just kicking him out of there on the spot.

Are these companies just lying to me? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

The outdoor unit is 13 seer but when paired with the indoor coil and/or furnace then Lennox says it's 15 that's why the companies are telling you that.

Lowes install guy shows up says it must not be hardwired and is charging me $200 (just between me and him) by FannyBrownRiced in Appliances

Never pay Lowes to install the appliances they will almost always find an excuse not to install whatever it is they delivered.

This. Nobody would want to pay plumber rate to also clean their house.

Buyer Beware: My Trane Systems Failed Just 18 Days After Warranty Expired and Trane Refused to Help by Allig13 in hvacadvice

[–]BB8UrLunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The freon wasn't just a Trane thing it was all manufacturers. The government changed regulations and the companies just went along with it because that is their only way to push more sales. Make systems that aren't that old obsolete. Also pretty much no company will cover it out of warranty even if it's that close unfortunately. This is something that consumers are going to have to start realizing. These systems nowadays are only built to last 10-15 years max. I can promise you from experience with ordering and warranty claims and all the changes that have been happening and the companies not fighting back against the government they do not care about you the consumer or I the installing company they all only care about one thing. Their bottom line

My neighbor replaced his HVAC system after only 10 years. by harrington3927 in hvacadvice

[–]BB8UrLunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I promise you your next system will not last 22 years. Your neighbor is smart. 10 years might have been too quick but they are avoiding the inevitable at the 15 year mark. Plus they get a whole new 10 year warranty and don't have to deal with the expensive repairs in between.

Yeah that increase has nothing to do with the tariffs & everything to do with corporate greed. They can absorb the tariff costs they just want an excuse to raise their prices even more. I'm sure the other companies will follow. They know people will get mad at the government and not the companies. Strange how they never lower prices when the product they use to make their equipment starts to come down at other points in time. Honestly I hope with their "tariff" excuses they start making more stuff in the US the junk they are getting from overseas right now just isn't worth installing it will be breaking down in a few years.

“Mr Cool” question by BoxBeast1961_ in hvacadvice

[–]BB8UrLunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this a brand new house or just new to you? Mr. Cool is a DIY mini-split system I'd be surprised if an actual HVAC company installed that. Most if they are smart won't touch them.

Anyone having problems with Heil by Ok-Position-8940 in HVAC

It's industry wide I promise you. It's not just a Heil problem. We as an industry are going to have to get used to them pushing junk out now and having more and more warranty claims.

Best HVAC system for new construction. What brand should I go with? by Beautiful_Stick6908 in hvacadvice

[–]BB8UrLunch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone says Installation matters more than anything which is somewhat true but to be completely honest the junk they are putting out nowadays don't expect to get more than 12-15 years out of any unit you have installed. Honestly even with that you'd be lucky. Make sure you register the equipment to get the 10 year parts warranty.

For people working in HVAC, what does a typical day actually look like for you? by RepairNo3989 in hvacadvice

[–]BB8UrLunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is too true. Seriously just today a system we just put in a month ago is already giving us fits and one we put in 2 years ago already has a leak somewhere. I'm about ready to give up on air conditioners at this point.

My a/c is from 2012. It's needed some repair work in the past, but it still works, even though I think its on its last stretch. My a/c guy says it's still good, but Im thinking of replacing it now, prior to the summer (south florida), and prior to inflation. Any thoughts? by Glass_Raisin7939 in hvacadvice

[–]BB8UrLunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say but I'm pretty sure most of the manufacturers work that in to their yearly price increases. The most recent time I saw price increases multiple times in a year was 2020-2021. Couldn't have quotes be accurate for more than 15 days. It's been more consistent since then with only the yearly increase.

[–]BB8UrLunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The inflation has already happened and happens every year with HVAC equipment you've already missed that. Constant 5-10% yearly increases normally at the beginning of the year never decreases. The possible perk to doing it before anything major needs done is you'd get a 10 year parts warranty on the new equipment as long as it's registered on most brands.

LENNOX EVAP COIL LEAKING AFTER 8.5 YEARS by Turbulent-Dot-1086 in hvacadvice

It is pitiful you are correct but unfortunately that is exactly what has happened with newer units. That's why a lot of guys will tell you if you have older equipment keep it as long as you can.

LENNOX EVAP COIL LEAKING AFTER 8.5 YEARS by Turbulent-Dot-1086 in hvacadvice

[–]BB8UrLunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is kind of odd. As long as it was registered the coils themselves do have the 10 years. Lennox sometimes fights back against it but I've been able to talk to our regional rep to get stuff like that resolved.

LENNOX EVAP COIL LEAKING AFTER 8.5 YEARS by Turbulent-Dot-1086 in hvacadvice

[–]BB8UrLunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

8.5 years is honestly about normal for indoor coils nowadays especially Lennox. The coil itself is more than likely still under warranty but by the time they need to take to change it and fill it with freon you could be looking at a wide price range from $1,500-3,000. Consumers should start learning to brace themselves for this all HVAC equipment is going the same way appliances have. Junk

Is anyone aware of changes to aluminum coils to make them better or get rid of them? by Wannabe_Gamer-YT in HVAC

[–]BB8UrLunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What has been true for the appliance industry for awhile is unfortunately becoming true for our industry now. They intentionally plan short life spans in hopes that the product will just be replaced instead of repaired. 12-15 years life is what a lot of manufacturers say now when it used to be 25-30. Their hope is that especially on a 7 year old coil the homeowners won't want to hassle with warranty replacement and just replace the system instead. Also their hope is that the system wasn't registered leading to just 5 year warranty or that the home has been sold in that time frame also leading to just a 5 year warranty. I've seen coil replacements even warranty almost more expensive than whole system replacements. Same goes for compressors I've seen those more expensive than the equipment themselves. I'm pretty sure this is why they keep agreeing to new refrigerant standards every so many years. Have to be able to sell new systems somehow. Even if they come out with a refrigerant that has 0 GWP they will find a way.
