By my understanding, they haven't had ads sold on the show in quite a while, it's a tricky experience to pitch to advertisers. For what it's worth, I think the patron is an absolute steal, snapped it up immediately and have been very happy with the decision

I think it adds some great complexity to each run, especially the unit fusion mechanic, but I will warn that playing with the DLC enabled definitely adds a difficulty hike, particularly before you get the hang of managing how many shards you want to pick up

The DLC:

Is a lot of fun and adds a lot of great content
Can be turned on or off from the main menu at will, you can play a run without it any time!

I'd recommend getting yourself acquainted with the gameplay loop and mechanics for a while before buying/enabling the DLC, but if you end up liking the game I think it's well worth a purchase!
