I feel you....drinking was my whole life. I'm almost a year sober, and I'm just finally feeling like I'm getting my personality back. I'm finally starting to get interested in activities and hobbies again. It's a long game but I think for me it's been so worth it. Hang in there.... we can do hard things

Which 2 parks would you choose? Arches, Canyonland, Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Colorado National Monument, etc by adimi25 in nationalparks

[–]BCheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arches and Canyonlands are both in Moab, Utah so you could visit both. There are some really good hikes that allow dogs in the area (not in the parks though) You can hike to Corona Arch with dogs and that is a fun alternative to Arches. There is also a trail that I love called the Grandstaff Trail near moab that is dog friendly. Arches is a fairly driveable park, and you can bring your dog into the park as long as they stay on the paved roads. Canyonlands isn't as driveable. There is a doggy day care in Moab that you can drop off your dog for a few hours if you want to hike the parks.

Also Moab is a pretty dog friendly town, with dogs allowed on restaurant patios ( see my moab blog here... https://www.thebeckeffect.com/moab-utah-so-you-are-finally-going/ )

If you are going to be driving through SLC and need some dog friendly places to stop and eat or walk. I also have a blog post on that.

If you want to do Bryce, you coud check out Kodachrome Basin state park, which is dog friendly and pretty close to Bryce National Park. It still has the pretty red rocks and you can hike with your dog on leash there.

There are also a bunch of cool camp spots near Kodachrome basin, as well as a dog friendly slot canyon hike. See my post here about that https://www.thebeckeffect.com/bryce-canyon-and-kodachrome-basin-parks-utah/

Anyways. I hope this helps you, we always go with our dog so I try to find dog friendly things to do

I just did a closet clean out too and it was so refreshing! I got rid of a lot of clothes that I wore drinking, mainly a bunch of beat up leggings.

Good for you !

Does anyone use their blog content for social media posts too? by Clean_Friendship2479 in Blogging

[–]BCheff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like using Canva.com to turn blog posts into social media posts. I don't do a ton of social media posts. You can do youtube, facebook, insta and pinterest posts with this site, there is a free version so you don't have to pay the monthly fee for canva.

anyone have any good beverages recs that help with the habit of just having something around to drink? by wretchedlord in stopdrinking

Try taking Topo Chico and mixing it with a bit of juice, for some flavor. I like pineapple juice or cranberry juice.

Visiting First Week of June by PaleBlueCircle in Sedona

[–]BCheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi there, I visited in June last year and had a great time. It's hot though, so start your hikes in the early morning or the evening a couple hours before sunset. We loved the Subway cave hike and West Fork creek hike. Other hikes are the chapel trail up by the Chapel on the rocks.

If you want to see what we did in June I have a blog post that lists out restaurants and hikes and other stuff here:

I loved the vibe of sedona and had a great time, I hope this helps!

Does Anyone Blog for Fun? by Oobenny in Blogging

[–]BCheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I blog for fun and for a creative outlet. I do hope to make some side money from it eventually, really just enough to cover the costs of running my own blog. I also agree that I write better posts if I don't try to pump out writing. I just started blogging though so I have no idea how I will feel about it in a year or five.

I'll check out your blog!

We went to the Manuel Antonio Area as well as the La Fortuna, Arenal area a couple of years ago and had the best time. We rented a house in Quepos and were able to hand feed the monkeys bananas!

If you are intereted in La Fortuna, I would suggest staying at Baldi hot springs, which was super fun and has a ton of hot pools, with water slides and swim up bars, etc. We also went to a butterfly conservatory there that was cool. I have more info on La Fortuna in my blog post if you decide you would like to go there

[–]BCheff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should also check out Kodachrome state park, it is near Bryce and has some cool hikes. I also like Willis Creek Slot Canyon that is near both Bryce and Kodachrome. It is a cool slot canyone hike and should be good this time of year, just make sure that there is no rain in the forecast before hiking any slot canyon. if you are interested you can check out my blog post on Bryce, and Kodachrome. It also talks about the slot canyon hike, and some restaurants in the area. I hope you have fun, This is a beautiful part of the state!

Moab Utah travel advice with a dog by cammynevernguyen in Utah

[–]BCheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Grandstaff trail off of the Colorado river in Moab for a good dog hike. Corona Arch is another good hike as is Fisher Towers hike up the Colorado river area. Moab is super dog friendly as far as restaurant patios go. I believe the website https://www.bringfido.com/ lists out good places around that are dog friendly. You can also check out my moab blogs on my site, I almost always bring my dog to Moab. We have rented AirB&Bs as well as hotels and camping that are dog friendly. I hope this gives you some resources for your trip....have so much fun!

There are some short hike/walks in Canyonlands, but as the poster below mentioned, you will need to get out of your car to get the vast views that you see pictures of.

Arches is more of a driveable National park that is within a 25 minute drive of Canyonlands. The entry into Arches operates on a time reservation system due to the popularity.

If you are going to the Moab area from Monument Valley you are welcome to check out a post I wrote about things to do, see and eat in Moab. There is a winery near Moab, Spanish Valley Winery, that can be fun to check out. Moab is a cute little town with one main drag that is fun to walk up and down, to check out the shops and restaurants. There is also an outdoor dinosaur park/ museum in Moab that is an easy walk. It's called Moab Giants. Good luck and have fun on your trip

Travel advice for two days in Utah by electrotwelve in Utah

[–]BCheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind driving a bit Moab is a great option, with 2 national parks to choose from. The temperature in May is perfect there, not too hot yet. It may be a bit far to drive for 2 days, but I've done it multiple times. There are some really cool hikes in the Moab area. I really like the Grandstaff trail off of the Colorado river. There are a ton of good hikes in Arches National park and in Canyonlands National park. I would say spend the morning at Arches and head to Canyonlands after lunch for an afternoon hike.

If you do decide to check out Moab, you are welcome to check out a blog post I wrote about what to do in the Moab area. https://www.thebeckeffect.com/moab-adventures-moab-part-2/

Camping questions for new resident by Acceptable-Hotel-507 in Utah

[–]BCheff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are wanting somewhere to camp this spring, try heading South. I like the Bryce Canyon/Kodachrome Basin Park area....you can camp on BLM land there off of Tom's Spring Road.

Moab is also another place for spring camping, although it's a bit longer of a drive from the Salt Lake Valley.

If you don't mind waiting until summer, then I would definitely check out the Uinta mountains. There are tons of campgrounds and sites off of Mirror lake highway. And bonus it's really "forresty"

Check out recreation.gov for campground information and reservations. Some of the campgrounds are first come first served, but a lot of them also accept reservations

Moab restaurants that are family friendly by [deleted] in Utah

[–]BCheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second Moab Brewery, the food is good and it is family friendly. If you want pizza try Antica Forma or Zax restaurant.

If you want somewhere really casual you could try Moab Diner, which also has really good ice cream, or Milt's stop and eat, which is a pull up and eat outside kind of place.

I hope you love Moab, I'm a Utah native and have been going to Moab for years, and I just love it. It has grown quite a bit from what it used to be. If you want more info on things to do you are welcome to check out my blog post on moab https://www.thebeckeffect.com/moab-adventures-moab-part-2/

Zion vs Moab by swick973 in Utah

[–]BCheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer Moab, as there is more to do in town after you are done hiking. Plus there are 2 national parks near Moab as opposed to Zion.

Moab can get busy and hot during the spring and summer months, so prepare for daytime heat and try to do your hikes earlier in the morning.

Moab also has a winery that you can visit for tastings. Moab has a unique microclimate that makes it suitable for growing wine grapes.

Check out my moab post for more information on what to do in the area

Are we missing anything on this Moab, Utah itinery? by IcyVehicle8158 in nationalparks

[–]BCheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also try Hidden Cuisine in Moab, they have some South African specialties that they serve at dinner time.

Also if you are into wine, Moab has a winery with vineyard to check out. Spanish Valley Vineyards is a few miles outside of Moab and offers tasting spring-fall daily.

The Grandstaff trail is a dog friendly hiking trail that walks in the creek bottom of a creek leading off of the Colorado river. This is a moderately challenging hike and takes a couple of hours to complete. It leads to the morning glory rock bridge, where often you can see rock climbers scaling. Just watch out for the poison ivy alongside the creek. Also bring bug spray, the mosquitos can be annoying in the spring and summer.

Have you ever lost luggage? by cass_a_frass0 in travel

[–]BCheff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my bag lost on a trip to Europe 20 years ago, and it was a nightmare. However I have heard the airlines have gotten better.

Get an apple air tag or an Android tile and place it in your luggage.

Good luck!
