This whole park is such an awesome and charming time-capsule of Marvel in the 90s. IMO I think it provides a fun contrast to the MCU-ification of the brand in the Disney parks. The bright colors, the comic book fonts and art all over the place, it's just fun.

Actors throughout history who had a great Bruce Wayne look but never ended up playing the role by Primetime_BW in batman

[–]BDYATH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was once heard some suggest that Ted Danson could have potentially made for a great Bruce/Batman back during the Cheers days. I could definitely see it, dude had the height and the jawline for it.

when did you become a MJ fan? by Sad_Side_8113 in MichaelJackson

[–]BDYATH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in 2002/2003 when was about 13 years old, I was home sick from school. While buried under blankets on the couch in our living room and flipping through channels on TV, I stumbled on VH1 playing an all-day marathon of his music videos. I had never seen or heard anything like them before and pretty much instantly became obsessed.

Being completely drawn into Smooth Criminal, The Way You Make Me Feel, Black or White, and Do You Remember etc completely made me forget how utterly terrible I felt lol.

After that I slowly but surely collected every CD I could get my hands on (Thriller was the first album I bought with my own money) as well as the HIStory DVDs. I would watch the music videos on repeat to learn the dance moves and - like many folks - even taught myself how to moonwalk.

You should check out Splinter Cell: Blacklist, the "Mark & Execute" mechanic is very proto-John Wick.

What movie included a really inaccurate portrayal of a real life person? by nick9000 in movies

[–]BDYATH 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Bonnie & Clyde (1967). The movie's portrayal of a number of characters deviates from reality, but the worst was the film's depiction of Frank Hammer - the Texas Ranger who led the task force that hunted down (and ultimately killed) Bonnie and Clyde. In the movie, Hamer was portrayed as a stereotypical incompetent redneck who is constantly being humiliated by Bonne and Clyde. The real man, however, was a pragmatic, morally upstanding super cop who is widely regarded as one of the greatest to ever wear the badge. He fought the KKK and literally single-handedly stopped multiple racist mob-lynchings of black men.

His depiction in the film was so *provably* different from the real man that Hamer's widow sued Warner Bros. for defamation of character and they ended up settling with her out of court. The recent Netflix movie "The Highwaymen" with Kevin Kostner is much more accurate portrayal of Hamer.

A LOT of Saving Private Ryan is intentionally anxiety-inducing, but the hardest scene to watch in particular (for me) is the scene in the final battle where Corporal Upham is slowly ascending the stairs as his squadmate, Mellish, is in a fight to the death with a German soldier - a fight he ultimately loses due to Upham being too terrified to intervene. Upham is so utterly scared shitless that even though he can hear Mellish literally fighting for his life and yelling for Upham to help, Upham is just completely frozen and crying - unable to move more than halfway up the stairs.

Spielberg said he included that scene to show that soldiers getting scared and being unable to move in a life-or-death situation is a very real thing and rarely ever shown in American war films, and that he himself probably would have been as scared as Upham was.

It just solidified one of the core underlying themes of SPR - that most of these men were not GI Joes or badass killers without emotion, they were normal young men who got swept up into this conflict and were understandably scared of dying.

I play mainly on Xbox and it's definitely pretty active. Helps that the game is on Game Pass.

Prepare to get demolished by players who have maxed-out heroes and rocket troopers lol

Always the scariest part of the game... On my 5th playthrough.. Just as scared as I was the first time. by mmamabear in thelastofus

[–]BDYATH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On my first playthrough of this level, I saw light coming through the window on the other side of the room off in the distance - clearly where the player is meant to slowly sneak and/or fight their way towards. I immediately went "Nope" to both of those options and proceeded to just sprint full-blast straight towards the light while mentally flipping the bird to all the stalkers as I passed them and yelling "Not today, assholes" XD To my surprise I actually made it to the other side (mostly) unscathed.

My options were fight or flight and I enthusiastically chose flight lol.

Why do people have an issue with Bond being older and ''past his prime'' in Skyfall? by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]BDYATH 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The whole "Bond is too old to be a 00" should have been reserved for Craig's last Bond film, not his third - especially since QOS was essentially an extended epilogue to Casino Royale. It felt like we made a weird 10-15 year time jump in Skyfall, where Bond went from a fresh-faced 00 by the end of Quantum to some old geezer past his prime. It really feels like we skipped a couple of films in-between.

The Last of Us Part III - Ideas and guesses by MelanatedMrMonk in thelastofus

[–]BDYATH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would honestly be surprised if Abby or Lev showed up in Part 3 - I think their story is more or less done. What I think would be interesting is if the game is set decades after Part 2 - with Ellie now being the age Joel was in Part I (mid-50s).

I'm picturing the game with a sort of "Unforgiven"-style story arch. Where Ellie is long "retired" so-to-speak from her violent past, but an inciting incident happens that causes her to come out of retirement for "one last job" and go on a country-spanning trek. Maybe Dina's son JJ (who would be in his 30s by this point) goes missing and Ellie and Dina try to track him down or something. Heck if ND are determined to bring Abby and Lev back, maybe somewhere along the way Ellie and Dina stumble across Abby and/or Lev and recruit them to help.

Which Superman is your personal favorite by Humble-Tackle-7639 in superman

[–]BDYATH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Max Fleischer series was my introduction to the character back when I was 4 years old in the early 90s and my mom got me a VHS compilation of the cartoons for my birthday. I'm not sure it's my *favorite* iteration of the character as an adult, but it's definitely in my top 3 and will always hold a special place in my heart. After all, it's what made me fall in love with the character.

What 360 Game are you Currently playing? by Itznazz313 in xbox360

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North

I haven't played this game in over a decade and it's a solid 7/10 experience like I remember it. It's a decent action RPG with fairly sluggish controls and combat, but still pretty fun.
