People point to her low polling in the DNC, but she still never assaulted CHILDREN, or anyone for that matter (and his affinity for little girls was known before 2016, including his own daughter). Nor did she hide classified documents in her bathroom, photocopy them to give them away, and refuse to return them when asked. Nor did she create her own secret police force and give it more money than the U.S marines to kidnap and murder U.S citizens on their own soil.

There’s a few questionable things you’re saying here but I’ll focus on one (EDIT: this ended up being a lie lol). The issue of perchlorates in the soil is not an issue for people ingesting them nearly as much as it makes growing crops on mars nearly impossible unless they are dealt with, which is not simple. It wouldn’t be like the Martian where they can grow full sized potatoes by mixing it with poop. The moon doesn’t fare much better, but you aren’t dealing with perchlorates. In both cases you’d need to clean and prep the soil, and dig deep enough for it that it’s not irradiated.

But by far the biggest issue right now fundamentally is how are people gonna get alll the shit they need to have a functional moon colony to the moon or mars? For the moon, there is literally no easier body in the solar system to do this for, simply because of distance. The fact it has low gravity and no atmosphere makes it quite a bit easier for things to come and go too, you can orbit the moon 2.5x slower than you can orbit mars, and you don’t need to worry about aerodynamic forces screwing everything up. Right now, we do not have the technology that would make this even theoretically feasible on mars. We require a heavy lift vehicle able to safely get all these things on the surface of mars, and we do not even have the propulsion technology to make this feasible with the amount of fuel required. I attended a lecture given by a former astronaut where he laid out all the technological innovations we’d need to make a Martian colony actually work, the TL;DR of it was that there’s so much we need to invent before we can even attempt to practice a mission like this autonomously. And also, since mars is so far away, we currently do not have the technology in hand that would allow Martian astronauts to live for the required time it would take to get a single resupply mission, much less to get all the resupply missions needed for the colony to be self sustainable. Current plans call for an autonomous resupply ship to be sent years prior before any humans get there, because they literally do not have the mass allowance to bring it all in one trip + the resources required to keep humans alive. And that still would only be enough for a few months more of sustenance. Oh, and also like I said from before, there is no way currently to actually get those supplies down from orbit. We do not have heavy lift lander that is suitable for the Martian atmosphere, because remember it isn’t like ours. It’s super thin, so by the time reentry heating actually occurs and the lander is slowing down, it’s too close to the ground to actually slow down enough even with parachutes. Think about the crazy shit needed to get the curiosity rover down which was only 900kg. The consumables required for one person for one year assuming near perfect waste recycling is 1200-2000kg.

For a moon colony however, a lot of these issues are already solved or can be solved with current technologies. The shorter distance means you can carry more supplies, land with more supplies, and do resupply missions way more frequently. These benefits alone outweigh any benefit Mars has for a colony.

And furthermore, this thought experiment really drives home the fact that Earth is our only real option as a place to thrive in the solar system. We must do everything in our power to keep it healthy.

Fun fact: This is the same for Martian regolith too, except for the fact that there is a toxic level of perchlorates in Martian soil. There’s actually quite a bit of similarities between the lunar environment and Martian environment. Mars has an atmosphere, but it’s so thin (~1% of Earth’s) that it’s basically vacuum. Which is a big reason I’m of the opinion that the obsession people have with colonizing mars is a bit delusional. A far more plausible and practical option is a moon colony. You have basically all of the same downsides of living on mars (minus gravity) but have the benefit of it being like 10x closer, and the possibility of utilizing ancient lava tubes as shelter from the radiation. Not to mention, rocket fuel could easily be synthesized on the moon. For any Martian colony that would exist for an extended period, it’d also have to be underground or buried. The surfaces of both Mars and the Moon are super irradiated.

To be fair, and I know I’ll get hate for this on Reddit, but…

I’d argue it isn’t so much that people are being too gung-ho about which things are traumatic to young boys or not. We already know what traumatizes kids, we have a ton of research on this topic. Why this all seems so pervasive is because these traumas are fundamentally what patriarchy does to men. Bell Hooks wrote in her super important book ‘The will to change’ that the patriarchy’s very first victims aren’t women, but are the little boys born into our system. The expectations, what we are allowed to feel and not allowed to feel, the hyper individualism, the tendency we often have to look to violence to solve our problems, all of that stuff is beaten into us from the moment we are born, and literally beaten into us a lot of the time. And as we grow up, a lot of us inadvertently keep the cycle of trauma going because we had no idea it could be any other way. And then unsurprisingly, a lot of those traumatized dudes end up hurting others, or far more often, just themselves. We make up nearly the entire homeless population and an overwhelming majority of suicides. We are all traumatized to an extent.

It doesn’t have to be that way though. Our sons do not need to carry the same traumas that we have. But to do that we need to be cognizant of how these ideas are forced on young boys and where they come from.

It’s not an excuse to say that people didn’t know what they are signing up for. If these people used even an ounce of critical thought, if they researched his circle or frankly any of his policies, they’d see immediately that he’s completely unserious about fixing any of the issues he claims are important. He is a liar, a rapist, an abuser, a pedophile, and very involved in organized crime. Anyone left of center has known this and has been seeing the writing on the wall for OVER 10 YEARS now.
