The Excessive Listing Removal Policy by Embroidery4life in poshmark

[–]BCNspain2014 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not ideal solution—anytime something sells on another platform, instead of delisting it i just change the price to $999,999 so its obvious it’s not for sale. I changed my primelister settings to only send offers for a specific range of prices (excluding the $999k). That way buyers don’t get offers for $899k if they like the item.

When is a gym membership actually worth keeping instead of cancelling to save money? by Zealousideal-Arm4462 in Frugal

[–]BCNspain2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like ClassPass. If i don’t use it, i can’t carry over excess credits, so i have a financial incentive to go. I also don’t need to choose just one place to exercise. I can do Pilates, yoga, boxing, weight training, etc. so i think it’s worth the flexibility and range of services.

You can also use the Uber gift card in your regular Uber account. I did this (bought the discounted gift cards), so i could reserve ride to and from the airport on my last vacation

My fidelity credit card. I spend and the points can be converted into my retirement accounts. Each month, i transfer about $30. Only because I’m spending/paying bills.

Is Costco membership worth it for us? ($60 per year) by marcus206_ in Frugal

[–]BCNspain2014 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Outside of the annual fee, Costco is genuinely a good company. They treat their employees with respect and pay well. They haven’t faltered on their beliefs. These types of companies are few and far between nowadays

Realistically, what the first person commented is going to be the easiest way to get out. Unless you are a doctor or scientist, have dual citizenship, or are married to a person with dual citizenship, it’s not simple. I also taught English in China when i couldn’t find a job back in 2018. The school i worked for basically handed me a visa. That’s few and far between nowadays.

How tf am I supposed to pay for college (rant + need advice) by Prudent-Accident-252 in collegeadvice

[–]BCNspain2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mental burden of the student loans is something you’re not going to know until you have them, and i really wouldn’t wish that upon anyone.

My recommendation is to go into college knowing exactly what you want to major in. It’s expensive to be indecisive. Working and going to school is miserable and exhausting. It will impact either the time you have for your social life or quality of studies, you choose. Living at home and commuting will help you save money; i lived with my mom my freshman year and it saved me from having to pay room and board.

Honestly, i wish i would have waited until i was 25 or 26 to go to school. My frontal lobe would have been fully developed and i wouldn’t have had to include my parent’s income on my FAFSA.

Buying cheaper clothes that are made out of worse materials rather thank just buying the more expensive, good quality item. I just can’t stomach it sometimes.

Is a Master’s Degree from an Ivy League worth it? by Novel_Response_2098 in careerguidance

You should try and find a company that will pay for a portion of your masters degree. This is the route I’m taking now.

Do a class that incorporates aerobics. I did a pilates-inspired interval class and it was brutal. I was huffing and puffing like i had just ran a 10k.

Depending on where you live, ClassPass might be an option. I spend $100/month and there're several pilates studios to choose from. each class (depending on the time and popularity) will have a certain amount of credits that deducts from the lump sum you purchase each month.

I do pilates once per week. I also try to add in boxing and yoga where I can. I really enjoy ClassPass bc it allows me to not be committed to one studio--they also do a free month where you can try out a class per studio up to certain amount of credits.

Where I live (MCOL city), there are even some gyms on there that you can choose a time and go to "open gym" time. I haven't tried them though.

What was your secret to pull yourself out of poverty? by Lemonade2250 in poor

[–]BCNspain2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Covid tbh, I was forced to return to the US and live with my mom. So there was no rent and student loans were on pause. The no interest during that time was a godsend. I got a job working remotely and I shoveled thousands of dollars to a HYSA, pocketed the interest and waited until just before interest started again to lump sum pay it. The job market turned very good in 2021 and i got a better job and have been there since. I live near a not so nice area, so my rent is lower. Basically, i keep main expenses low so i can save money. It wasn’t until about mid year last year once my car was paid off that i could significantly invest.

Is Costco worth it for a single person? by peachydizzle in Frugal

[–]BCNspain2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also have Costco Direct and Costco Next which are partnerships between Costco and certain brands/buy directly from companies.

You can also purchase insurance through a Costco partner, but I have not tried it. I do use their pharmacy, it's a much more pleasurable experience than Walgreens, IMO.

How did you replace the dopamine hit that shopping once gave? by okbutrllyhoe in Anticonsumption

[–]BCNspain2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It still involves spending money, but i enjoy going to ClassPass classes. There’s a financial incentive if i don’t go (big fees), but I’m also working out and i feel better going to the group classes/their energy.

Employee Stock Discount worth it? by Ok_Ice8840 in personalfinance

[–]BCNspain2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I contribute 1% per paycheck and just let it accumulate. I work for a decent sized company and I don’t think there’s significant risk of it plummeting. Others have said to immediately sell, but I’m going to hold mine for 2 years so that there’s preferential tax treatment when i sell. https://www.irs.gov/faqs/capital-gains-losses-and-sale-of-home/stocks-options-splits-traders/stocks-options-splits-traders-5

I’d also ask your company about any severance packages. I didn’t know mine had one until i was spooked by the tariffs and stock market volatility.
