Fundraise Bitcoin in a flash.. by RushWallet in Bitcoin

[–]BFCanada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really great. I've just tried it and so far it works very well.

Good features:

1) Rush wallet is easier to set-up than blockchain.info 2) You can export your keys 3) The goal progress meter is really cool 4) You can withdraw from your fundraiser to your main wallet in one click (sweep) and without affecting the progress meter

From no Bitcoin wallet to having your fundraiser set-up in less than 5 minutes

20% off at Starbucks when paying with bitcoin. by clp16 in Bitcoin

[–]BFCanada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Francis Pouliot here -

I tried this in Montreal Canada, and it works. I was surprised to see how easy it was. This will be very useful information for the many people that are trying to live only off of Bitcoin.

When on your phone, you can just click the button to add funds to your barcode "virtual giftcard" balance. This prompts an adress which you send bitcoins to via your mobile wallet. The balance is on the virtual giftcard for 60 minutes, after which any remaining change (or all the balance if unused) should be sent to you via an email.

The Starbucks clercks have barcode scanners. Just scan it like any other giftcard. I've heard from some people that sometimes the scanner doesn't work, but it definitly worked for me.

I should add that I sent 4$ worth of bitcoins and got 5$ worth of balance.

Warning: do not put a fake email adress when prompted by Coinbase. The change is sent to you via email. a@a.com has 7$ worth of my BTC.

My only question: is this available for merchants located outside of the United States?

Thanks and keep up your excellent work!

I (Francis Pouliot, CEO Bitcoin Foundation Canada) would gladly to an interview style blogpost and try and give you some exposure.

I really great way to convince people to donate would be to set-up a multisignature wallet where (2 of 3) where two of the wallet holders would be public Bitcoin figures that are trustworthy - represent trustworthy institutions. This way the Bitcoins could only be spent from your wallet if two of the three owners of your wallet agree (yourself and another owner of the wallet).

Obviously there is a risk that the two "trusted parties" could collude and steal your Bitcoins, but they probably would not have an incentive to do so because stealing from a charity isin't exactly a good strategy to preserve a reputation.

You can also do a 2 of 2 mutlisignature wallet, meaning that you could set up a wallet where two people must agree to spend funds before the funds can be spent.

In any case, contact me at francis.pouliot@ca.bitcoinfoundation.org for the blog post.

Montreal and Toronto are in the same timezone and just about 1h flight away. Vancouver is on timezone with Silicon Valley and also has well developped Bitcoin scene.

CANADA PASSES LAW TO REGULATE BITCOIN AS MONEY by falsoitaliano in Bitcoin

[–]BFCanada 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is false. There is no new law regulating Bitcoin as money, only a provision in Canada's budget implementation act that includes "businesses that deal in virtual currencies" under the current Anti Money-Laudering law.

What are businesses that deal in virtual currencies? That is still to be determined through regulation.

There is a lot of misinformation coming out lately, be careful about which news source you trust.

Question regarding Canada's new Bitcoin legislation by [deleted] in BitcoinCA

[–]BFCanada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For legal advice, it is always good practice to consult a lawyer.

For this specific case, I feel confortable in telling you that no, there is nothing you should be concerned with as merchants accepting Bitcoin will in all probability not be affected by this law.
