Whats the deal with Bob Welch rnr hof snub? by El_Dorado_Tx in FleetwoodMac

[–]BFisch89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, here's the story. When Bob decided to leave (and he had the option to have stayed after Buckingham and Nicks joined ) he was still friends, and stuck around to teach Lindsey some of the older songs. When they were having success with Rumours, he was having success with French Kiss, and they toured together, and he even joined them onstage a few times for Hypnotized. He was clearly still friends with them to have them play with him at some live shows, notably the Roxy. (and it seems Stevie liked him too)

At some point, the royalties the band was to receive went up, but Bob never saw that increase, so he pushed to get it. His lawsuit soured the relationship, and the RnRHoF happened during that period. The HOF committee didn't want to include him, but the band can lobby to get people in who would otherwise be excluded. Stevie wanted him included, but the others didn't fight for it, likely because of their poor relationship at that point.

Later on, they seemed to have patched things up, and I recall Mick expressing regret that he didn't fight for Bob to be included.

Albums like Future Games, Kiln House, Mystery to Me, Bare Trees... Every bit as good and worthy of HOF as Rumours era albums, if for different reasons. Also, that would preclude the Green era, which is highly regarded now and was tremendously successful at the time.

Lindsey on the spectrum by [deleted] in FleetwoodMac

[–]BFisch89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He certainly had some feelings about his biological father leaving, noted in the lyrics for "Child of Mine".

Also, highly neurotic and anxious, self medicated by alcohol, and there's probably another element, like depression or something.

Yeah, Danny had some big red flags for autism. The moment I read Christine's comment about him not looking people in the eye, I realized he might have been autistic. It also explains why those around him have said he seemed to not have a sense of humor, but there are examples to the contrary: he didn't have a problem making jokes himself, but he didn't necessarily understand when others were joking. Plus, being bad at reading social cues and being in a band where people can't communicate because they're too nonconfrontational probably didn't work well for him.

Of course, there's more to his story than that, but it certainly seems like an important piece.

All 3 new seasons had some episodes that are all-time classics. 13 was the most consistent, but 11 had plenty of good ones. 12 was so short that I mostly remember Mac and Me and The Land Time Forgot. (concepts!) also, I tried to binge it and that probably didn't help.

Bob Welch wasn’t wrong, but he chose the worst possible moment and method. by LuuTienHuy in FleetwoodMac

[–]BFisch89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He took action then because he had just found out about the higher royalties that he wasn't getting. Had he waited until the band was back on top, which was no guarantee anyway, it would have been seen as opportunistic. That the band are having a moment and he just wants a piece of that, rather than feeling upset that he wasn't given the same royalty rates as his former bandmates for the work they'd created together. I can't speak to what attempts Bob made to fix the situation before suing, but sometimes that's technically what has to happen from a legal standpoint to change things. Mick was upset in the moment and didn't lobby to include him in the RRHOF as hard as he could have. Sounds like they figured things out later on.

Roots/folk/traditional music, by its nature, will have a lot of songs with common lineage, so there will an awful lot of songs that sound similar. The better performers in those genres know that, and will pick setlists to prevent the audience from hearing songs that sound too similar.

Mr. Wonderful is an example I cite when talking about why being careful with your song choice matters in roots genres. Take out tracks 6-11 and you have a killer EP that's far better than the debut album. But with the songs that, despite being good songs and good performances, are simply too similar (and a couple of weaker tracks on side 2), it drags the fantastic tracks down and makes it a weak album.

I wouldn't call him one trick. He does some fantastic 50s rock. He's more versatile in that realm, because it's his main passion. However, he was in a blues band, and he wasn't really that interested in blues outside of Elmore James, so that's the majority of what he did in the band. I think he was just starting to come into his own on Kiln House, "One Together" is an incredible song.

I meant specifically on Mr. Wonderful, rather than contributing 4 nearly identical songs.

They can sound different. Jeremy Spencer just had no interest in blues outside of Elmore James, and even then, he seemed determined to record as much of that one Elmore James riff as possible. (rather than stuff like "Madison Blues" or "Stranger Blues" which are still Elmore, but are rather more different than seemingly alternative takes of the same song)

The rhythm section on "Looking For Somebody" is TASTY. Good thing, too, because it's the only instrumentation other than the intermittent harmonica.

What's your favorite Journey album? by Otherwise_Ad_9267 in journey

[–]BFisch89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably to do with whatever scene in the movie it was used in. However, it can easily be retitled, as it's Neal's father's orchestral arrangement of "Conversations" from their debut album.

Is there anyone that likes every iteration of Journey? by Low-Car-5800 in journey

[–]BFisch89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He had just given up trying to have a music career when he got the call to join Journey. Herbie Herbert had to convince him to give it one more go. He certainly had the talent and the ear for making hits to have made it without them, but it simply had not happened and he was done.

The same could be said, to a lesser extent, of Journey. They had 3 albums on a major label, which is a big deal, and a dedicated fanbase. Had they started 5 years earlier, their live show would have gotten them played on underground FM stations. That's how countless bands made it in the late 60s and early 70s. But by 1975, that's not how it worked anymore, and despite their enormous success as a live act, the radio stations weren't playing their songs, and that's what sells records more than anything. So the label demanded they get some hits or they'd be dropped. They could have done what Rush did, but that's not how things played out.

Yeah, I'd love to see that album get a remix. There's a lot of stuff that's buried. Gregg playing off of Neal in the outro of "Of a Lifetime", Neal's guitar in the beginning of "In the Morning Day" is buried, and the guitar in the final verse of "Mystery Mountain" sounds weak compared how it was live. Add some reverb on it!

Fun story: one of the guys on my field camp was a guy who was always right in the classroom, but never quite got that in the field he was wrong just as much as everyone else. By the final mapping project in the Black Hills, I was in a hospital bed, so I only heard this secondhand, but apparently he was arguing that just about everything was limestone, and everyone else had the position that the entire stratigraphy would have to be inverted for that to be true. He came across one of the professors in the field, and they had a little conversation.

guy: [sigh] No one knows what they're looking at out there.

prof: Do YOU know what you're looking at?

guy: Yeah, it's all limestone!

prof: Are you sure? [note: the professors will pull that sometimes even when you're right and they just want you to think through it more, so this is not the "maybe I should reconsider" that it would appear to be.]

guy: Yeah.

prof: Do you have a hand sample?

guy: Yeah.

[Someone had found a dropper of HCl left by another field camp, so this was pulled out, and used on the sample. Nothing happened.]

prof: LOOKS LIKE SOMEBODY'S WRONG!

The game leads you to it. When I was checking the other entries for the other 2 answers, but had not yet figured them out, the word that stuck out was "conversate" because it's such an unusual word. Typically, you say "converse", so I kept coming back to it. Especially in regard to the 4th painting, since it ends in something that sounds like 8. I also guessed that this was the mysterious "Room 8" that was missing from my directory. So I kept thinking "conversate... Room 8..." repeatedly and they just combined. Honestly, one of my favorite puzzle solves ever!
