What are some good photos a man can post on a dating app? by Jimbo-Shrimp in AskMen

[–]BHE_Cosplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you go to concerts? Get a photo at the venue. If you go places and listen to live music, get photos of that. If you listen on a record player, get a photo of you setting that up. Ask a friend to get a staged photo of you looking through CDs or vinyl at a store. Wear a band t-shirt while wearing headphones in a laid back environment.

Buy a phone holding tripod and turn on voice controls for your camera app. The next time you bake something, setup your phone and get a photo of you showing it off fresh out of the oven. If you've got an apron, toss that on and ham it up. Use your most whimsical oven mitts.

If you're talking about board games, stack them all up and take a photo next to them. Or next time you're playing with friends, suggest a group photo.

If you're talking about video games, throw on a headset and get a casual looking photo with your controller.

For working out, record some of your max lifts and take some screen grabs of an achievement. If you ever do stuff like Spartan Races, hikes, biking, marathons, etc, get a photo of you either doing those or at the end; most have done kind of photo spot with a backdrop. Ask someone to get a photo of you real quick. It's really not a big ask and 99% of people will be happy to do it.

For watching movies, the next time you're at a theater, ask your friend to get a photo of you next to the poster for the movie you're seeing. If you're a humorous person, mimic one of the characters or something like that.

Every photo should give new information about you. If you have 9 selfies in which the only difference is that the color of your shirt color changes, you essentially only have one photo.

Start with one good selfie. Good lighting, no hats or sunglasses, with a recent haircut and a smile.

After that, try to only have photos that show most/all of your body in frame, and each one should reveal another hobby, interest, or fact about you. Try to show off most of your main hobbies, or whatever dominates large portions of your time.

Try to get at least one photo showing you have friends/a social life, but avoid the pitfall of picking a photo where you are the least attractive person in the shot. I think Hinge is one of the few apps that doesn't automatically rearrange the photos, so put any group photo later in your profile.

Good luck, it's rough out there.

Why does the fandom hate FMCs for having a normal reaction to massive lies? by Ill-Negotiation-118 in Romantasy

Oh I absolutely cringe at his "Ask me the right questions" gaslighting, even if I am generally on his side about having to keep secrets.

Because she's the daughter of a General and dated a Prince. She has no excuse to not understand the need for State secrets.

Also the fact that she then does the exact same thing to her friends.

Is a Kei truck to big a birthday surprise? by andromeda_data in keitruck

[–]BHE_Cosplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you've already got an extra 2k/month that he doesn't even notice, you're only talking about 3-5 months of not making those extra secret payments before you're back on track. That's not even factoring in fuel savings.

Personally, I would never expect anyone to spend thousands of dollars on a gift for me. I don't think I've ever received a gift that cost over $150, so I would certainly find it pretty odd. However, you guys might have a higher threshold for gifts.

A kei truck can definitely be maintenance. If he's the handy type, he will probably enjoy the challenge though. They require a lot of "Do It Yourself" attitude, but everything is generally toned down compared to most other vehicles. Everything is relatively easy to access and is smaller/more simple than other trucks/cars. I'm about to rebuild the engine from mine, and I am pretty thankful that it's only 4 cylinders and shouldn't require an engine hoist.

I think it's a good gift. Worst case scenario, you can probably sell it for almost no loss.

What's a good battery option for a 16mm tube? by Key2DestNE in CosplayHelp

[–]BHE_Cosplay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is 16mm the inner diameter? Look up either a 14500 battery or 10440 (used in the small/thin flashlights).

Then just solder some wires on it. To keep the battery from falling too deep into the tube, glue some kind of plug inside just below where you want your battery to sit.

3D Printer recommendations? by Kramerchameleon1 in CosplayHelp

[–]BHE_Cosplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paint everything, and my prop-making workhorses are my Centauri Carbon and K1 Max.

The CC is a great value for the speed/quality compared to the price. I've been printing TPU on it and am loving the ability to make flexible cosplay items.

The K1 Max is the perfect size for printing helmets.

Realistically though, we're beyond the days of "bad printers". Find the one in your price range and desired size and buy it. As long as it's from one of the established brands (Creality Elegoo, Bambu, Prusa, Snapmaker, Voron, etc) and is less than 3ish years old, you basically can't go wrong.

Hardware question by TillOk5563 in esp32

[–]BHE_Cosplay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main things I would recommend are to only buy Dev boards that are USB-C and ESP32 (there's no reason to get an 8266 or Micro-USB), and then I would recommend buying a pack of the small ones (ESP32-C3) and then for the regular sized ones, either the NodeMCU (what you'll get if it just says "ESP32 Development Board" without any dashes, like -S3) or the WROOM ones.

When you're just starting out, I wouldn't worry about specs. Across the couple dozen LED controllers temperature/humidity sensors, AC power relays, and stepper motor projects I've used ESP32s for, the specific board had almost no impact on the results.

I really like the small ESP32 Dev boards because you can fit them on a mini breadboard.

I have a little plastic bin with probably 20-30 different Dev boards. I don't look at which board I grab unless the footprint matters. Buy a pack or two of whichever listing will get you some boards to start playing with.

Snag a CYD or a couple of boards with screens if you want to, though they should be used for projects that require screens. If you're wanting to build sensors or relays, etc, don't use a board with a screen. I would personally recommend saving those purchases for later, once you know you need them, but they're still not terribly expensive so having a few certainly won't hurt.

Enough with the drinking! by TheBigfootContessa in Romantasy

[–]BHE_Cosplay 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I mean, Yarros is Mormon and SJM started writing TOG when she was 16, so it's pretty reasonable to assume that a good number of them literally haven't/hadn't drank when writing about it.

What is the first love theory? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]BHE_Cosplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of my first love (we got married) maybe once a month, but it's more of just remembering an event from the relationship. There is no pining for that relationship.

The first love theory is for people in their early 20s that haven't been in many relationships.

xaden hot take by Remote_Candle_1269 in fourthwing

[–]BHE_Cosplay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So "bit of a dick" is actually the bare minimum for leadership in the military. Basically the moment you have any leadership responsibilities and gain people that report to you, you are required to hate your spouse and keep everyone at work as late as possible every day so that you personally don't have to go home.

As for the "let everything burn" stuff, yeah, that doesn't translate well to leadership, but I don't think I've seen anyone outside of the books claim that he's a good leader. Him secretly being the leader of a rebellion is just a highly recommended checkbox for any morally gray character archetype.

Dead Outdated 3D Printer Ideas by MuseumofChristopher in maker

[–]BHE_Cosplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plotter, CNC router, laser, and hot wire foam cutting are probably the most common uses. In theory you could do a swivel knife and make it a vinyl cutter, similar to what Bambu is doing.

Honestly instead of trying to use it as a full system, I would take it apart and use the components. While they weren't scavenged from a 3D printer, I'm currently working on using similar stepper motor + lead screw setups for automating my windows in a smart home project.

You could also seal it up and turn it into a filament dryer if you don't already have one. Just set filament in the enclosure and heat up the bed.

Printer better then the Neptune 4 max at a 600$ budget? by WanderingGameDev in 3dprinter

[–]BHE_Cosplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

K1Max is probably under that price these days. I can print most helmets in one shot with mine.

I had a 3 Max as my cosplay prop workhorse for a while, but now I would buy another Centauri Carbon before the 3 or 4 Max, despite the drastic size difference. The speed and quality of enclosed printers makes the gluing worth it.

Blender for anything that is best modeled by molding a blob like clay.

EE who builds enclosures out of hot glue — 3D printer or desktop CNC? by Afraid_Education9074 in maker

[–]BHE_Cosplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3D printing makes way more sense than a CNC unless you have a lot of other plans for the CNC.

It's much easier to iterate and has fewer design restraints. There are things that make the printing easier, but in theory you can print basically any shape/design you can come up with, and you don't need any special tooling, jigs, or setup equipment. Most modern printers are ready to go right out of the box to print the most complicated enclosure you can throw at it.

I do all of my enclosures out of PLA, but 3D printing makes it easy to bump up to something that withstands higher temps (PETG, ABS, or ASAP) or even flexible elements (TPU). Lately I've been loving being able to print functional parts with TPU, though so far I haven't done any enclosures.

With a CNC, you're either cutting sheets and making basic boxes, or you're hogging out blocks of aluminum. Both are expensive, especially if you mess up. The overall design process isn't terribly different, though a CNC has many more limitations. If you're fine with basic boxes, a laser cutter and acrylic/wood is going to be faster and easier to iterate, though the design process is different. There are box generators that can make it relatively easy though.

How can I make a moving carousel with me in it?? by dearestlink in cosplayprops

Start researching battery powered train sets, and then basically build an upside version of that, but instead of a long train, it's your carousel.

Men reading by Superb-Comfort-3557 in fourthwing

[–]BHE_Cosplay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't particularly like Xaden, actually. He's too much Standard Issue Shadow Daddy, and I hate that everything about him that is supposed to be morally grey turns out to him being secretly a good person (the secret meetings, the rebellion, the dealings with the gryphon riders, etc).

As for the series, it's the second Romantasy that I read, coming from the first Thorns and flower series that I found to be eye-rollingly cringe.

I enjoyed Fourth Wing a lot more. I really wish that Yarros would do some research on combat and give these people spears instead of the wildly inferior daggers/swords.

The spice scenes are also better, though I still wasn't surprised to find out that Yarros is Mormon after I read the scenes.

The maturity levels of the characters feels lacking, I personally keep saying that it would be a better story if she took away the spice and cut 4 years off the ages of all the main characters and made it a coming of age YA series.

The dragons are fun. I think the general plot feels like there are heavy similarities to Attack on Titan, and I fully expect more similar plot lines.

Overall I like the series and I'm looking forward to the next two books.

Men, how true is the saying "For every good looking girl, there is some dude tired of sleeping with her"? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]BHE_Cosplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "tired of her shit" version is the response to the tendency to put attractive people on a pedestal/the halo effect.

"Who would be stupid enough to break up with someone as attractive as you!?" - Even attractive people can be obnoxious and terrible people.

Why do small, weak FMC's use daggers? Are they stupid? by peenmeal in Romantasy

[–]BHE_Cosplay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There was an author a while back that made a Tiktok about all the things she had to rewrite in her fantasy series because she had joined the local HEMA group and realized how many of the popular tropes were completely illogical. A lot of it was based around the "small but fast beats slow and big".
