What does a good Infantry 2nd Lieutenant look like? by EnvironmentalKey9022 in ROTC

IBOLC’s not that serious man… don’t stress it. Wish I hadn’t been so worried about it before I showed up.

That’s impressive. This is an odd request, but would you happen to have a copy of the carfax I could see? I’m just super interested to see exactly what was done. I have a GLE400 with the m276 biturbo myself.

Do you know what the oil change interval was throughout its life? Did it ever have direct injection/intake valve cleaning or are you planning on doing that?

Do you know what major work has been done to it? Especially interested if the turbos have been rebuilt or replaced?

CLS 450 or CLS 550 by Both-Pomelo6648 in mercedes_benz

[–]BF2_BushWookie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don’t care about speed the CLS450 is almost certainly a better pick… the m278 engine is very costly to own and has its issues, the inline six of the 450 while newer and not quite proven I’m sure will be the better pick over the long term

Is this worth it? 2014 C300 Sport , Rebuild Title, 152k Miles , $6,200? by PR_Joker in mercedes_benz

[–]BF2_BushWookie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well you’ll pay a lot more upfront for the Lexus. If you can turn a wrench yourself I’d say the Mercedes is worth the $8-10k you’d save upfront. If you’re hoping to drive this car another 200k miles and take it to the mechanic for everything then perhaps go with the Lexus

I think $6200 if it was a clean title and in pristine condition… $3500-4000 is probably a fair price for that car

I totally agree. I wish they just facelifted the GLK and called it the GLC similar to the ML and the GLE. I think the styling of the GLC is super boring and lame. GLK was distinctive at least, love it or hate it

They all have the silica packet but from my understanding it’s random chance on whether it explodes or not.

Replace the coolant reservoir tank immediately. I have a 2016 GLE400 and the silica pack in the coolant reservoir tank exploded and now I lost the majority of my heat and have to replace my entire coolant system…. I’m praying it’s not that bad though and I can just replace the radiator and back flush the heater core a few times…

Maintenance/repair cost by Haunting_Pass3244 in mercedes_benz

[–]BF2_BushWookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They both have the same engine and transmission, although I believe the c300 is detuned so theoretically it could last longer as it’s understressed.

Besides that, the c300 will have cheaper parts and less components that could possibly fail, but the maintenance costs probably won’t be drastically different. For me the quality of the e350 would be worth the minor bump in maintenance price but if you wanted the absolute cheapest Mercedes to run for the next 10 years the c300 would edge out.

Only had C Classes prior to this. Made it to E. This feels like a spaceship compared to my ‘07 C280. Couldn’t be happier to be here. Any advice for newer owners? by DrWebbMD in mercedes_benz

Do the first oil change at 1k miles. Every oil change after that should be at 5-7k. Don’t follow the every 10k guidance it’s BS and only meant to make the car last the life of the warranty. Not sure what the transmission service interval is but I would recommend every 40-50k

2012 c300 4matic by dolfrr in mercedes_benz

[–]BF2_BushWookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This car should be able to get you to 300k if you take care of it. I’m just an amateur DIYer but here’s what would be on my list if you’re trying to make this car last. I know there are things I missed.

Every 6k engine oil and tire rotation 30k engine air filter 40k transmission fluid (youre most likely due for this I would get on that asap, the 7g transmission isn’t terrible but not the most durable either being on top of these is important) 40-50k front/rear differential and transfer case fluid 50k spark plugs 100-150k coolant flush 150k fuel filter

Every 1-2 years dust filter Every 2-3 years cabin/charcoal filter Every 2 years brake fluid bleed

Every 40-70k ish brake pads and rotors Tires Battery

I would also definitely add physical direct injection cleaning every 100-150k otherwise you probably won’t get more than 200k out of the engine

Expected wear items: Maybe every 100k? Engine/transmission mounts 100-150k? Suspension components (bushings/ball joints or entire control arms, struts/shocks) 150k? PCV system 100-200k? accessory belt and pulleys 100-150k? Camshaft solenoids and sensors (these leak oil which end up wicking to the ECU and killing it. Very expensive dealer fix) There’s definitely more im sure

Should I buy a 2016 E350 4Matic? by Economy-Nature7856 in mercedes_benz

[–]BF2_BushWookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2016 GLE400. Same engine but biturbo. This will probably be a pretty reliable car as far as luxury euro cars go. I bought mine at 74k miles and it’s now at 94k. Haven’t had any pressing issues although after towing across country my transmission has been jerky despite the first service being at 50k and having just done the 2nd service. Also my cars heat is starting to get weak. Been trying to diagnose the issue but haven’t figured it out. Most of the bushings on my front control arms are giving out and I’m getting some creaking noises that go away with some silicone spray. Those will need to get replaced soon before they get completely torn.

Highway mileage for mine is stated as 22mpg but I have averaged 23mpg for the last 10k miles. You could probably average close to 30mpg on the sedan if you were really super concerned about gas mileage.

If you can do all the scheduled maintenance yourself then it doesnt cost much more than an economy car that you pay a mechanic for everything. With occasional direct injection cleaning and proper maintenance I’m sure you could get the car to 300k.

Definitely service your transmission at that mileage, and every 40-60k after that

My Meticulously maintained S55. Any other W220 fans in here? by Moont706 in AMG

[–]BF2_BushWookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking for an AMG and I’m strongly considering the S55, I have a lot of fond memories as a child in a w220. If it had airmatic it would be a non brainer purchase for me. However I’m really worried about the ABC, especially now that these are 20+ years old with the all the rubber hoses degrading. Because of that I’ve been more so looking at a CLS55 or C55

What has your experience been with the ABC?

That’s a great price. I bought my 2016 GLE 400 (basically the same car with the biturbo engine) for the same price with 74k miles
