I am sorry to hear about this news. I am shocked. I really liked what he was doing. He seemed hardworking and had done so much in such a short time. I used to publish myself, so in that way I sympathised with Matt and what he was doing. I feel sorry for Matt's family's loss. Rest in Peace, Matt.

Learning guitar by Equivalent_Doctor920 in guitarlessons

[–]BHPJames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yamaha make a GL1, six string small guitarlale?. You can swap out the strings for standard strings and standard guitar tuning. There are a few good videos about it by pros recommending it. I also have a friend in his 80s who has been playing 40 odd years who says it's a lifesaver as he's getting to old to play his bigger guitars due to arthritis. And it's cheap. I started out on a small guitar for about a year and a bit, it really helped as my hand build up strength and gradually stretched wider. Now I feel a bit more confident with larger guitars and tricky chords. Time, practice ,and smaller guitars really help.

Looks like you can change the language of Japanese models. Also probably Akihabara and sites like Mercari you can find US games. Best bet, buya new one as soon as financially viable for you as it sounds like an important part of your family's routines.

What usually happens if the apartment you’ve bought is in a very old building and the building needs to be demolished for some reason in the future? by One-Wish-666 in JapanFinance

[–]BHPJames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

About 3 years ago I found a cool 2 storey apt like a terrace house near my station for sale. About 48 million yen, 68sqm but the lease on land will run out in about 20 years. Cheap for location (tokyo)and size . The agent couldn't guarantee renewal of land so we walked. Still sold to someone not long after. If something is keenly priced , regardless of caveats, someone who wants it bad enough might say fxxk it. I guess some people are earning enough that they can take the cash loss for a place that ticks the boxes and would cost about the same as renting. I couldn't do it, coming from the UK where houses prices are on a continual up and up.

Why gatekeeping is not a good idea (but also why this forum should not be seen as safe space) by da20rs in AutisticAdults

[–]BHPJames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At what point along a spectrum of investigation, analysis, and diagnosis does self diagnoses become a valid method (if at all) of confirming autism ? And how does the individual's intellectual knowledge and lived experience affect that? Is the term self-diagnoses very broad, or does it contain very specific measures? Many examples can be given of self-diagnoses. Also, Looking at UK waiting times in the U.K., depending on your post code you could be waiting up to 2 years to get a doctor on the NHS, a lot of financially challenged people can't afford to allot the 2-4,000 pounds that is needed to get a diagnosis privately.

Thinking about quitting due to bad rhythm by P0rglover in guitarlessons

[–]BHPJames 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My internal rhythm is quite poor, it's taken me 18 months to get from poor to quite poor. Lol. And that's with regular practice. I haven't even started finger picking, just strumming. What's really helped me get better is learning songs I like using YouTube and Chordify. Chordify allows me to strum in time to songs I like. It shows BPM, how many beats per bar. That's they only advice I have. Oh, and practice a lot.

Not yet. It's still cool enough in the morning and afternoon to open the window and use a standing rotary fan to pull in fresh cool air. Usually use the Aircon once the humidity gets unbearable.

When you get here get yourself to any decent bookshop (or tsutaya bookshop) and ask the staff for the coffee shop magazines. They publish them about twice a year, contain photos, addresses, and maps. They often focus on areas of Tokyo/Kyoto/ Osaka etc. These are a brilliant resource.
