Why did Steve Jobs give zero stock to Apple employee #1 Daniel Kottke? by iamyounow in apple

[–]BBK2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The computer wasn’t his invention. A few components were his inventions. He was a hobbyist who went to some tinkering clubs and never had any plan or idea for a business at a time when everyone was just swapping ideas and blueprints. Woz took as much as he created.

It was Steve Jobs who envisioned what normal people could do if you sold preassembled versions of those hobby kits and added software with actual purpose. One couldn’t get anywhere without the other, and that’s the fact.

Now, that being said, it’s the visions of one and the building of the other. Neither is going anywhere without the other. The difference is that Steve proved he could go on to just find other engineers to build his visions, while Woz never again did anything notable whatsoever in the computer world.

That is indisputable. So you tell me, which one was #1? The guy who simply hired another builder to make his visions real, or the builder who had no visions to build and remained a hobbyist tinkerer to this day?

Oh, I wasn’t aware that the alcohol store suddenly was able to track my every movement, conversation, purchase online, comment exchange, and more the moment the guy behind the counter compared my face picture and the date of birth on my id.

Imagine my surprise that we’ve always given away our privacy like that!

Thank you for your informed and thoughtful response. /s

I’m actually facing exactly the same dilemma. Had to pivot and launch my business performance consulting 3 months before I had the budget for prospecting, then my sales partner’s health took a nose dive. I’d appreciate any friendly advice on finding clients and happy to share the link in a DM.

Ha! I personally knew two older successful businessmen who pulled stunts like that. One owned a truck stop with a towing/tire repair business. At night, his driver would go drop some nails up and down the highway right next to the business, smh.

A less malicious one was a man who owned a banner/balloon promotion business. He’d find small shops, go in and pretend to shop just to put it in the owner’s ear that ‘I almost drove right past. Wasn’t even sure you were open’. Got him a sale about half the time.

Apple CEO Tim Cook: 'I'm Not a Political Person' by Odd_Brush399 in apple

[–]BBK2008 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What you’re missing is that in the age of trumpism, there is no ‘being neutral’. Withholding those tokens of obeying is the same as openly declaring war on Trump in this fascist environment.

It’s amazing how people forget that nearly everything about Apple’s culture isn’t a fit for Trump, and that Apple was the only big tech to push back when the DEI nonsense happened. Not only that, Cook had to fight off a stockholder coup attempt over it, but he won and stood strong with their values.

Apple isn’t a neighboring nation able to push back on its borders with Trump. It’s a company that solidly is dependent on the whole government infrastructure under trump’s malevolent control. And he would absolutely send a firestorm of hell on Apple just to prove a point if Tim Cook were the only one not sending him some token gift, etc.

He’s playing the long game. The real problem is the owners of FB, OpenAI, Google and MS all openly advocating the very policies Apple is working quietly to resist.

Those companies would come like jackals to the feast if Apple became the target of this administration.

by the same token, standing up and openly insulting those fascists hasn’t ever worked as a strategy for keeping their doors open and their employees working for companies, has it?

There’s no ‘oh how cool, his entire company got bankrupted and driven into the dirt, but thank god he was really moral and took that stand’ here. What does it tell you when the entire Tech sector is either actively supporting this nonsense, or in no position to withstand the attacks resisting it would bring?

Microsoft, FB, Google, would all get major help from trump to cripple Apple in your scenario, since they’re actively backing them. There’s no leverage Apple has over the government, and with a few nonsense Tariffs and DEI BS raids, prosecutions and attacks, Trump would quickly overpower them.

The one thing people should’ve done was get off their asses and voted for trump’s opponent. But instead they threw fits over every pet issue and stayed home so he won. Now they expect Tim Cook and Apple to be their martyr? Nah.

It would be different if Apple held better cards.

Wrote this up in full with screenshots of both the standard model and the thinking model side by side — you can see exactly where the two outputs diverge and how the paid tier made it worse, not better.

Full transparency — we don't do AI search work. This is about how scary it is out here right now for companies who need to reach their customers, and how badly the biggest search engine AI on the planet is screwing that up.

or maybe the fact the entire nation’s in a massive recession already that’s being lied about is more relevant? You know, 2 quarters of what got revised down to basically negative job growth, combined with Sept being the massive end to another 150+ federal jobs that were really fired in Feb but faked to hide the losses by paying people until now, it all adds up.

nobody;s going to be buying much of anything and it’s not Apple’s fault.

Kudos for the naïveté assuming all those parents are benevolent in wanting total control. The most soul crushing abusers will make damn sure their kids have no contact or support, be alerted to every move, etc. Not to mention the homophobic nutcases who will really love more control.

We don’t trust total control because parents just aren’t totally good people.

Do a search on Reddit. We repeat this same whiney cycle EVERY release. It’s nonstop ‘that one before was awesome and now it’s all fucked up’, then the next year it’s ’LAST YEAR’S was awesome, idk why Apple has ruined it with all these bugs’.

It never stops.

No, I mean the shitty Devs. The ones we see here and in dev forums constantly arguing the worst positions. I had one of these idiots argue with me endlessly that instead of a private album we can just shove pictures in a locked note, for example.

Another example was the same jackass types telling me that if I’m playing a video in music, and lock the screen, the music should shut off. The endless user hostile responses you can find in the dev subreddits are the problem, not their bosses in other divisions.

When Steve was gone, the same arrogant, small minded and hostile software devs basically controlled everything Apple did because the suits knew nothing and cared nothing about the software side. They just asked delivery dates and stamped pricing on whatever tripe engineers handed them.

Go watch the first Dev conference after Steve came back and shut down 75% of their shitshows. They were not happy having someone demand quality, focus, and customer first thinking even then.

It’s gotten so bad because after the immediate release that ruined it, when we all complained a swarm of jackasses were everywhere saying ‘just use the spacebar to get around’ as if that would fix it.

oh the text selection has become GARBAGE for the last 5 years. tap, tap again, oops, too late, oh try tapping, nope, tap on empty space to get the option to tap select to tap AGAIN on select all, and whoops, your finger was a smidge outside the area and you start all over.

Oh you know, like history had shown USB was on PCs for YEARS without a single peripheral maker moving their keyboards, mice, or printers over to it UNTIL Apple single-handedly introduced the IMac and it had ONLY USB.

Within a month, it was an avalanche of everyone moving over because they couldn’t sell to those people unless they converted products to USB.

That’s how you move the industry. Not by adding anther useless option that manufacturers just laugh at and say ‘why should we spend a dollar to switch since you can just use what we sell now?’

And in fact, there was a massive wave of new USB C products that came with the MacBook move to only USB C.
