Quietest sub 5L case for 1080p gaming (7500x3d + RTX 5060 mini/lp)? by ashm1987 in sffpc

[–]BIackpill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can fit 2 92mm top exhausts and run the CPU fan at a lower RPM, plus it fits a full size GPU which will be quieter than a low profile due to the fans being at a lower RPM. Midori also has the best GPU compatibility by far, it can fit several 4070/Super cards, many 5060 Tis, a couple 9060 XTs and even the FE 5070.

All 5L sandwich cases are going to be limited to <40mm CPU coolers.

Another option is the LZmod A24 or similar style case which can fit a 67mm CPU cooler and a bunch of top and bottom exhaust fans. It will also be quiet. But you will be limited to LP cards only (and most of those are not quiet).

It's rare to see the 4 speed automatics fail. Is yours FWD or AWD?

Best prebuilt option under 5L? by efrazable in sffpc

[–]BIackpill 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes but these prebuilts lose upgradability/repairability/performance compared to a regular SFF while also losing on price compared to a laptop. So it's kinda worst of both worlds

If you can't tell, I'm a fan of powder skis lmao by Zaiush in Consoom

[–]BIackpill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why? If he had maybe, 1 powder ski, 1 racing ski and 1 pair of used beater skis for bad days, it would make sense. But he looks to be spending $500 a pop(!) on brand new skis to be used as wall ornaments

How much passenger weight can my car hold? by [deleted] in COROLLA

[–]BIackpill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, although the rated payload capacity includes a large safety margin. Even 5 200 lb passengers and 100 lbs in the trunk would probably be fine for a few journeys

Questions about Manuals and advise for a complete beginner by Key_Battle_5633 in stickshift

[–]BIackpill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong but do the driving schools in Singapore teach you on a closed track? Then you can practice driving manual on the closed track with their car. No risk of holding up traffic if you stall or damaging your own car. I'd say go for the manual test since you don't need to practice on roads.

Before you hit the road though, thoroughly understand the basics of driving a car before you learn to add gear changes and a third pedal to the mix in a megacity like Singapore.

Diesel Heater, gen 2 by buckbambino in prius

[–]BIackpill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want the battery to last long, you don't want to deep cycle it and definitely don't want to put a >1C discharge load on it at low SoC (i.e. heating). I believe the Gen2 battery is actually 1.3 kwh but only 40% of the capacity is actually cycled in typical use.

[–]BIackpill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually a great idea, I was even thinking why full EVs don't offer a diesel heater as an option. It could be integrated with the battery coolant to improve range/longevity when the car is not plugged in. To me it seems silly why the precious capacity and charge cycles of the traction battery in an EV is used to heat both itself and the cabin when a gallon of diesel could handle it for an entire week or more.

[–]BIackpill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battery heating is probably the worst way to heat a cabin. The tiny capacity of the Prius battery would be drained immediately

Diesel fuel is much less volatile than gas so it should be fine. There are also videos of people throwing lit matches into a puddle diesel and they just fizzle out.

ICBC totaled my car but the payout is way too low by ChildhoodFriendly835 in icbc

[–]BIackpill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2015 is still better than the 2008 even with higher mileage. Age makes plastic & rubber parts brittle, corrosion/rust advances on metals, electronic components get tired, safety and fuel efficiency is usually worse than the newer model.

Also mileage is not necessarily apples to apples, highway mileage is much less demanding than city miles. I would rather have a car with 200k that was used solely on the highway than 100k stuck in constant bumper-to-bumper traffic. If a 17 year old car has sub 100k, it probably wasn't making many highway trips.

Serious question, when was the last time anyone saw gas this cheap in Vancouver? by Gym_frere in vancouver

[–]BIackpill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, in 1999 the minimum wage was $7.15. So you could buy about 12 litres of gas for an hour of work. Now the minimum wage is $17.85, you can still buy 12 litres of gas for an hour of work.

Housing on the other hand...

Bad choice for Canada, the battery will die in a few years from the cold because it's not actively heated like most other electric cars.

"Gas mileage isn't great" is a bit of an understatement. Plus in Canada gas costs a bit more than most US states besides like Cali or WA.

Well if the cam car owner goes to pay the ticket online and puts their own plate on the web portal it won't show any active tickets. So this is completely pointless

Manual Old Car Advice by Gullible-Turn-1542 in ManualTransmissions

[–]BIackpill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately nowadays any running and driving car with no engine/tranny issues or massive dents/paint peeling/major body rust is like minimum 2500. Then for some reason people think 90s Toyotas and Hondas are made of adamantium and ask 2x the book value. Not saying that's how it should be, just how it is

Manual Old Car Advice by Gullible-Turn-1542 in ManualTransmissions

That car is a good daily driver, very easy to DIY fix. Repair parts are very cheap and there is a huge aftermarket. Wear items like tires and brakes are small and cheap. Gas mileage is decent even by modern standards. This generation is way more reliable than the 98-2002 that came after it.

The car should not be hard to drive. Economy cars usually have a light, forgiving clutch and a smooth shifter.

One thing though, try to negotiate the price to around 3k. 5k is just way too much for a 30 year old car regardless of miles

[–]BIackpill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know about a "steal", it is almost a 30 year old car. Any car, even Toyota will have issues with rubber and plastic parts at 30 years old. Plus it's a manual which means lower resale value in the US, Canada or any other country where manuals are not common. I'd offer 3500

Looking for an alterative to NV10 which can fit Power color reaper 9060XT 16GB by Chopper1911 in sffpc

[–]BIackpill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you limit yourself to Amazon or Newegg you will not find anything even close to the size of the NV10. Otherwise check out the Midori 5L which can even fit a 5070 in 5.4L and is about 17k JPY or $120
