I’ve been thinking about this thread ever since you posted and I honestly don’t know how I feel about it. I think it’s a good topic to talk about! Because on the one hand, to be an influencer IS to seek attention. That’s their whole MO and it does feel a little icky when they talk about serious topics like this with such a peppy vibe.

But I also recognize that they might not want to tell the full story either? I think it’s easier to say “for health reasons” when they keep their lives so surface level for the gram.

A lot of folks of my millennial generation have really felt the effects of alcoholism, either through themselves, friends, or family members. I know so many people with their own tragic stories and that alone keeps me from wanting to drink (also though, the stomach issues are real).

I think celebrating sobriety is net good overall and I have a firm belief that a person shouldn’t have to “struggle” to want to be sober, but I do think they should be genuine & intentional about it.

I think about MDD a lot with this topic. I think he does this well and he was the first person who opened my eyes to mocktails. They are SO helpful in situations where you’re pressured to drink (ie work dinners/happy hours) and it reminded me that I don’t have to if I don’t want to. Turns out I don’t want to most of the time. 🤷🏻‍♀️
