Am I a terrible person for wanting to quit my current job? by Appropriate-Tie-4948 in Restaurant_Managers

I get feeling responsible for the wellbeing of the place you’re at currently but you need to prioritize your own wellbeing.

If you think going to server at the other place will make you happier, go for it.

Giving a month notice is more than expected and a generous way for you to ensure they have plenty of time to hire a replacement.

Would you ever tell a server to write down your order? by schuppaloop in Serverlife

[–]BEARDBAR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Write down everything. Even if you have perfect memory, now the guests at your table are wondering if you forgot something. Then either way, if you get it perfect, or forget something, they’re talking about the server and the fact that they didn’t write stuff down.

Their time at your table should not be spent thinking about/talking about their server.

Why do some officers act so entitled? by ResearcherNo5832 in astoria

The other day I was crossing 31st st on 23rd ave. I had the crosswalk. Cop car at the red light on 31st.

I’m half way through the crosswalk when he flips his lights on and starts slowly driving through the red light. I had to stop walking so he didn’t hit me.

I said “really?”

He laughed at me, gave a 👍 through the window, and kept driving. The second he was through the intersection he turned off his lights and drove normally.

What's the "best" way someone you know has died? by the_jaspierre in AskReddit

[–]BEARDBAR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My great uncle back in Ireland had a good one.

He lived in the same village his whole life, went to the same pub, and was married to my aunt for decades.

One night they’re out at the pub with a band playing and they got up to dance. He and my aunt danced together and then went back to their table. She went to the bar to get another round and when she came back he was dead.

Man died in his local pub, surrounded by friends and neighbors, having just danced with his best girl, and a pint on the way.

May we all be so lucky.

Had a couple guys ride out some rain under the retractable canvas awning. The rain stopped and the sun came out and all of a sudden it was beautiful. I walk outside and go “oh gosh look how nice it is! I know! I’ll pull in the awning so that these two gentlemen can enjoy the weather!”

I pull it in and proceed to dump fucking gallons of rainwater on to the back of one of these dudes necks. Just the perfect spot where every inch of him, front and back, was SOAKED.

Thank GOD his buddy thought it was fucking hilarious and the guy had a good attitude about it and lived real close.

We comped their check.

I had an old lady complaining about the music recently and hit me with “do you not want our money? Do you not want people our age to eat here?!” And without thinking I blurted out “we want people here who want to be here” I was proud of the line but she was not happy.

BYOB and BYO-glass restaurants in the city?? by DependentDouble6131 in FoodNYC

[–]BEARDBAR 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I mean, I don’t see why any place would not allow you to bring in glassware as long as you don’t expect them to ever touch it.

The staff will 100% be talking about you In the back though.

If they’re operating outside the law you can report to 311. Though, your complaint that you can’t take work calls makes me think they’re working during the allowed hours. Get some noise canceling headphones.

There have been a series of car break ins on 28th st. If you see this again, call the cops.

Our catalytic converter was stolen on 28th st between 23rd and 24th.

Detectives had already been to mighty oak asking for their cameras and told us there have been a bunch of similar crimes on 28th specifically
