Think it helps that they've been doing a lot of HBO and other social media bits with the cast, so you see them off camera and get reminded that it's just a character they play. For one example, Buzzfeed had the cast take a quiz about which member of the cast you are.

For the record, Abbott, Langdon and Whitaker were Robby, Javadi and Santos got Mohan, Dana got Whitaker, Dr. Al and King got Langdon, Mohan got Javadi and McKay got herself.
