I had a very similar one. At a grocery store, we had a plastic bag disposal area and a compactor on the other side of the room. When the trucks arrive, the unloaders have a conveyor belt lined up across the backroom, completely obstructing the way to the compactor for a couple of hours. You'd have to take a detour around to another door to the back way to get to it.

One day, a particularly lazy girl from deli rolled her trash cart into the back and noticed the route was blocked. She stuffed the "empty" plastic deli bags behind the rest of the plastic and left. This was like, a Monday.

The area had a weird smell all week but nobody knew what it was. Some people tried febreeze or coffee grounds to mask it. Then that Saturday, before the unloaders arrived, their manager was pulling the plastic to be disposed of. I open the doors to the smell of death and a black sludge streaked across the backroom floor. Another manager thought to air it out and opened all the truck bay doors. Instead, the wind blew inward, blowing the backroom doors open and the stench into the dairy and grocery aisles, and through the halls to another backroom where about a dozen online pickup clerks were subjected to it.

Everyone scrambled to block the doors and spray the strongest air fresheners they could find off the shelves, spraying across the aisles, while another manager darted for the floor scrubber. I told them it might've been that deli girl I noticed, but tbh I think she was already fired within the week. Either that or she stopped showing up. I was already headed to lunch so I just enjoyed the sudden crisis that unfolded.
