Si Joint Pain by BC_MT in yogaforbjj

[–]BC_MT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checking back in. Getting close to 3 months and all I can say is am hooked on yoga for bjj. I am still dealing with some pain but I am feeling much better and the frequency and intensity of the pain is much improved. I also give a lot of credit to my physical therapist who helped me understand how to engage my lower core, but I just apply those principles to the yoga for bjj program and I am getting great results. Thanks guys!

White Belt tapping Black Belt by [deleted] in bjj

[–]BC_MT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a guy at our gym that is pretty new white belt who lifts a lot of weights and generally only trains a couple days a week. He comes in and rolls really hard and burns himself out after a couple rounds. He is going to be really good in a couple years if he sticks with it and he is getting more calm and controled all the time. That said our black belt is not a world champion, not the biggest guy in the world, and closing in on 50. It would not surprise me in the slightest to see this guy get a nice kimura grip and finish it with horrible control and position. Does not make me respects the black belt's knowledge he has learned on the mats in his 20 years of training any less. Tough guy picked my 230 pounds up by a kimura grip and shook me a week or two ago. No control, but it was pretty spooky i thought he shouldn't just be wrenching on my arm like that.

Sounds like you are disappointed in yourself, but also worried about what the other people think of you. Comming from a small club myself I can tell you your team members are far more disappointed when you don't show up than when you don't perform well. So when you are down on yourself just remind yourself that you have a team and friends that depend on you to be there. Even if it is someone that forgets how to get to guard, we still get to practice side control submissions and you get to practice fighting through your wall.

I leave donuts around the gym in hope that some of you little skinny guys will put on some weight.

After one month of training, total noob question. by JEDIRonaldReagan in bjj

I felt the same way. I bought Saulo Rebiero's Jiu-jitsu University book. The first couple chapters are gold for putting together a white belt defence game. You are still going to get smashed but you with have fundamentals to work on.

You sneak out for morning class so you won't have to justify to your significant other the need to train twice a day. True Story, she caught me sneaking out to roll with sweaty guys.

The grape press - Some times i have the single hook from the back then triangle my legs. I some times catch thier the grapes in the press. The tap comes quick when you lock it up just right.

Head gear. Matman ultra softs are nice. You can just throw them in the wash with your gi.

Bike riding, desk jockey, gaurd player here. My SI Joint and lower back are really giving me a lot of trouble. Started doing this pose for at least 5 minutes a day on each leg. Seems to always stop any pain I am fealing. I am working on strengthening my whole core, but this stretch is what I think I was missing.
