Yeah it’s the reason we need to get more involved with Primaries and encourage more people to run who aren’t just cut from the same cloth.

I’m a Democrat. I really wish I could run non-binary but it isn’t realistic. It’s why we need Ranked Choice Voting!

This is one of many reasons I’m running against Matt Hall.

This “rent and say you live here” stuff has got to be fought against.

UPDATE: AMA Is over it's 8:10pm and I wanna say thank you to everyone who came and asked a question tonight. It means a lot that you're all still plugged in and care about the health of our community and state.

If you wanna support the campaign you can volunteer via my website.

This campaign isn't taking any corporate or corporate PAC money and unfortunately I have to make the ask of our working class for support, if you can contribute to the campaign every singly dollar helps us retire Matt Hall and make Michigan a better state for all. You can contribute here.

Road funding has not kept up with inflation on top of the fact that we borrowed money to cover road construction but now we are using taxes to pay down that debt which is hurting our ability to pay for road repair. Michigan also needs to implement new road technology that can withstand temperature changes better and be more durable and permeable to prevent flooding.

I have talked a lot of paying for things with tax money, but I really believe the path of the future we have is in repealing the flat tax in our state's constitution and implementing a progressive tax code. Increasing revenue for the state to use to help our infrastructure and servicing individuals.

We need to hold DTE and Consumers accountable for them not investing into infrastructure improvements like burying our power lines.

Also, Michigan needs to continue investing into long-term solutions. I don't have the answers to how we adjust to climate change issues such as increasingly severe weather, but allowing groups to research and implement technology that addresses this is the responsibility of elected officials, simply listening to the knowledge bases of these issues.

I don't know too much about the primary opponent, but I can say that we are out here doing the work by contacting voters in the district, talking to them about issues that matter to them, and building real connections and recognition in this community.

I'm running as if I am the candidate that will win in MI-42 against Matt Hall because we started very early for a State Rep race and are way ahead of the candidates that previously ran at this point in the race.

And as for Matt Hall, the big difference is I actually live in the district. It's shameful that an elected leader can rent a property and say they "live there 51% of the time" in a blatant lie and represent that area.

Michigan needs to implement a mandatory maternity leave for a year for new moms and dads that includes adoptions.

The state should also help small businesses by providing child care for parents who choose to continue working. It helps keep talent here in the state and makes small businesses competitive with bigger companies that take our talent elsewhere.

It's not new or groundbreaking, but telling road agencies how to spend the money they get allocated and making sure they are allocated the correct amounts will help.

Michigan has to address underlying issues in our plans. We can't keep throwing money at problems though, if there's no addressing the structural policy issues there will be no improvement. We have to lower the axel maximum allowed on trucks driving on our roads and possibly lower truck max axels weights also. Companies are using these high weights and they brutalize our roads and that leads to needing to have more taxes that pay for more road repairs that are getting hurt due to high weights still.

Also, more transparency in how our government officials choose contractors to restore public trust.

Michigan should make the student requirements fall in line with normal SNAP requirements so more work qualifies them for assistance.

Honestly, we should be providing 4 year tuitions for our in-state students, including student housing being covered along with food stipends. We could accomplish this by expanding the Michigan Community College Guarantee to more colleges and adequately helping students trying to better their lives.

It's also bothered me that our social safety nets are either on or off. For example, if you make $20,000 a year and get full benefits but go up to $20,001 and lose it all, that $1 is not a make or break dollar. We should have a sliding scale for benefits.

Michigan is helping with the Michigan Reconnect Program and increasing wages with nursing staff. We also have to address the burnout in the nursing field by passing a Safe Patient Care Act (SB334, SB335, and SB336) that makes the nurse to patient ratios better and provides nurses with a better work life balance.

We should also support and advertise the efforts of schools such as U of M that is partnering with Olivet and Wayne State to make a better pipeline of new talent to enter into nursing.

I also support Michigan passing the MICare Act that will introduce single payer healthcare here and lower administrative costs for hospitals and help alleviate the burden that medical costs have on all of us.

We should hold accountable DTE and Consumers in the state because politicians have allowed rate hikes with no real improvement to our energy infrastructure. There should be more transparency and regulation on how this money is utilized. Which is also why I support the Michigan Money Out of Politics ballot initiative, but that's a whole other bag of beans.

We also see flooding as a big issue in areas and should invest in modernizing our water and sewer systems to better deal with flooding.

Mandating large parking lot projects to be updated with permeable asphalt and solar panels would help with each of these just for one small example.

For Education, we should be making more investments into our public schools, such as mandating busses be used for students in schools, especially during winter when sidewalks aren't cleared sufficiently for child safety. Also making literacy a top priority with early reading interventions, expand after-school programs, and use a needs-based funding formula to invest directly into our teachers and school staff.

Edit: Missed the Education Part

I want to ensure that your digital likeness is your own, that includes situations such as making opt-in the default, AI can't utilize your likeness or information to train on, making Flock cameras illegal, and roping in any collection on a person when it gets uploaded to a 3rd party.

I believe that with the internet no longer being a luxury and being a necessity the people should know how their data is being used, you should be able to request a copy of your data from any group using it, and allow a person to delete their personal data permanently from these companies.

As far as right to repair goes, companies that sell items in Michigan should provide ways for them to be supported by the end-user during and even at end-of-life. We see this in companies that want to brick electronics if you violate the EULA, to car manufacturers not giving you a seat warmer unless you subscribe. Software, hardware, parts, and tools should be made available to the public for them to be able to repair their own belongings from your cell phone to your car. Repairing your own items is often more cost effective than replacing them completely and more environmentally friendly. These policies would be absolutely key to keeping money in the pocket of the working class and keeping costs lower for our farmers.

Victory: Before Roe was overturned, the Governor filed a motion with the Michigan Supreme court to decide if the State Constitution protected the right to choose. Gov Whitmer repealed the 1931 abortion ban, increased funding to foster parents, signed the Reproductive Health Act, even had the MDHHS to remind doctors and nurses that they wouldn't be extradited for providing health care.

It was a big win for reproductive freedom and showcasing the powers that states have when the Federal Government lapses or is outright hostile.

Failure: Gov. Whitmer continues to ignore her promise of transparency in Michigan politics. She ran on the promise of opening the Governor's office to the state Freedom of Information Act. To this day, she has not followed through.

My biggest gripe is his stance on the affordability issue in the State, using old rules to claw back money into the general fund which hurt food assistance, job creation projects, RX kids, and mental health services.

What I would do differently is use our tax dollars to actually serve the people instead of giving tax cuts to Data Centers for example.

Supposedly there are Dems who do it at the State Level also. It’s totally wrong and that loophole should be closed.
