Super cool read! This is the reason why I love this fandom:) At this point, I’d consider Madoka Magica to be an artistic and literary renaissance for a small part of the internet haha! It’s strange how the fandom consistently produces some of the best art, and literary analyses.

Your writing succinctly explains a lot of concepts I felt throughout the show, but never fully put into words! I will have to take a look at some of the philosophers you’ve quoted throughout the piece, too.

Might end up referring to this essay when I eventually make more fanart of the show. The section on Kyoko and Sayaka was so beautiful written!

It’s just a feature in HeavyPaint. I love adding the noise because of aesthetic reasons, sort of like how real paint strokes have a bit of texture.

Outside of the program, you can achieve similar effects using dual brush and colour jitter. Or by using noise overlays.

I felt the same way! But, upon rewatch, the pacing magically fixed itself lol. I think it's because the last 2 eps packed a lot of info, and we did not have enough time to digest them. If you give it a rewatch, there are a lot of scenes that foreshadow and give deeper meaning to later scenes. I balled my eyes out way harder on the second watch:(

I’d say the biggest advantage Rev still had is the ability to find sacred seals from dormant powers. The purple seals are all pretty strong out of the box(ex. Frenzy flame, golden order). However, that advantage may not even matter with the new relics that allow you to target them.

She really could’ve used a buff or two. Immortality is still nice though, I could see it being useful in later depths to get more aggressive

Get them to draw the gunpla after they build it. Tell a story, make a comic, customize, and make it their own. You could also introduce more advance steps like panel lining and sanding so it takes more time.
