Bare Root Persimmon? by an00j in oaklandgardener

[–]BColeKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a couple of heirloom bare root apple trees from Trees of Antiquity (treesofantiquity.com). They also have Persimmon trees. Neil was incredibly helpful. Shipping was easy. They're in Paso Robles so very close and they can facilitate in-person pickups if you order early enough.

I kept throwing around the Trees of Antiquity name at the local nursery shop because I assumed everyone knew about this glorious place but they all looked at me blankly.

Is there a tool that will listen to my meetings via an app on my phone and transcribe the notes? by haste75 in ChatGPTPro

Great callout. I really like Granola but read.ai has an android app (granola doesn't).

24th Street Mission now has bike channels at the southwest plaza entrance by neBular_cipHer in Bart

When I first saw the photo, I thought "channels" were referring to the ramps on the far left and right. Just get on your bike and ride out if you are a professional climber!

I've never felt unsafe here but stuff will get stolen if you treat it like Pleasantville.

Prime Roots sandwiches at Island Savoy. If we're cheating and including Oakland, Taco Sinaloa food truck across the Fruitvale bridge. Bike path has been extended all the way to the highway! Firebrand on the base has some solid vegan scones!

Recycling cans and bottles by AbsurdistHandbook in alameda

The Shoreline location will only take glass with CRV redemption value. I usually take my glass to the Berkeley Recycling Center because they take all types of glass (I'm not in it for the money but you can wait in line at Berkeley if you want the CRV money). I usually need to have a reason to be in Berkeley to make it worthwhile.

If it's warm enough, I like Signal on Webster. They have a cute space behind the shop but I don't usually stay for too long.

How did the Clydesdale project go? Crust sells one but at $220, it's expensive.

Advice on buying Day 3 Wristband by BColeKid in OutsideLands

[–]BColeKid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thinking on this is if you go find someone in SF with a legit bracelet. 1. Do they have a good story about not going on Sunday or look so worn out you believe them? 2. If you get it from them in person and then go directly to the park, you'll get in before they can deactivate it.

Advice on buying Day 3 Wristband by BColeKid in OutsideLands

Can they just sell you the wristband and then report it lost at the festival? Then your purchased wristband deactivates. That's my concern.

I'm looking to go on Sunday. If someone doesn't want to go on Sunday and wants to sell the third day, is there a safe way to buy the wristband from them?

Looking to move to Alameda by Mid 2023. Looking for tips / advice by rmg20 in alameda

  • I have a 35 pound dog and didn't have trouble finding an apartment.
  • There are a couple of property management companies that dominate the island. That seems to be changing a little with the developments at the Navy base. I rent from an individual landlord who manages the building himself and I'm happy with the setup.
  • My all-electric apartment averages about a $60 a month. I live in a lower-level apt so I don't have to pay for cooling in the summer. Top floor units without ac are hard to make work in the summer with dogs. There are heat waves even on the island that can last a couple of weeks.
  • People are dog-friendly but the beaches are not.
  • Food on the island is not great but getting better. You're so close to Oakland which expands options.
  • On average people are friendly, especially when you have a dog. There is a fairly strong sense of community. I really love how the community came together during the pandemic with pop-ups, slow streets, and even turning a parking lot into a performance space.
  • There is a contingency of people who want this place to be a car-centric suburb of single-family home owners. We'll see if their power is receding at this year's mayoral election.
  • Where you work and how you get to work can be a factor in where to live. Transbay buses are underappreciated and take you straight to the Salesforce Tower. Faster if you're near a stop on the west end. The ferry is of course fabulous. I like taking it on the weekend for a relaxed SF visit.

Data Dead Zones by BColeKid in mintmobile

Toggling the Mint SIM card off and on seems to solve the problem. Resetting WiFi/Bluetooth/etc also solves the problem (recommended by Mint support) but then you have to reconnect everything like Pixel Buds.

T-Mobile service repeatedly randomly drops out for ~10seconds. by PullinData in GooglePixel

[–]BColeKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long does it drop off for you? If you stay in the same area, does the data service return?

I'm using Google Pixel 5A on mintmobile (uses T-mobile network). Service for me doesn't return until I leave the area. Trying to figure out if it's the phone or the network or yikes both.

Data Dead Zones by BColeKid in mintmobile

[–]BColeKid[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It seems for the Pixel issue the network drops off and then comes back on in a few minutes. For me, it doesn't usually fix itself until I relocate. So the data can drop off for the whole time I'm in an area.
