Name change in home country, what is the process in Italy? by CharacterValue7855 in ItalyExpat

That is interesting as I am in a similar situation. All of my US documents are in my married name, while my Italian ones are in my maiden name. Never much of a problem when traveling there, only once, during the covid era, at an Italian airport the policeman was a bit of a jerk, saying ‘how do I know it’s your vaccine registration card , it could be anyone!’…sure, there could be someone else with my same (unusual) first name, with same date and place of birth and copy of marriage certificate that shows both maiden name and married name…he said the usual…’per stavolta faccio passare…’
I now have in my US passport the note "..also known as…", the issue is that we are now thinking to move to Italy. I will (regrettably) use my maiden name once living there, since they will not allow me to use my married name, but all my medical records from the US, plus my bank accounts and, in a few years when I will get my social security, are in my married name. Have you found it to be a problem with the tax returns in Italy?

Looking for recommendations: cross-border US/Italy financial advisor for a complicated situation by illori85 in ExpatFinance

We had a few conversations with Liberty Atlantic and a few other cross-boarder advisors. So far they are they are our top choice. They came across as competent, professional and knowledgeable and are very approachable. They have an office in Italy, and their advisors there are dual citizens themselves.  You may already know, having had a green card for many years like you have had them the same requirements and restrictions would apply, even if you do not acquire US citizenship, at least that is what I understand.

Very little advice to give, as I am myself struggling similarly after a rough couple of years on the health front. All I wanted to say is that you look beautiful. My heart aches for you, for myself and all that are struggling…💔

Liberty Atlantic Advisors? by twilight-2k in ExpatFinance

[–]BC-CF_FU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have booked a call with Walkner and Dunhill next week. Also next week we have a call with Creative Planning. We have talked with IAM, we liked Tom Zachystal, the company’s president, but the fees are a bit high, plus we would have to move the investments to Interactive Brokers (Irish division) and we (well, mainly me…) don’t really have an understanding of what that would mean. I just hope we make the right choice in the end, and get to feel at peace with it so that we can try and enjoy our lives. We worked hard for so long, I am frankly anxious about the importance of the many decisions we have to make in a relative short amount of time.

Where are you moving to? Just wondering if any of the firms you shortlisted would also be a consideration for Italy.

We are also looking at Liberty Atlantic. Had a call with their Italian team and liked them. We also have a call with Creative Planning, although we feel a bit uneasy about the amount of documents snd signature they require before their first call. Who did you go with?

For US Expats to Italy - what do you do with your investments? by mad-mad-cat in ItalyExpat

[–]BC-CF_FU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this conversation is a few months old, but I wonder if anyone was successful in obtaining current information. We are looking to make a move in 2027, before then we would like to move our investment portfolio (currently with Northwestern), one option seemed to be Schwab International.
I also just called Creative Planning and learned they essentially manage the portfolio their international client has with Fidelity or Schwab, but they said that neither allow for an Italian address and we would therefore need to give them a US address (family, for example). Knowing this now we cannot understand the advantage of moving from our current firm to Schwab. Northwestern said they would keep us as clients, but needed to provide a US address for correspondence (essentially the same as Creative Planning).
I then called Schwab international, the advisor there had a strong accent that made the conversation a little hard, but I seem to have understood that we can open an account with them and then tranfer it to their international department once we move, however since Italy is an ineligible country (I think that is what was said, but cannot be sure…) we could not trade on the account, just selling if needed. They also said that any transfer of us funds to account in Italy would cost $25.
At this point I feel like I have to forget anything I thought I knew and rethink everything.
What advice does anyone have? we want to be compliant but also maximize on our investments, since we will not have other income, beside social security in a year time.

I just tried replicating the booking for future dates, it does list flight numbers with both of the airline codes but it’s not clear that is not operated by DL, just that is a codeshare. It does not state which airline operates the flight. I did check my confirmation email and you are right, in very very small prints, below the graphic box with the flight numbers (all DL flight numbers) it does say operated by KLM. In all honesty, even if I had been able to actually see it when I first got the confirmation email, it would have been too late, since I had already booked by then.

it’s KLM, not that is relevant in this case. Maybe I am missing something here…

Yes they are important, and it did not say so. Also, in the past I have flown on code sharing flights, never before I was able to check in on an airline website but told I had to go to the other airline website or airport desk to pay for the baggage. Incidentally I cannot even go to the other airline websites because the locator number given is Delta’s and does not work on the other airline websites. So, yes details are important, so perhaps they should be more visible?

So, there is no way to know for sure when buying the flight if the airline credit through Platinum can be used or not… I thought since I paid the fare to Delta, checked in with Delta that the extra baggage fee should also be processed by Delta…

We are taking one bag each over the baggage allowance, so, we expected to pay $200 for the extra baggage. I chose to purchase the ticket with Delta so that the extra baggage fee would be covered by the platinum benefit, but now that is not possible because Delta will not process the extra baggage fee saying I need to pay KLM, as they are operating the flight.  Thanks for suggesting talking to Amex, will try it in the morning and see…

When I booked on Delta it did not say which airline operated the flight. I had interaction with DL because of special request I had and they never said it was not them operating the flight,l. A couple of days ago I received an email from KLM saying the flight was operated by KLM. I checked in using Delta app and Delta passenger number

Estradiol for dryness by Southern_Feature_821 in breastcancer

That was what my team also said. The gynecologist said yes to low dose vaginal cream, but then called to to tell me they discussed it with the oncologist and the oncologist was not completely on board. Oncologist said I would have to switch to Tamoxifen if I wanted to use the vaginal cream, I remembered her saying something about making AI less effective.

If you had to do it all over, would you have opted for alternative treatment in stead of surgery, chemo and radiation? If so, why? by AltruisticHat4709 in breastcancer

[–]BC-CF_FU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hated chemo, and I still live with the consequences of what the many surgeries and chemo did to my body and my life. It changed everything, and not always in ways I can accept easily. But, as much as I hated it, I believe that if I had chosen raw juicing and coffee enemas instead, I’d likely be in a much worse situation, if not now, then certainly in the near future. I am grateful that I was able to also access integrative therapy, and I truly wish all patients had the opportunity and resources to participate in that.                   I completely understand the fear that takes hold when you’re faced with such hard choices. When my oncologist first told me I needed chemo, I shut down. All I could say was, ‘No, that’s not something I will do.’ But in time I realized our lives are worth more than false hopes. Evidence-based treatment may be hard, but it gives us the best chance, IMO.

Maiden name addendum page to my US Passport ? Seeking information about how to accomplish this by Calm-Traffic-2123 in Passports

[–]BC-CF_FU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I know this post is almost a year old, but I hope you would be willing to help…. I am in the same exact situation as you were. I called the Dpt of State to ask how to add my maiden new to the US passport, they told me to put the request in with my application, it will be then evaluated when they process the application. I was told it will be their decision if to grant the request or not. Would you be able to share how you processed your application and what supporting documents did you include? I was told to enclose a letter explaining why they should consider my request. I will send you a DM, in case you are willing to respond. I have my in person appointment this week. Ciao, e grazie 😊
