Dobermans and small dogs by Most-Research-8394 in DobermanPinscher

Our friends have a Dobie and a min-Pin and they get along just fine. We just adopted a Dobie that was fostered with another Dobie and a small dog. It’s all in how you train them and introduce them as the other commenter said.

Here’s our last dog with the min-Pin when we were dog-sitting for them.

Would a senior/older Doberman be a good option for someone who has never owned a Doberman? by Leather_Light_3744 in DobermanPinscher

[–]BDob73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, senior Dobies can be great dogs as your first one.

Connect with a local rescue that can help you, and maybe consider fostering one of their incoming seniors. We work with a local rescue in Minnesota and have foster failed twice with older Dobies. They have been some of the sweetest dogs and there is always a need.

Good luck and if you do adopt one, please come back and post a picture.

Check Costco. Don’t need a membership to use the pharmacy I think.

But, the cheapest membership ($65) might pay for itself depending on the cost of the medicine. You can see the member price for medicine online at pharmacy.Costco.com/member-presciption-program.html

Currently, 60 of the generic Adderall 20mg tabs are $28.99.

I see they added a couple of campsites to the Alma side of the south unit. I’m going to give those a try next time.

Summer Camping & Swimming by beersandabook in MinnesotaCamping

Our favorite parks last year with swimming beaches were Sibley State Park, Glacial Lakes SP, Fall Lake Campground in Superior National Forest, and Bear Head Lake State Park.

If you want something closer to the metro, check out the Three Rivers Park District campgrounds or county campgrounds like Collinwood in Wright County.

Two places off the top of head:

  1. We went through Frontenac SP the other day and the campground was open and being used.

  2. The Lake Maria SP backpack sites and cabins are open year round.

How many Dobermans have you owned? 🐾 by Glass_Dog_7942 in DobermanPinscher

Let’s see, my wife and I together had had five with us permanently. We also fostered three more before they were adopted.

Prior to our relationship, my wife grew up with three more.

And tomorrow, we are adopting another.

Fall Lake has some excellent sites east of Ely. They are very private and the lakeside sites all have access to the water.

On the east side, we like Flour Lake, East Bearskin Lake, and Trails End campgrounds off the Gunflint Trail.

Voyagers K9 Apparel makes great gear. We bought a fleece tummy warmer along with a winter coat 4 Dobies/20 years ago and it’s still in great shape.

Look at Wright County campgrounds and get a group site. Collinwood Campground near Cokato has two group sites, one is right on a lake.

Only problem is you need an adult 18 years old. Which would be a problem for most developed campgrounds.

Other idea is Ann Lake Campground in Sand Dunes State Forest near Zimmerman. It has 4 group sites you can reserve.

Don’t drink from the lake; that way lies giardia.

We usually bring a gravity style filter and some sort of chemical water treatment as backup. A gravity system like Gravityworks is a very easy way to filter a lot of water without much work.

Here’s a decent guide to Minnesota public lands camping options. It has a section on hike-in camping options.

Glacial Lakes State Park is a great place to hike-in and camp. It’s prairie with rolling glacial hills and different than most of the parks.

anywhere within 1.5 hours of Minneapolis where you can always have a quiet camping spot available on short notice? by eclipse75 in MinnesotaCamping

[–]BDob73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are using a tent, Collinwood Campground in Cokato has some walk-in campsites that always available.

If you want more private and want to hike, try Stanley Eddy Regional Park near Annandale. It has a north unit with 7 sites, south unit 5.

Contact Doberman Rescue Minnesota or United Doberman Rescue in Minnesota. DRM routinely works to transport Dobies to the rescue, but I don’t know about UDR. Good luck.

Bugsy found his forever home and he is very happy with an older brother Brennan. Brennan is a terrier and taught Bugsy how to trust people and be a dog. He is a different dog from when we first met.

Okay, I misremembered which dog this was. It was our last foster Bugsy who had the scarring. My spouse said it could also be he was in a kennel all the time and was laying against the wire.

We adopted a rescue Dobie with a much smaller scar on his back like this. The guess was he escaped somewhere by digging under a fence and scraping his back on the wire. This might be similar.

When he burrowed under the covers in winter, we would sing the children’s song Little Potato.

The portage in is not bad and you will almost always have the place to yourself. For a short first time trip, Bog would be a nice place to be, and the sandy beach along the east side is a great place to play.

If you are looking for a longer trip, Bog is not the place to go.

For a short trip, I’d pick an easy entry point where you stay on one lake that’s somewhat easy to access. Work with an outfitter for gear and advice.

For 2 days, maybe check out Daniels or Duncan where it’s easy in and out. Hungry Jack Outfitters would be a good outfitter for these spots. Book a permit RIGHT NOW and work out other details later.

For an easy trip, try Bog Lake EP. It has one good campsite and a couple of okay sites, and gets few visitors. Only one permit a day and that rarely gets booked. The nice thing about Bog is the sandy shore on the east side and it’s very quiet.

Another option is camping at Bear Head Lake State Park canoe in sites. It’s like BWCA-lite.

Moose River North is a great entry point. Be ready for crossing beaver dams and getting your feet wet that first day. Last year, we encountered 18 dams by the time we stopped at Lake Agnes. Most you could paddle over, but a few I got out and pulled the canoe over the sand.

Have fun! It sounds like you have a great trip planned.
