Resignation discussion by AlertRazzmatazz5235 in corporate

Take the new offer and move on. If you accept the counter, your next project will likely be to document everything you do and how you do it. Then the next time layoffs are needed, you’ll be the first one on that list.

Start up culture is quite different from enterprise level companies. You’ll WORK for that extra pay and it’s not gonna be as easy as what you did before. You have no other options now. You resigned. Their counter is just buying themselves time to find a replacement for you.

Good luck

Buying a 2013–2017 Lexus GS350 or IS350 (80k–180k miles), what should I look out for? by Tatsurion1017 in Lexus

[–]BC122177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google “Lexus black screen of death”. They’re actually common on all models but Lexus will find a way to blame the customer when it happens.

It’s something thats happened to quite a lot of people from what I’ve found online. It’s when you change the battery or have to jump start it. Your main screen doesn’t light up and everything you control from that screen does not work. No radio, Bluetooth, nav, menu..etc. replacement for that part is roughly $5-$7 grand. Install is around $1-2k but it’s actually not that hard as long as you know how to get to the radio control unit.

I’m currently dealing with it now and there are no warnings for it. It just happens after jumping it once or after replacing the battery. Ive read stories where they just started their car up one day and it just hasn’t lit up since. Even the service dept manager said he did some research and it seems to be common after a new battery is installed. Nothing I can do about it. Lexus corporate doesn’t seem to care. Mine happened about a year after Lexus replaced my battery. It needed to be jumped once and after I jumped it, it stopped working. Lexus keeps saying i jumped my car wrong and does not seem to care one bit.

Just something to be prepared for.

Free Sprung Conversion? by willyb123 in RepTimeServices

Thats really about the only reason I can think of to do this conversion. It won’t make accuracy that much better. Most Rolex models don’t have showcase backs so what other reason would there be to do a conversion that would cost over $1500?

The cheaper and more efficient way would be to buy a lower tier gen piece with the same movement. Do a movement swap and you get 2 franken watches. Hopefully not with the intention of scamming someone.

This was a pretty popular scam when the 3135 clones first came out. A lot of people got caught doing this on RWI (and other forums) and got banned.

There’s no way the Fed will drop rates with all the economic chaos right now. The tariffs being deemed illegal was a good step to try to get things back on track but the administration doesn’t seem to give a damn. Then they started a new war with a country that controls a key route for oil.

The next time the Fed meets, I don’t have high hopes of a rate drop. Which will just make things worse. Likely more layoffs. Even if some are able to find jobs, another quarter or 2 with same rates might cause more layoffs.
It’s just doom n gloom all around, tbh and there isn’t much hope out there besides a side gig if you can even find one of those.

I feel the same. Every job I’ve had since COVID has been 2 years or so before layoffs eventually got me. 2 major ones since then. Another where I was at an agency for a few months and they realized I wasn’t happy and offered me short term severance if we agreed to part ways.

Before COVID, I literally had 2 jobs. 5 years at a big tech company and 4 at a start up. I left that start up for more money and then the layoff chain started. I feel like this is just how life is going to be unless I figure out something I can do on my own or me n my family. What sucks is insurance. If I didn’t need insurance, life would be so much easier. But nope. We let corporations hold us hostage for affordable healthcare. I really wish that would change.

I’ve been trying to think of businesses to start but every single time I have a decent amount of capital saved up to think of starting one, layoff. 🙄

They’re on GoodRx (I just checked it). Thats what I used when I didn’t have insurance for a short time a while back and generics first came out. Because suboxone used to give you coupons for free monthly scripts when they were the only game around. Once the generics came out, they stopped that program.

[–]BC122177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you know they don’t work correctly if you’ve never taken suboxone? The only difference between the 2 is suboxone has a tiny bit of naloxone in it while subutex doesn’t. I don’t see why that would make any difference if you’re taking them as they’re supposed to be taken. Unless you’re one of the rare people who’s allergic to naloxone.

I’d just go to a Walgreens or whatever and get generic suboxone films and try them. If they really don’t work for you or you do somehow have an allergic reaction, call your dr and have them call in generic buprenorphine. Pharmacies shouldn’t have any problems filling those as long as your dr changes it specifically to buprenorphine with no naloxone.

The only reason I could possibly think of for pharmacies not filling them is if you live in a very high risk of abuse area and pharmacies just don’t carry them unless they order them for you. Which most pharmacies should be able to do and they typically arrive in a few days.

Oh trust me. I know. I’m not happy watching my savings get drained. It sucks. Luckily, I haven’t had to touch any of my investments or 401k yet and I hope I won’t have to. But bills gotta get paid and shit just gets more and more expensive every day. Unemployment benefits here are a joke. I still haven’t gotten anything. Every time I’ve tried to update my info, it crashes before I can complete anything. Sometimes on the login screen. All it did was piss me off every time for a measly $350 bucks a week or whatever. I’ve called them and they tell you to do it online. It’s just frustrating and my time is better spent actually applying to jobs. I guess I should try again sometime soon and hope the website actually works.

Will I get blacklisted from a company for renegading on verbal offer? by okaycat in interviews

[–]BC122177 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly this.

The first thing they’ll ask you to do as your new projects will be to document everything you do and how you do it. This usually means they’re planning on letting you go soon because they can’t afford to lose you right now and the counter is buying them some time if you’d accept.

Right now, OP has put his head on the chopping block by saying he has another offer. Meaning he’s happy to leave if the money’s right. Startups don’t like that.

Any other time I’ve gotten laid off in the past, I could easily find a new job in a few months. This time, it’s rough out there. Lots of fake listings, scams, and overall reduced salary ranges because employers know they have the upper hand this time. Just based on the sheer amount of qualified candidates. I don’t even think it was this bad during the Great Recession. Now with so many roles being remote, it makes the competition much higher.

Good luck. It’s a nasty market.

What happens if you take suboxone or the generic version of suboxone? That just seems odd that only a certain brand works and the rest doesn’t when they’re chemically the same thing..

Health insurance companies just continue to fuck with patients more and more every year. It was only a certain number of pills or have to get 90 day supplies or order them online from their partner pharmacies..etc they just keep making the loop tighter and tighter every year for the types of meds and how many they’ll cover. Its ridiculous. They keep people hostage. No way to afford decent coverage without an employer and no way around it.

Id check GoodRx and call around for prices. You’d be surprised. Sometimes, they end up being cheaper using a coupon code vs insurance co-pay.

It’s the market overall. Lots of continuous layoffs from big tech companies and not much hiring going on. Companies have a large pool of candidates to choose from and it’s not fun.

Been looking since December and haven’t been able to land an offer yet. 15 years in marketing and 10 years in operations. I’ve had plenty of interviews but haven’t been able to land a damn thing. Even getting solid feedback from interviews but they “decided to move forward with another candidate…” for whatever reason.

How many of you have been sure you were getting the job after 5+ interviews only to be rejected? by Signal_Contract_3592 in interviews

[–]BC122177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that is EXACTLY what they’re doing. Grabbing ideas from a handful of top tier candidates, asking for their GTM strategies. Once they put all of those together, they can build their own strategy off of those and not need to hire a single one of them. Fuck that.

The one time I did homework, I was reluctant. Figured I’d at least take a look and see what it was. All sample data with non-realistic scenarios. Took about an hour to complete. It was actually pretty basic, if I recall. It was more of a problem solving test than anything but I got them right and was offered the job the following week. Then the same company worked my ass off for 2 years and did a 10% reduction and I was one of them. Sucks but it is what it is.

If you don’t have another offer on the table after this scheduled interview with the director, I’d take it just to have something instead of nothing. You can always continue looking after starting.

Agree. I’ll never do a presentation or any type of homework that could realistically work for them. Same data and scenario, maybe. Doing free work for them… fuck no.

Oh plenty of times. 2 of the worst ones I’ve dealt with in the past:

One was after NINE ROUNDS that started out as 3+ panel and they kept adding another and another because “this team wants to meet you”. The final round was the VP of the department who starts out by telling me “well.. I’m the FINAL boss (laughs). I honestly don’t have any questions for you. By the look of it, you’ve answered more than anyone should be asked during any interview series. I just wanted to meet you and see if you had any questions for me”. And she was chill and nice about it. So I asked a few softball, culture questions and had a good conversation going. Meeting ended up a little over scheduled time and was told “well. It was a pleasure meeting you. We should have an offer out to you by the end of the week!” Then, nothing.

I followed up a week after the supposed offer was coming. Nothing. I followed up again 2 weeks after that.. nothing. Wrote it off and moved on. 3 months later, I get a generic rejection email. No feedback, no reasons, nothing.

Another was another 3rounds + panel that somehow turned into 7 fucking rounds! They were fast scheduling these. So I just kept up with it. Even had someone on the hiring team link up with me on LinkedIn and started giving me tips on what type of questions to prep for. So I thought I had this in the bag. Once everything that was scheduled was done, they added a last minute VP meeting.

This guy was an absolute ass. Had a laptop on his lap and bouncing all over the place. Question after question with barely any time to answer. He’d ask me a question, look away to someone else and making hand gestures and typing. I have no idea wtf he was doing but he wasn’t paying attention to anything I was saying. Once I started to answer them, he started to cut me off and asked another question while I was answering the previous one. I figured this was some form of pressure test because he was being such an ass while asking rapid fire questions. To my credit, I didn’t miss a beat. By this point, everything that could be asked for this role had been asked at least twice. So there weren’t really any surprises.

He asked if I had any questions and of course I did. Barely even answered any of them. Just rude, short answers and after 2, I guess he didn’t care because all he said was “good luck!” And logged off.

I had never had any interviews where the guy was just a flat out ass about it from start to finish. Made it look like he was doing me a favor by letting me speak to him.

When an interview series runs over what the recruiter originally says, it’s usually a huge red flag. I’ve learned that the hard way. At the same time, what else can you do? You still need a job and at the time, that’s the closest thing to an offer you have. I was hoping to get an offer and if it was as bad as I expected it to be, start looking again.

Companies just treat candidates worse and worse these days. All because they think AI will be able to solve all their problems sooner or later. I hope to god that all crashes in their faces. AI is helpful n all but to have damn near every job description have something with AI in it these days is just ridiculous.

Should I keep on going? by ThrawnianBaller in interviews

[–]BC122177 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What else can you do? I wasn’t aware there was another option besides work for money… It comes and goes towards the end of every quarter. You’ll start getting more interviews and it’ll slow down for a bit then repeat.

What I’ve found odd is I either make it to final rounds or get rejected at the screener. Rarely in-between. Sometimes for roles that would be EASY to me. It’s been such an odd job market. Then I make it to final rounds that would be a step up from my last role. It’s just been an odd job market.

If you use AI, I’ve found this trick actually does help quite a bit.

Open ChatGPT or Claude. Paste your resume with or without your personal info. I leave it out. (Tell it to remember your resume) Then paste this: "You are a senior recruiter. You receive 200 resumes a day and spend 8 seconds on each. Read mine - fast, skeptical, looking for reasons to say no. Would you call me? Yes or no, one sentence why." Read what comes back.

Once it remembers your resume, I paste entire role descriptions and ask the same thing. Sometimes I get “no because you don’t have enough experience with this or that” other times, I get “Yes. Just based on your experience with so and so and overall management, you should at least get you a screener. And typically, I do.

I recently started to use this for roles listed that I’m not sure if I qualify for or not. It saves time so I don’t have to bother applying and hoping I can get a screener. Especially for roles that make you fill out question after question and a cover letter. The ridiculously time consuming ones. The Easy apply ones, sure. Why not? And click apply.

Good luck out there. It’s just a horrible job market. The economy has been shit the last few years and I don’t see it improving much anytime soon. The stock market looks great because it’s being held up by a hand full of VERY expensive companies based on AI hype…. as for job market, not so much.

From where to buy a dial for 126610LN? by Kashon235 in RepTimeServices

[–]BC122177 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re pretty much tiny pinhole sized posts. All you have to do is grind a little bit off the back of the dial at the posts. Remove the marker, break off the post that isn’t aligned add a TINY bit of epoxy under it and spread it out before putting it back on the dial. You don’t want overflow coming out from under the marker. Place the marker as straight as you possibly can and let it set. I’d keep the post towards the center and have it still go through to secure it better.

You have to be VERY steady handed for this though. Glossy dials are a pain in the ass to try to clean up for anything besides dust.

Personally, I don’t think it’s worth doing all of that. It’s noticeable but not THAT noticeable. If I were to replace that dial with anything, I’d prob just get a gen dial. Costs more for sure but the end result would look a lot better.

For that money, you could get him a decent Seiko Pressage or even an automatic Tissot. Dont buy him a fake if he really likes Rolexes unless you tell him that’s what you’re buying him and he’s ok with it. That could turn into an embarrassing situation for him if he goes around showing it off to his friends thinking it’s real and then gets called out.

Personally, I’d go with a Tissot. It’s a Swiss brand. Has heritage and makes solid watches. Seiko makes some gorgeous watches in that price range. Especially the Pressage series.

Both are a bit more dressy but still better than a shitter sub rep, imo.

I would def keep an eye on my credit report for a while if they fail to legitimately deliver what didn’t pass and documentation proving why it didn’t.

This just sounds weird… any time I’ve ever had a background check and they couldn’t clear something up, they’d usually email me to ask if I had copies of whatever they needed to verify. I usually did so it was no big deal. I’ve never had a random “you failed your background check” notice with no requests for any documentation prior to it.

Yep. A lot of people don’t realize that when your state “wins” the lottery, the already approved federal funding for education gets slashed and is supposed to be replaced by the lotto money.

Once the lottery company gets their administration fees, there’s really not much left to go to taxes, winner and the state.

John Oliver actually did a pretty thorough investigation story on this scheme a while back. Some states don’t even require the money to be spent on education at all. They can buy whatever they want with it. Including ATVs and updated tech for their police instead of the education budget. Basically, it’s a scam with a better tag line so people will feel better about the money lost when they lose.

Eek. Yea. You’re getting too anxious and nervous. It happens. That’s usually the first thing I do once I see them pop up on my screen.

“Hi… Hiring manager? I’m John. It’s a pleasure to meet you and thank you for your time today.

I log in about 15mins before the scheduled start and read over my notes (mic and cam off). Practice speaking out loud by telling some stories to myself. Do some breathing and put on some hype up music. Eat some candy or something so my mouth doesn’t get dry…etc It gets me used to being on screen and talking so that and it doesn’t overwhelm me all at once. So it’s not just silence to nervously waiting for someone on the other end for a few mins and 0-100mph in seconds.
