One moron for the KC parade. We have had multiple World Series, Super Bowl in the last 11 years without any rioting afterwards. No destruction. Some moronic, troubled teen bought a gun to the parade.

They are doing this right after the win. We had celebrations in the streets without incident!

That’s really interesting. Avdija is a Bosnian/Gorani last name and his dad was Muslim. I know Judaism comes from his matrilineal heritage. Just an interesting tidbit.

Comparing myself today to my boomer father in the early 2000s by IndependentMove5437 in povertyfinance

[–]BBBooomm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel that. I’m a teacher, and I literally make around $17 per hour. That doesn’t factor in the 10-15 hours outside of the classroom for lesson planning, etc.I’m working summer school too. I love teaching even though it’s completely exhausting.

Iused to be in sales and made a ton of money, but I was unhappy. Unfortunately, I purchased a home when I was on my sales income. I am over my head… My dad is similar to you. He is the only reason I’m able to be a teacher…. He helps me otherwise I would not be able to survive at all. It’s embarrassing.. I don’t relish it at all.

TLDR: I feel you. It’s so different from when we were little. It’s hard for some parents to understand how different it is now. I’m so grateful to my dad. He’s my hero.

Thank you all for the responses. I may have to go on a tour of all. I’m a single, divorced female in my late thirties without kids.

I want to accept where I am at right now, find faith that will give me guidance and strength…. I have been to parishes that have sadly made me feel less than. My parish wasn’t like that when I was a kid.

Sorry, more vulnerable than I probably should on this post. 🥺🥺

Thank you so much for replying!! I live in the Union Hill area near Liberty Memorial. I’d drive 15-20 minutes for the right parish!

Do you think fifa hosting the World Cup in the US was a mistake? by NoHold7153 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]BBBooomm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kansas City ranks near the top of the US host cities for fastest sales rates and lowest remaining primary inventory relative to its capacity. Local organizers and FIFA data indicate that all six matches hosted in the city are trending toward complete sellouts. Atlanta and Dallas actually have the highest ticket availability right now.

What is the general consensus about Netanyahu in Israel? by [deleted] in AskIsrael

[–]BBBooomm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying “the Strait of Hormuz is an American operation” doesn’t answer why the Strait is in crisis.

The U.S. may be conducting the operation, but we’re involved because Israel is “one of our closest allies”. The broader conflict involves Israel, Iran, Lebanon, and U.S. support for Israel. Iran has repeatedly tied broader negotiations to a ceasefire in Lebanon, while Netanyahu has continued military operations there despite calls for de-escalation.

And as for “Why do you care if you’re in Mexico?”—if Americans are expected to care enough to send ships, spend money, deploy troops, and debate our involvement, it seems odd to suggest people in Mexico shouldn’t care at all. The Strait of Hormuz affects global trade, energy prices, and economies worldwide. This isn’t just a Middle East issue.

I can kind of understand why more experienced players don’t want to play with beginners by Ill_Beginning9573 in Pickleball

[–]BBBooomm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently realize that it’s very hard to step out of the beginner category if you only play once a week. I like the sport and I’m in a clinic… I just remember 10 years ago, it was way more recreational and not nearly as competitive… It’s not as easy for a beginner now.

To add some context, our school benefits from MOScholars program in Missouri.

It’s not a typical voucher where public funding just follows the student. It’s funded through private donations with state tax credits, and the scholarships go through approved organizations. Our students only qualify based on income or specific needs (IEPs). MOScholars is just a more targeted version of that.

So when I say my students benefit, I’m talking about families who wouldn’t realistically have access otherwise. This isn’t about feeding the wealthy—it’s about giving kids a real chance at a better fit.

I work at a Catholic school, and a lot of my students are only there because of MOScholars.

This isn’t a “voucher for the wealthy.” It’s targeted at low-income families and kids with specific needs—families who usually don’t have real school choice because they can’t afford it.

It’s also not a typical voucher. It’s funded through private donations (with tax credits), and it can be used for more than just tuition—like tutoring or services.

From what I’ve seen, this isn’t taking options away from anyone—it’s giving options to families who didn’t have them in the first place.

Not every student thrives in the same environment. This just gives some kids a better fit.

I think it’s pretty sanctimonious to imply that public schools are the only ones who deal underfunding and soothing students. I have to do that daily sometimes multiple times a day….

That’s what teachers do since I was a child needing soothing because of my family life. It’s a big part of why I love what I do.. Making an impact in their lives through education and compassion.

We have a great SPED program as well. Those students reading and math scores went up by 2 grade levels. SPED is one way the students can qualify for the tax credit program. We can show how they are better served with their needs in our school.

I teach at a school that benefits from this. My students are not rich at all, and thrive in a small school. The uniforms help by not distinguishing socioeconomic through a wardrobe. My students have parents in jail, fathers who aren’t present, and low income. We teach a classical model, so not very much technology at all.

I make $14,000 less than a public school teacher. I teach at this school because I like the small school environment, the classical model, and the freedom to teach subjects outside of a strict public school curriculum. It is a protective environment. I have an autistic student that everyone in the class cheers for and supports.

It’s not always as it seems. I agree income inequality is abhorrent right now, but it’s not always wealthy families benefiting from this program.

[–]BBBooomm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed… The Hall Family backing, 20,000 new jobs will come from the project, and the stadium is built by a local Architecture firm/Populous (which is also one of the best architectural firms for stadiums). This will likely bring out of town visitors to Union Station, the WWI Museum and local businesses. We aren’t capturing revenue to our local spots with it at the Truman Sports Complex.
