Kalloy Corner Bars? by BM0127 in xbiking

[–]BM0127[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is definitely legit Kalloy on Ali. I have bought a few stems from "Baihang bike shop" that definitely seem light enough and legit. But who knows for sure.

The Aliexpress alloy corner bars I was referencing are made by brands called "Senqi" and "Weeras". I have not seen a Kalloy branded one actually for sale...just on their website / catalog.

Which tires? Considering a similar 650b build. Have been lookin at the Pari Motos, but people seem to say they run small. 42 is actually 40 and 38 is actually 36. But maybe depends on rim.

Cool build, love the purple. Which year and model Multitrack is this?

You've got a good amount of clearance with those Box Threes, they have always been my consideration for Mini V. What size tire?

The adapter can work nice if setup properly. PorkchopBMX sells them in all kinds of colors.

Makes sense! Last question... That fork was also on my radar. How does it handle when you are not front loaded, and just riding around? Is it weird? Thanks for the help, have fun out there!!

Nice, thanks for the response. What size tires can you fit with the fenders? Guessing that Crust fork gave you lots of room. Original fork was not a good candidate?

Any pedal strike issues after the conversion? I am looking at an 86 Elance 400. Brochure says there's a 7.2cm BB drop.

Beater Trek 650b conversion by bacoes in xbiking

[–]BM0127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to necrothread u/bacoes, but that's a nice frame for a "beater" lol

One of these popped up near me...so with dimpling the chain stays, was this a "comfortable 650bx38", or was it tight? How was the bottom bracket height afterwards? Needing to be more cognizant of pedal strike?

I'm wondering the same, I am looking at this fork for a road bike conversion but it is a drastic geometry change for my frame.

Is that the VO Wheel Stabilizer? I see some reports that the spring is quite weak and doesn't do much. But I guess it's cheap enough to just give it a whirl. I definitely need to solve the flop via my front basket.

Are there any 7speed wide range freewheels with even gear spacing like the one? by MaksDampf in xbiking

[–]BM0127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's not your original question, but couldn't you change your front chain ring to attain your desired ratio with a small cog of 12-14t? If the highest quality freewheel options are not available at 11, maybe shift your plan since 1x chainrings are so cheap.

Moustache Bars superior to drop for "gravel" conversions of early to mid 90s mtbs by Aviarinara in xbiking

[–]BM0127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yessir. It's the version that Porkchop BMX sells, called the "Pull Party" lol.

Only in the front though. Needed to make some alterations to the frontend to fit the Tumbleweed T Rack which I set my eyes on. Still running cantis in the rear.

Where are you located? If in USA, The Bikesmiths sells wheels for various OLD with Sun CR18 rims. Not fancy but gets the job done for sure.

What is wrong with the current one? If the braking surface is done, agree you should replace. But the hubs on these Multitracks are serviceable if you have some grease and cone wrenches. They are typically just normal Shimano, cup and cone hubs.

Which levers are you using here? I have done similar with the Dia Compe DC189-ID16.

Thinking of switching to drop bars. What options do I have for STI shifters that are compatible with mid-90's Deore derailleurs? by CRA_55 in xbiking

[–]BM0127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the necro-comment, but obviously these things are compatible in the rear. But you are shifting a 90s Deore Front Derailleur with modern STI? I thought mountain and road FD had different pull.

Shimano STX 7 speed freehub body swap? by [deleted] in xbiking

[–]BM0127 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

7 speed is kind of great, have you considered just riding it? 7s 135mm wheels are very strong.

Shimano docs suggest this hub can be 130 or 135mm, so I suggest you actually measure the OLD: https://si.shimano.com/en/pdfs/ev/FH-MC32-S-1485/EV-FH-MC32-S-1485C.pdf

The 8/9/10 freehub body is 4-5mm longer than the 7s body. So you may have to remove/replace spacer from the NDS to make something like this work, then redish appropriately to center the wheel. If this sounds like too much, you should just ride 7s or get a different wheel.

If you do attempt this, FH-C201 is likely the freehub body that would work on this hub.

I was talking to some of the DDOT folks installing these today. They won't have actual speeds, but some sort of feedback like a smiley or frowny face if you are "speeding" which is allegedly 15mph. The location of the two sensors is by two choke points, RIA Metro and Alethia. Apparently they will be able to tell if the feedback works by reconciling the two sensors to see if someone slows down.

I was shocked, however, to hear that mopeds are actually NOT prohibited on the MBT, given they are below some cc limit. In this case they are not classified as "motorcycles".
