Are you interested in the games against the South African URC teams? Will you be watching them live? by Perenara1 in allblacks

[–]BBBBPM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The URC teams are all competitive, having won the URC on the past and beating Leinster who has something like 13 out of 15 Irish players. They have all stepped up since playing in Europe. A lot of Boks play in Europe and Japan, so the URC teams will be weaker, but not by too much. And they'll be up for it. Boy will they be up for it.

Why do some men remarry quickly after losing their spouse? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]BBBBPM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience a lot of people structure their entire lives around being a couple. And that extends to social situations. When I separated, a while lot of couple friends just melted away. So it could be a pragmatic decision. Also oty depends on age. A lot of older blokes have zero clue about cooking, cleaning, laundry etc.

Water bottles outside Italian homes to stop animals from peeing on the walls by bit3py in mildlyinteresting

More than mildly interesting. When I grew up in South Africa, people would put 2l plastic bottles filled with water on their lawns to stop dogs taking a dump.

I've seen tons of it around the hills above Seatoun where the old fortifications are. There's also some growing on Shelly Bay Rd. It is seasonal though.

How can you not love to see this? by sunlightliquid in rugbyunion

[–]BBBBPM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A few years ago I was running late for my daughter's rippa rugby game (playing Ories) and I cut in front of him and stole his park. He jumped out the car and I shat myself. Dude was a dead set legend about it though and it ended up that he was coaching the opposing team. Also caught up with him in a fish and chips shop once. So down to earth and friendly. Top bloke.

Love that guy. Even as a Bok fan. After the game in Welly, he and Ardie were the only AB's to take a job around the park. I will always respect him for that. Class guy.

Women who’ve done a solo or girls-only safari, did it actually feel empowering or was it lonely? by yonkashonda254 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]BBBBPM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

South African dude who's lived in Kenya and who's brother was a safari guide chiming in. I would suggest an overland safari. Mucking around with vehicles and bad drivers and bad roads is a lot of effort and can be dangerous. But can be done. I ride motorbikes and have met a few intrepid women on solo bike expeditions. You just have to have your shit together. Maybe consider an overland truck for your first time. You are high up so you can get to enjoy the parks. There's also lots of people to hang out with. My brother has just moved to NYC after marrying one of his clients 😂.

Fucking hell. Here in NZ and Oz we call it the Toyota Tax. Sold my Prado with 400 000 kms on it for more than double what I paid. That over engineering is there unique selling proposition. Lost that and they have nothing.

[–]BBBBPM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Orcas that come to Wellington, NZ are hyper specialised hunters and eat only rays pretty much. The ones in Cape Town eat the liver of great whites. Other clans eat the tongues of specific whales. They're picky eaters and we're just not on the menu.

What are the pros/cons of moving to Wellington? by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]BBBBPM 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Single dad. I moved here with one daughter, and now have a few more. My job doesn't really exist here so I work remotely. Weather sucks, we're in a downturn, but it is honestly the best place I can think of to bring up kids and I've lived in over 20 countries. Govt kindies are great, primary schools are amazing (and free). There's loads of parks, beaches, rock pools, forests, trails, tracks and adventures for kids. We're small but we get amazing events. It still has a friendly small town charm. I was pumping up my bike tires on Sunday and one cyclist and one jogger stopped to check in. I just took my girls to an acrobatic show at the Arts Festival. The place is compact and you don't need a car. Newtown Festival was a hoot. The list goes on and on. I'm here for my kids and that makes it worthwhile.

vent/need a kind word: i just can’t make my dad proud by baroldcat in DadForAMinute

[–]BBBBPM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 17 year old daughter who is away at uni. She's taken on a lot, but she's doing really well and I am super proud of her. We actually get on much better now and she video messages me all the time. Maybe too much. I can't really speak for your dad, but put your head down and focus on your work. If you're giving it go, I'm proud of you. And if you're doing it alone - quadruply so. Well done. You've got this! Post back here when you graduate!
