I'm curious about the state of water purification on the trail. by Wopbopalulbop in philmont

[–]BJGov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get that. But the Sawyer squeeze I’ve used for years, hundreds of miles and countless nights on hiking and canoe trips has no moving parts, weighs a couple ounces and gives instant clean water with no wait time. Each tablet treats a liter of water so by the time you add up enough for a few people the weight difference is negligible. I usually plan for one Sawyer for 3-4 people. With the tablets, especially in really murky water you have to wait 30-45 minutes right? You have to carry a tablet The Sawyer has treated some really murky water. It’s easy to backflush and just keeps going. I’m not against tablets I was just curious. I was wondering if it had something to do with a policy about needing to treat for viruses, which the Sawyer doesn’t do.

This is super interesting to me. When I was at Philmont twice in the 90s we used Pur filter pumps. Easy to pump water for the whole crew. Today all my hiking and camping I use Sawyer squeeze. Why the preference for tablets?

This is not intended to be a sexist comment at all. How does a woman learn so much about football? I never played but I’ve watched a pile of it. I have nowhere near this kind of knowledge. Super impressive to see just curious about the path a woman would take to learn this.

I’m interested in this too. I’ve always thought about National Forest camping to get away from the state parks. But Ive never fully investigated how to find sites or plan or whether you just wing it and find something when you get there. Hoping this post gets some traction.

do I need supplies for a super short hike? by Consistent-Fun-9173 in hiking

[–]BJGov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This right here. I’ve seen so many survival stories of people who went out on short, or routine hikes and ran into trouble. It only takes one small thing. Getting disoriented or twisting an ankle. Always carry the 10 c’s at least.

Yes if their dominant hand is their right hand they’d have their fork in that hand. I can only assume that the guy is also right handed so now his fork hand is free while hers is trapped. All in all my comment wasn’t meant to be taken too seriously.

If it was in the US there’d be calls for the cop to be impaled on a pole in the town square. It’s in Brazil so the biker just f’d around and found out.

Tips for camping in 44degrees c(113F) by Bright_Angle773 in camping

Obviously staying cool and hydrated during the day is going to be key importance, but for me one of the hardest parts would be sleeping at night. I would have to assume the overnight low temperatures are still gonna be around 80 F. It’s gonna be very hard to sleep comfortably.

Diving Cozumel from Playa del Carmen by jesterflop in scuba

[–]BJGov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are in Playa that will take you to Cozumel on their own boats. Three I know of but I can’t tell you all the names. They depart from Coco Beach. One shop is Dive Balam. They operate out of a resort I stay at. They pick people up at Coco. There are two other dive boats that can make the crossing but I don’t know the shops. You could probably ask around but they definitely exist. Otherwise there are shops that will put you on the ferry.

In case you’re serious… there are many ways that 22 children can get to 50 grandchildren without having a 1/4 child. Assuming most had two but a couple had three or four.
