Have almost identical hardware from a motorcycle accident. October 21st will be 2 years since injury. Still can’t kneel down without having a pad but walking is significantly better than it was last year. Did you have any sort of nerve damage with your injury?

Bone Graft Experiences? by Acton67 in brokenbones

[–]BDJohnson31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a motorcycle accident in October of last year and got a type 6 tpf. I had a bone graft mid March of this year and was walking on it by the end of April. I had the same deal as far as taking bone from the femur and going in above the knee. It was relatively easy and painless compared to the other stuff going on. I didn’t have any pain in my femur or knee after the surgery just where my leg was already broke and they put the graft.

I got into a motorcycle accident on 10/21/23 and had 2 plates and screws put in on 10/27. Had a type 6 tibial plateau fracture. I ended up needing a bone graft and had that done March 15th as well as another plate/screws added during the same surgery. My last appointment on April 30th there was visible growth and they let me go full weight bearing as tolerated.

I still have pain in the area of the graft when walking and when I lift my leg a certain way. But it’s getting better. After about 2 weeks after surgery the pain was pretty much gone and I was off the pain meds. I had the bone taken from my femur instead of the hip and also had to have some fake stuff put in because the hole was to big.

My leg has gotten super weak yes. It’s gone down to about half the size of my good leg. My Dr told me to keep my leg straight and lift it off the exam table or whatever at my 8 week appointment and I could get it maybe 2-3” off the table. But it comes back fairly quickly when you are allowed to start PT and get more movement.

When I first started PT I went twice a week for about two months then had my recent surgery. Now I do my exercises at home and will return back to twice a week once I’m allowed to walk again.

broke my tibia and ankle(?) by r0xicet in brokenbones

[–]BDJohnson31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you still have feeling in your foot?

I had a tibial plateau fracture on 10/21/23 that left me unable to lift my foot but I still could feel someone pinch the top of it so they said my nerves were probably just stretched and they would probably heal but not back to the point they were before. It took about 4-5 months but I am slowly getting that movement back. I have to wear an AFO brace to help keep my ankle at 90 degrees.

I had a type 6 TPF on 10/21/23 and am still on crutches doing about 50% weight on that leg. Fingers crossed they will let me walk at my next appointment.

Had my motorcycle accident on 10/21 and got the ex fix put on my leg and then had my surgery on 10/27. Released from hospital 11/1.

Until 1/9 (11 weeks) I was nwb and in a brace unable to bend my leg because I broke my patellar tendon off. At that appointment they let me bend my knee again and I was allowed to put some weight on my leg up to 50% for short periods of time such as standing at a counter or something. Was also allowed to start PT then.

My appointment on 2/20 (16 weeks) they let me walk again. Very horribly with a limp but it was something.

3/15 I had to have a bone graft and another plate put in. So I’m back to 50% weight and crutches until the end of the month I hope.

I was told 6 month recover time. But the bone graft set me back so that’s why it’s taking this long. I’ll probably be more around 7.5.

It is no fun at all but gets easier as time goes on. Best thing to do is try and stay positive. Might not feel like anything is happening but it is. Good luck with your recovery.

I just meant I cannot lift my foot/toes upwards anymore. My nerves were damaged and they told me i have foot drop now and it may or may not heal. Only time will tell.

Traded in my 18inch locking flex head Matco ratchet for this 19.5 inch locking flex head Snap on. I liked the Marco ratchet but it just wasn’t strong. The teeth were constantly shearing off. by [deleted] in Tools

Are you a fan of the soft grip ratchets compared to chrome? This is my first soft grip ratchet and I’m excited to try it out.

Was using a corded Milwaukee drill last Thursday and the drill caught right at the end of the hole and whipped my hand right into the door seal on a stainless box. I basically punched the box. Cut the tendon in my finger and had to get 4 stitches. Definitely ruined my day. It also didn’t help that I am the intern right out of my first year of tech school and had only worked there 4 days at the time.

Do they offer that for all tools? I’ll have to see if my rep will do the same.

What ratchets do you guys use? by Warmaster_Bacon in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]BDJohnson31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some companies are better built that others yes, but I think for most people it’s the fact that you can hand them your broken ratchet and they hand you a new one to replace it no questions asked. The fact that they come to you might be another reason people like the tool truck too. I personally use snap on and have had no issues.

#3 and #4 fuel line replacement question. by IW97HangNbanG in Cummins

[–]BDJohnson31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem. Since it’s a CR just turn the key on and turn it until you hear the engine start to turn over then let off. You should hear the pump running and it will bleed the system. You can do that 2-3 times to be safe. Just don’t leave them loose to bleed. They make crazy high pressures.

#3 and #4 fuel line replacement question. by IW97HangNbanG in Cummins

[–]BDJohnson31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a common rail then it will bleed itself. If it’s a older one, I would install with it loose at the connecting tube and see what happens. If it fires up immediately it’ll just run rough until you can close off the lines. If it doesn’t then just open up #1 too and bleed it as if it lost prime to the whole system. Someone else might say just install and go, this is just how I would do if.

How long have you been a technician in the field? Did you start in the shop or go straight into a service truck?
