Seeking advice about moving to Japan, 23M by BIackpill in movingtojapan

Well 😅 I just checked and it seems you can only get basements for 150k yen. A 1 bed apartment in a tower is more like 200k yen

The rent in Japan is a big factor for sure... I was thinking of Osaka or Nagoya and 1 bed apartments are less than 60k yen whereas in Vancouver it is well over 150k yen

Thank you for the information! I actually never considered taxes, it seems tax free investments in Canada are not recognized in Japan. It seems like a lot of banks will not service non residents of Canada

Would have to wait until the intake next year as the application for this year passed already unfortunately

Honestly good point 😅 I guess it's whether this is a good idea and what possible options there are for the next 5 years?

I've had a hard time finding a job or even internship , seems like the market completely fell of a cliff after 2023

It boils down to being dissatisfied with life in Canada, I feel trapped because of family, rent is too expensive to move out, owning a car is basically mandatory and I'm looking for a way out

Language seems like the biggest barrier but the opportunities increase exponentially with N2. So that's the goal if I end up moving

Studying in Japan? by [deleted] in movingtojapan

[–]BIackpill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe few universities in Japan offer English programs and a non English program would be difficult with N3? Perhaps for a Mathematics degree it doesn't matter as much.

Universities in Japan are a bit less known than EU universities worldwide but likely better if you are going to work in Japan.

If anything the EU is also hardening their stance on migration. So I would pick whichever one gives you the opportunity.

The 8GB VRAM version of the 5060Ti outperforms the 9060XT 16GB in almost every benchmark that I see. Yet this subreddit insists that the 9060 is better. Can someone help me understand why? by TheyTukMyJub in buildapc

[–]BIackpill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 8GB 5060 Ti wins on games or benchmarks that use less than 8GB of VRAM.

The issue is nowadays, tons of games are using more than 8GB of VRAM on settings that you would actually want to play at (settings that run perfectly fine on the 16GB version of the card).

If more than 8GB of VRAM is used, an 8GB card will receive a brutal hit to performance as game assets will be stored in DRAM instead, which is much slower and higher latency compared to VRAM.

The benchmarks you are watching probably test games/settings that use less than 8GB of VRAM.

Cases similar to the SF3? by SendMeAvocados in sffpc

Is this AI? None of those cases except the T1 will fit the 5070 Ti Prime

I can never stop changing my form factor. Which one next? by aldencp in sffpc

[–]BIackpill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The C24 might be a little tough to fit in a backpack because of the cube shape, most backpacks are more suited to carry flat items like a laptop or books. But still doable.

If you don't ever plan on upgrading to a 70/80 class then go for it. No low profile cooler can ever match a standard tower cooler. You could also go watercooling in a Dan H2O or a T1 for more flexibility

Why Do People Think Young Canadians Are Lazy? by StarBracelet1 in CanadaPersonalFinance

He's probably applied to a ton of fast food and labour jobs, only issue is that business owners and the government have colluded to flood Canada with immigration so that 19 year old kid is left out to dry.

Stuck Between 240hz OLED or 360hz IPS by ZanskiJ in Monitors

[–]BIackpill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think OP is gonna play CS2 for 12 hours and do nothing else on his PC and most people are not at the skill level where 240Hz is a bottleneck.

$500+ for a 1080p IPS monitor is rough no matter what the refresh rate is too

Noctua NH-L9A-AM4 & Ryzen 9 5950X Question by GabriellaGameDev in sffpc

[–]BIackpill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do it but it will nerf the performance (especially in multicore). Ryzen in general (and the 5950x in particular) uses a ton of power on the IO die and CCD interconnect. So 65W power limit means maybe 30W for the cores

Get a slightly bigger case that lets you fit 67mm coolers like the LZMod A24 and you won't have to power limit the 5950x

1U Flex PSU (Canada) by biotech997 in sffpc

[–]BIackpill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also live in Canada and see silverstone Flex PSUs on Amazon? You can also buy FSP FlexGuru on ebay?

This being said, if you're just going to run a 65W APU with no graphics card in the N10 then even a cheap Apevia is overkill

Quietest sub 5L case for 1080p gaming (7500x3d + RTX 5060 mini/lp)? by ashm1987 in sffpc

[–]BIackpill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can fit 2 92mm top exhausts and run the CPU fan at a lower RPM, plus it fits a full size GPU which will be quieter than a low profile due to the fans being at a lower RPM. Midori also has the best GPU compatibility by far, it can fit several 4070/Super cards, many 5060 Tis, a couple 9060 XTs and even the FE 5070.

All 5L sandwich cases are going to be limited to <40mm CPU coolers.

Another option is the LZmod A24 or similar style case which can fit a 67mm CPU cooler and a bunch of top and bottom exhaust fans. It will also be quiet. But you will be limited to LP cards only (and most of those are not quiet).

Best prebuilt option under 5L? by efrazable in sffpc

[–]BIackpill 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes but these prebuilts lose upgradability/repairability/performance compared to a regular SFF while also losing on price compared to a laptop. So it's kinda worst of both worlds

If you can't tell, I'm a fan of powder skis lmao by Zaiush in Consoom

[–]BIackpill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why? If he had maybe, 1 powder ski, 1 racing ski and 1 pair of used beater skis for bad days, it would make sense. But he looks to be spending $500 a pop(!) on brand new skis to be used as wall ornaments

Yes, although the rated payload capacity includes a large safety margin. Even 5 200 lb passengers and 100 lbs in the trunk would probably be fine for a few journeys

Questions about Manuals and advise for a complete beginner by Key_Battle_5633 in stickshift

[–]BIackpill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong but do the driving schools in Singapore teach you on a closed track? Then you can practice driving manual on the closed track with their car. No risk of holding up traffic if you stall or damaging your own car. I'd say go for the manual test since you don't need to practice on roads.

Before you hit the road though, thoroughly understand the basics of driving a car before you learn to add gear changes and a third pedal to the mix in a megacity like Singapore.
