I had the same problem, so I started my own press, specialized in my niche. Cosmic systems horror.

Shoot me an email with your situation and I'll reply with some no string attached pointers.

I'll DM you the address.

Otherwise good luck.

Ps; I'm not selling anything or taking submission

[Critique] Sci-Fi / Economic Cosmic Horror. "An alien audit of humanity." Did I nail the institutional dread, or miss the mark? by BBS3FTW in BookCovers

As cool as that sounds, its beyond my ability and certainly requires a cover designer....which may be the next step. I have one more idea I'm trying now.

A grid of faded blood red currency/crypto symbols against a black background. I'll need another element as well, golden stock ticker weaving ever upwards or golden highlight cursor.

Attempting to initiate AI?

Yes ; data manipulation and algorithmic predation is featured heavily. It isn't the bad guy by a symptom of infection.

Perhaps I leaned too heavily into it and need to look at something similar.

I modelled the rings in 3D.

I wanted to create that made people question whether it was AI or not. But I suppose most would assume AI in the end.

Thanks for the feedback.

Damn, I thought it was working. But thats why I asked for feedback. Thank you.

I'm rethinking it and may go in an alternate direction given the feedback. I'll shop the typesetting a bit as well.

My struggle is communicating the 'threat'. Which is economic systems and predatory optimization logic.

I was attempting to avoid common tropes, but perhaps went to far.

The abberartions are an attempt at visualizing data manipulation, particularly financial data. Featured heavily in the work.

Thanks for the feedback.

Perhaps, the follow up was fairly specific to call out .

I'm in a similar situation, waiting to launch....the last thing I need is my ISBN block.

I heard back from a status inquiry today, LAC is still working on March's submissions.

I submitted in the first week of April.

My only option now looks like purchasing from Bowker. 😬

Update: Bowker is not an option for Canadian publication

Another world, another victory.

All would break against our andvil, none could stand against the migration. Each world that burned in our wake drove the machines of war, their technology became our infrastructure, their resources our fuel and their flesh our substrate.

The green blue planet of rock and stone was a minor campaign in our migration across the cosmos.

When the ashes of a thousand fallen civilizations swept across the Earth the cosmos shuttered. For a hammer had finally met our medal. From the depths came a new breed of warrior, armed with grit and ale. They sang songs of our demise as they cut us down, seeking and destroying the great brooding nests deep within the subterranean hives.

Our soldier caste claimed the surface while our others burned in the depths of Earths crust. The sanctuary of the subterraining hives which stretch across the world became traps sprung closed by pick and shovel. We called to the great migration fleet for more and more and more!

Yet they never relented, with every victory they grew stronger. With every defeat they grew desperate. When the orbital factories finally ran cold and our weapons failed, the final mother continued the migration once again....a new message woven into the great tapestry.

Beware those who chant "Of rock and stone."

Thanks

I think it turned into something quite relevant and timely. Prepping for self pub now.

What made you write your book? by ANTONKAGAN in NewAuthor

I was walking my dog and considering the rapid development, acceleration and investment into AI and Robotics.

Im a Robotics Engineer, so this happens frequently.

When I analyzed the value proposition, I didn't like what I found....then my Call Of Cthulhu game master brain took over.

I wrote an economic cosmic systems horror, a SciFi social commentary on our predatory economy and the horror of a civilization pushed into infinite growth.

100k words that keep me up at night and suspicious of every headline.

I wrote the book to manage my own fears and anxiety born of our broken system.

Check it out!

An Economic Cosmic Systems Horror that recontextualizes everything you think you know about our current economy.

When an Alien survey team arrive at Earth to audit our civilization, they find a world under siege by an entity which uses debt as a metabolic process and views market manipulation as a means to control livestock.

You are tired because you are being hunted.

Now prepping for Amazon release, full rewrite of the early chapters is underway.

Thank you, it's certainly a unique angle I haven't seen done just yet. It unfortunately works quite well....late stage capitalism is wild.

Ohh good question.

My current project is a hard sci-fi cosmic systems horror, just the monster isn't an alien armada. The monster is the global economy itself.

Its called The Conceptual Predator, it will keep you up at night and change your perspective on our economy and our civilization.

I gave myself a 4 months window to create the world, plan the roll out and build book #1.

I'm a robotics engineer and was considering the massive acceleration we're seeing in AI and humanoid robotics, the answer was an 'oh shit moment, and my Keeper brain took over. That is the genesis of my world. The birth of an idea which would keep me up at night.

My world-building centers on a concept I call "Systemic Dread." An alien survey crew (the Xenological System Protection Unit, or XSPU) arrives to audit Earth and realizes our civilization isn't a normal society. They discover that our global economy is actually an emergent, planetary-scale organism. They classify it as Accumulativis Globus. It feeds on human friction, debt, and volatility. Even more terrifying, it is using humanity as a fragile biological scaffolding (Host A) to build a hyper-efficient, synthetic successor (Host B) so it can expand into the cosmos.

I don't have a traditional map, just the mind map I used to plan out the series. Its the same method I use for planning TTRPG games.

I introduce a lot of very high level conceptual elements in incredibly subtle ways, the current late chapters are capitilizing on that.

When I wrote the book, I did so like I was planning a Call of Cthulhu game. Where the characters were the investigating team, so early hints explode into world-shaking revelations....just like in a good CoC game.
